Endgame is just a monster album and I would say the most consistent. I’ve always thought Dave Mustaine as principal songwriter was guilty of thinking everything he writes is fantastic. Let’s just say the riff quality control machine wasn’t always working properly over the years
Megadeth's peace sells and Slayer's South of heaven introduced me to thrash. Listening to those albums was probably one of the best decisions I ever made!
Although I discovered Megadeth later on, my introduction to thrash was Metallica’s “Master of Puppets” and Slayer’s “South of Heaven” The first Megadeth album I heard was “Countdown to Extinction” then it was “Cryptic Writings” after that.
My favorite Megadeth is Peace Sells. I agree that Dixon's cover is out of the place but the rest songs are amazing thrash riff madness. Generally my top 5: 1. Peace Sells 2. Rust In Peace 3. So Far, So Good... So What 4. Killing Is My Business 5. Youthanasia
Rust is peace is my favourite album of any genre of all time. Every single note from start to finish enthralls me. I've listened to it probably a thousand times and it always sounds as good as the first time I heard it.
@@underflo43tky I personally never had problems with the production, and while I agree that it is vastly underrated, I don't think anything surpasses the absolute masterpiece that is Rust in Peace
@@coreygendreau7219 actually i lost interest after peace sells. ive never listened to RIP. i may get around to it though. i just like when a band is still working its way up. saw the killing is my biz tour. i was into all that music then.
@@underflo43tky thats so sick i wish i was around for any of the classic albums… but never having heard rust in peace… mind blown… easily the best thrash record ever made in my opinion nothing even comes close
So Far, So Good... So What!? was my first Megadeth album, and I love it so much to this day. Even though Rust In Piece, Peace Sells and even Countdown To Extinction exist, So Far, So Good is always on the top of my ranking \m/
@@thomasangelripper how about Destruction ? The talented Mr. Shifringer on guitar? He is an absolute riffmaster....also Living death or Vendetta ! Assasin ? Tankard ? Sodom, kreator ? By the way I also loved Tyrant back in the day also early Grave digger (the first two albums were classics) first two Running Wild ! Iron angel also the first two albums . Cutty shark ? Helloween walls of Jericho a classic ! Death row ? I used to live and die for kraut-metal ! They were the absolute best music, the soundtrack of my adolescents!
"Rank Em All" for Metallica, and "Ranking is my business" for Megadeth, haha I like the theme I'm seeing so far. When you do Exodus maybe it will be "Bonded by Ranking", or "Ranking is Imminent".... Just don't let it be a "Ranking Disaster" 🤣
@@kevinmitchell4018 I agree with you, their first album is a masterpiece all the way through. Master of Reality is overrated to me. If you get rid of the useless filler tracks (let’s be real, who plays Master of Reality excited to hear Embryo, Orchid, and Solitude?), it’s essentially a 5 song long album. All great songs but just not enough content.
One of my favourite bands of all time! 1. Youthanasia 2. Peace Sells… But Who’s Buying? 3. Rust in Peace 4. Countdown to Extinction 5. Dystopia 6. Endgame 7. Cryptic Writings 8. Killing is My Business… And Business is Good! 9. The System Has Failed 10. So Far, So Good… So What! 11. United Abominations 12. Risk 13. Th1rt3en 14. Super Collider 15. The World Needs a Hero
It's refreshing to see such a concise, informative, and honest ranking of a band's catalogue. While such lists are very subjective, you have succeeded in a "common sense" approach to tackling the task without any arrogance. I would like to see more of these from videos from you.
Thank you Sir, I've listened to Megadeth since the nineties so I'm pretty familiar with their stuff and I like some and other albums I will probably never go back to. :) I'll definitely do more rank 'em all videos soon. Cheers!
