The whole band is playing so tight here… Nick’s drumming keeps it all together… everyone is so technically precise… and Marty’s solo blows my mind. It’s so clean and clear almost like the studio version. Ripping song!
As a drummer I can tell you Nick Menza is working overtime on this one. It may not sound like it but there is great technique and timing here. Holy Wars is my favourite Megadeth song but the technique of Nick puts this very high on the list.
His grandad/father (either one. Not sure) played in buddy rich's band. I think Menza even got a lesson or two from buddy. Read it in an article way back
No nicks dad played the 🎷 and played with the likes of buddy rich and when nick was young he would of mingled with all of the greats including buddy rich
im a drummer too. the first part is a little tricky with getting right timing but every other part is easy. it is really hard keeping time the entire song though, i get what you mean. for the end solo, you just start off kind of like you are playing take no prisoners and then just go crazy
People are gonna disagree, but personally, this is, and will always be, the greatest megadeth song ever. Just like metallicas orion, and slayers hell awaits, it just cant get any better to me. The fucking best right here, and countdown isnt even my favorite megadeth album (RIP is, and yes its also my favorite, and if i could somehow fit ashes into that album, it would be 10000% perfect)
I think it is a great example of how great megadeth is. It is really hard to say what is the "best" megadeth song. But if I were to play some songs for new friends this would be one of the first five.
There are tons of megadeth songs that can be better than Ashes in your mouth..Ofc this is one of my favourites..but some of the songs that are better than this are Tornado of souls,My Last Words,Set the World Afire (My personal Favourite)..Ofc its jst my opinion..so no disrespect :)
It's quintessential Megadeth, I give you that. I never think of songs in terms of "best" songs. It just depends on my mood. I have a few favorites though : ashes, holy wars, angry again & tornado.
Glad im not alone in this, actually I just can't get over of how they don't pick this over holy wars to close their sets. The structure of the song is just perfect, and the drum solo at the end lets any drummer in megadeth, even if they are set in "Robot mode" to go wild for that last bit of the show to say goodbye to the fans for the night with a nice punch to the face.
The whole song kicks ass but that guitar harmony at 3:34 gives me goosebumps every time. So glad I got to see them on the Countdown tour with STP at Palmer Auditorium in Davenport, Iowa.
Saw the same tour in Battle Creek MI. So good. I think I have always had a deep seated resentment for STP since then because all my friends and even the local news claimed that STP blew Megadeth away with their show.... Of course that was horse shit. Great concert, great lineup, RIP Menza man... By far my favorite drummer.
He was mad as hell when they recorded 'So Far So Good so what' and the result is an amazing group of tracks on that album. Pissed off and drugged up Dave made for an excellent combination.
@@andrewhopko7130 I agree, this is Megadeth for me. And together with Judas Priest they're the best metal band ever. Sepultura in their prime come after, in my view.
This is the most underrated song in Metal.. This and Tornado of souls are the greatest songs from Megadeth.. Marty's solos are just out of this world..
MAN! This lineup was tight! Menza, an absolute machine! That solo from Marty over those changes is so perfect. The energy of this performance stands at the absolute top!
I know! This song is one of the key Megadeth tunes, in my book. I also really like how it strikes just the right balance between being a sort of light-hearted and catchy tune (in all aspects) with being heavy and "ugly" (the syncopated riffs and all the passing tones - signature Megadeth stuff)
#MegadethFuckRules
People have round shoulders from fairing heavy loads And the soldiers liberate them, laying mines along their roads Sorrow paid for valor is too much to recall Of the countless corpses piled up along the wailing wall Melting down all metals, turning plows and shears to swords Shun words of the Bible, we need implements of war Chalklines and red puddles of those who have been slain Destiny, that crooked schemer, says the dead shall rise again Where do we go from here? And should we really care? The end is finally here God have mercy Now we've rewritten history The one thing we've found out Sweet taste of vindication It turns to ashes in your mouth Where do we go from here? And should we really care? The end is finally here God have mercy If you're fighting to live It's okay to die The answer to your question is Welcome to tomorrow Where do we go from here? God have mercy Where do we go from here? And should we really care? The end is finally here God have mercy Where do we go from here? And should we really care? The end is finally here God have mercy Mercy, mercy, mercy, mercy
Probably my fav Megadeth song. I saw them last week in Windsor and was hoping they'd play this song, but no such luck. Timmo was filling in damn well for Kiko, man he can play. Megadeth always has killers on lead duty.
Why didn't they make more riffs with odd time patterns. That riff is one of the most brutal riffs they've ever put out, and they prove they can play more than just 4/4 on all of their songs. They're absolutely my favorite band within any genre of metal, but after having listened a lot to the new