There are very few songs from both albums I dislike. For Peace Sells it would be “I Ain’t Superstitious” for Rust in Peace I don’t like “Dawn Patrol” and “My Creation”
Awesome, I have only seen them once but I live in the middle of nowhere. :) Great band but the live performance wasn't the best when I saw them, hopefully you'll have an even better time. Cheers!
It's a surprise to see someone giving Dystopia such a good place. Most of the time, other reviewers give this album a lower place and it's a shame since it has a lot of nice songs that, aren't purely thrash, but a mix between modern thrash and heavy metal. Fatal Illusion is easily my favorite and the thrashiest song of the album. Dystopia is often considered as the spiritual successor of Hangar 18 and Return to Hangar. Besides, Conquer or Die is an instrumental that gets into the level of Into The Lungs of Hell, Kiko really killed it there.
@@KimoFest Igual, es mi banda favorita, pero igual es medio XD que suelo encontrar un comentario tuyo en cada vídeo que veo, eres un hombre de cultura ahr
@@vaggelis6349 Countdown had Ashes In Your Mouth (best song by far), Skin O My Teeth & High Speed Dirt. The Black Album had Holier Than Though, Through The Never & Struggle Within. Granted, Countdown's other songs mostly have at least1 thrashy riff. But, just like Metallica, they ditched most of the thrash from the last album IMMEDIATELY on their 2nd album in the 90's. Just compare the demo of the title track to the album version.. :(
I agree almost in everything, but Youthanasia should be higher, great 90s heavy metal album, less fillers than CtE for my taste and top-notch production
@@RuthlessMetalYT I disagree, at least I think both albums best songs are tied, and more or less except a tout le monde, the ones in CtE are more mainstream, but it's just a matter of taste I guess
Peace sells is my number one. It was the first Megadeth album I bought early in 1987. Wake Up Dead is one of the heaviest & brilliant thrash songs ever. It's just as heavy as Slayer but in a different way. And let's not forget the pummelling repetitive ending to Black Friday...awesome.
@@RuthlessMetalYT Same! I started listening to them in 1993 when I was 12 after hearing Countdown to Extinction. So your list is exactly how I would have made mine. I have actually been seeing other lists ranking Risk pretty high, which has been weird to say the least! lol Keep up the great vids!
I have always liked Cryptic Writings a lot. Trust, a secret place, she-wolf, vortex and fff are all great songs but I enjoy the whole album. But if you expect to hear Thrash metal then I get if you don't dig the album.
@@RuthlessMetalYT FFF is also quite metal, the verse is straight up Motorbreath haha! But yeah not the most metal album out there but I don't really care. I think it's cool that Mustaine can write good songs in many genres and I think he is one of the few people that has done that successfully (although risk sucks ass)
I'm happy to see Killing Is My Business get such a high rank. It's probably my favorite Megadeth album, and one of my favorite albums ever. It's not as technical and complex as Rust In Peace, but that mixture of speed/thrash metal and jazzy elements, especially with the unique personal playstyle quirks of Chris and Gar, and on top of that some interesting, sometimes unorthodox and honestly difficult compositions due to the sheer speed and insane shenanigans on some of those riffs... it really hits the spot for me. To this day I've never, _ever_ heard anything quite like it before or after. Yes, I'm a sucker for thrash and speed metal with unusual elements. Something more original and charming that your average super technical hyper perfect records we get nowadays.
I have to say I think this is a very fair and correct analysis of Megadeth's work to date. I might have swapped 'So Far...' with 'Countdown...' if compiling myself but that's as tiny and dare we say inconsequential as my changes would have got. Great list!
1. Rust In Peace 2. Peace Sells 3. Killing Is My Business 4. So Far So Good 5. Endgame 6. Dystopia Megadeth is definitely better as a thrash band imo but CTE and Youthanasia are still pretty solid
Yeah, especially on the Peace Sells and SFSGSW albums. My Last Words is one of my favorite examples of Dave's singing, that song is sick.. and so is Good Mourning/Black Friday, and also 502!
@@danielalmeida7382 Its like his worst singing ever, i agree. Somehow TSHF is my Favorite Megadeth Album, despite its not that good objektive. Maybe because it helped me thru bad Times idk.
If someone asked me what the epitome of Thrash metal is I would undoubtedly say that Rust in Peace is it. It's a masterpiece of pure unfiltered thrash, and represents the genre better than many other albums. That and Agent Orange are for me what thrash metal really is. As for the rest of the top, I think it's pretty good, but I would have a different top 2-3 1. Rust in Peace 2. Killing is my Business 3. SFSGSW 4. Peace Sells Still man this was a great video, keep it up! Will you do a top 25 death metal albums? that would be awesome!
I hadn't even heard of a lot of these albums. ;) I think I'd give Killing Is My Business an edge at #2, because I love the rawness of it and it's such an excellent debut album.
Nice I knew you were gonna do this next for some reason 😂 I’ll give my top 5 Megadeth albums on here: 1. Peace Sells, But Who’s Buying 2. Rust in Peace 3. Killing is my Business, and Business is Good 4. So Far, So Good, So What 5. Countdown to Extinction
I don't know exactly why, but Megadeth is really the only band that I actually find myself visiting their 90s albums as as much as their 80s output. I think getting into Youthanasia and Countdown to Extinction so early on in my journey helped me appreciate Cryptic Writings much more since I was trying to get as many Megadeth albums as soon as I could when I was a teenager. I tend to hold Hidden Treasures in high regard as a timestamp of the 1991-1995 Megadeth period and frequently enjoy the track "Go to Hell".
cryptic writings is a pop album though. countdown and youthanasia has their moments, but they can't compare to their eighties albums. It's never a good thing when bands slow down to fit in with the times.
RIP definitely the best. The Marty addition was right time, right place. I love these lists as they also broach the subject of when the bands transitioned to mainstream, which we all selfishly wished nothing was recorder after 1990! Not Deth’s fault, but I am old enough to remember when the MTV News segment used the opening bass line of Peace Sells as their intro music and we Metalheads hated them for it. If you are too young I’m sure you can find a clip somewhere.
Except for Risk, the newer albums always have some songs that i like, eventhough they are more weaker compared to earlier albums. The World Needs A Hero has Return To Hangar, Cryptic Writing has She Wolf, FFF and The Disintegrators and Dread And The Fugitive Mind and Thirteen has Sudden Death.
I remember when Endgame came out I was actually pretty surprised. It was so thrashy I couldn't believe it compared to the albums before. A lot of bops in that album probably my most favorite from the NEW Megadeth.
Nice ranking. I already knew what the N.1 would be. United Abominations is one of their best releases imo. Sleepwalker is a sick thrash track. Well done brother 🤘.
So I won't be influenced my rankings before listening: 15. "Risk" 14. "The World Needs a Hero" 13. "Super Collider" 12. "Thirteen" 11. "Endgame" 10. "Killing is my Business" 9. "Cryptic Writings" 8. "The System has Failed" 7. "Dystopia" 6. "So Far, So Good... So What" 5. "United Abominations" 4. "Youthanasia" 3. "Countdown to Extinction" 2. "Pease Sells.. but Whos Buying" 1. "Rust in Peace" My top 5 and bottom 3 have been set in stone for a while. Besides those that I could mix and match any of the middle album ranks depending on how I feel any given day.
Wow, our ranking is pretty similar! I've never been the biggest Megadeth fan (I'm one of those people that can't take too much of Mustaime's vocals at a time). I've honestly never given Endgame much thought so I don't know where I would rank it, but Dystopia was a huge surprise to me and I'd probably put it where you put Endgame. Again, that's not knowing where Endgame would place, but apart from that, I think our lists are more or less identical.
I just re-listened to megadeth's discography to prepare myself for the new album. Here's my ranking now and I'll include the new album when it comes out. Also this list is controversial AF so beware 1. Rust in Peace (1990) 2. Peace Sells (1986) 3. So Far So Good So What (1988) 4. Youthanasia (1994) 5. The System Has Failed (2004) 6. Dystopia (2016) 7. Countdown to Extinction (1992) 8. Endgame (2009) 9. United Abominations (2007) 10. Th1rt3en (2011) 11. The World Needs A Hero (2001) 12. Super Collider (2013) 13. Risk (1999) 14. Cryptic Writings (1997) 15. Killing is my Business (1985)
@@RuthlessMetalYT To me I don’t think it’s horrible but I find it to be really sloppy and disorganized. Some melodies and songwriting moments don’t make sense to me. But I do love songs like rattle head and chosen ones. I just would rather listen to any other album that feels well produced and rehearsed
1. Rust In Peace 2. Peace Sells But Who's Buying 3. Countdown to Extinction 4. Endgame 5. Cryptic Writings 6. Killing Is My Business... and Business Is Good 7. Youthanasia 8. So Far So Good... So What! 9. United Abominations 10. Hidden Treasures 11. The System Has Failed 12. Dystopia 13. The World Needs a Hero 14. Thirteen 15. Risk 16. Super Collider
My personal ranking from worst to best. For some reason I could never get into the Peace Sells album as much as everyone else. The list is based on which album I like the most songs on, not what "sounds more like Megadeth". However most of them share the same spot. Supercollider, Thirteen, Risk, The World Needs A Hero So Far, So Good, So What, Dystopia, (Hidden Treasures), Peace Sells... The System has Failed, Youthanasia, Cryptic Writings United Abominations, Killing is My Business..., Endgame Countdown to Extinction, Rust in Peace
I agree with some of this, and disagree with other parts. I rather like Cryptic Writings - Use The Man in particular I absolutely love. So I would put this album several steps higher. I would also swap the positions of So Far, So Good, So What and Killing Is My Business... And Business Is Good. Yes, the latter is a metal classic, but the poor production really hurts the overall listening experience. And there isn't a bad track on the former. Into the Lungs of Hell, 502, Mary Jane, Set the World Afire, Hook In Mouth. Hey, I even really like their cover of Anarchy In the UK. This is the album that got me interested in Megadeth in the first place. But obviously we all have different preferences.
yeah, the production is a bit rough on killing is my business, but the songs are far better than those on so far so good so what. That is true, cheers!
I have to agree with Rust In Peace as well. It's the album I always measure other albums by. And yes I do like Countdown a lot as well, for a more commercial effort I felt it still had a nice overall sound to it. Youthanasia was the first album I never cared much about. Overall I have to agree on most of the list.
We were almost spot on the same but I would've ranked Cryptic Writings a little higher and United Abominations a little lower. Still, a great vid. Cheers!
I took a "risk" buying "Cryptic Writing" off a thrift shop CD rack. Yeah... the first two tracks are very skippable to the point where I cringe thinking about that experience. In fact, I daresay that many might like the album a lot more if it were not for the first few tracks. I often think that the "Mastermind" reminds me a lot of "Cult of Personality" riff which appears in the late 80s.
Peace sells is my first megadeth album. Headbangers ball playing peace sells, wake up dead and anarchy in the UK. This is what metal is and should always be!
Speaking of Megadeth, what's your opinion on the new bassist after David Ellefson left? (Also, great video, as always, looking forward to Slayer's one next!)
I don't know, he'll probably recruit some new guy from some band that they have perhaps toured with or done some gigs with, it's usually how it happens I guess. I don't expect no returning old members or Jason Newsted or anything. Cheers!
1- Peace Sells (I never saw any problem with I ain't Superstitious, I think is one of the best songs on the album, Poland solos are perfect) 2- So Far, So Good... So What! (The rawness of the album its great, the lineup is also underrated af, Jeff solos are very memorable and Chuck drums are heavy and direct, the remastered version sucks) 3- Youthanasia ( Great songs, great production and the band chemistry was on the top) 4- Rust in Peace ( I love this album but I got a little bit tired of it. But what can I say about Rust in Peace? Hangar 18 was the first Megadeth song I've heard and Polaris its underrated af, again the remastered version sucks, just the bonus tracks that are cool) 5- Endgame ( The album its great, Shawn its really good on it and Broderick's solos are from another world, 44 minutes and the title track are my favorites, I also hate "The Hardest Part of Letting Go".) Did you think in make a video of your favorite lineups of bands, Megadeth, Sepultura, Exodus...?

Spot on Ruthless Metal! My order is a little different than yours, but what you said was so true! Mustaine fanboys are probably crying because they claim Megadeth is pure thrash and never sold out! I guess they forgot about Risk and Cryptic Writings! My order. 1. So Far, So Good...So What! 2. Peace Sells But Who's Buying? 3. Rust In Peace 4. Killing Is My Business...And Business Is Good 5. United Abominations 6. Youthanasia 7. Countdown To Extinction 8. End Game The rest of the albums do nothing for me. They have some good songs but overall they are mediocre or bad albums.
I would consider myself a “Mustaine fanboy.” There’s no arguing Risk and cryptic writings are not thrash. Dave admits it himself in his autobiography. But as a musician myself I can truly appreciate his attempt to try something new. I actually like a lot of songs on both of those albums even though their not in lone with the rest of Megadeth albums.
I just discovered your last channel last week and your content is just great! Anyway, Megadeth is my co-favourite band and man, you are absolutely spot on! The top 8 and bottom 3 are exactly the ones I'd choose as well. Even the top 3... (although Peace Sells will forever be my favourite) Looking forward to watching all your videos in the coming days!
Cryptic Writings is criminally underrated, it was everything that Metallica tried to accomplish with LOAD and RELOAD, but a hundred times better. I can spin that album from front to back every time.
Bro I agree, you hit the nail right on the head! Literally it is what Metallica tried to do with Load and Reload. While there are some good songs on those albums, Cryptic Writings was consistent from start to finish. Mastermind, FFF, Use the Man, The Disintegrators, Trust, She-Wolf. All very great tracks imo! Respect \m/
I recently watched a Megadeth discagraphy some other guy did, it it was right after you're Metalicca ranking video. His list was wildly different, just goes to show there's alot of room for interpretation here. That said great video, love the series, stay the course.
So far, So good... So what! and Rust In Peace are by far the two best megadeth records in my opinion. Every song on those two records in my opinion is beyond remarcable exept the Sex Pistols cover.
Sfsgsw fails in a lot compared to the previous peace sells. It changes the pseudosatanic lyrics for drugs and shit proper to glam rock bands not metal. It has ballads and punk covers. I always felt a bon jovi vibe around this album. Jeff was a guitar savant but neither his style or influence was thrash metal. What track can one argue that is better than peace sells, wake up dead or the conjuring?
Great job on the Megadeth by the way looks like I can't become a member because I don't have a credit card but I'll be your unofficial supporter so no matter what dude you'll always have a a fan
I could say that I love Rust In Peace too, because I love Holy Wars and Hangar 18, from this album, and from Mustaine's best solos, but my favourite song is actually Symphony Of Destruction, from Countdown To Extinction... 😅🤘🤘
Definitely agree with your first and last choices. I think cuz of lyrics, the albums before Risk are my favs. The albums after Risk keep getting better and better, to where Dystopia is up there with their pre-Risk stuff…but still not as good. But don’t ask me how to rank per-Risk other than Rust In Peace is their best album!
@@benjaminmaughan2957 nah, it's a great album, not a great trash album, because just two song have riffs from that type, criptyc Writings is hated exactly for that, being more slow and simple, even with that you can hear the full album without getting bored, and the three heavy tracks are pretty good if you ask me
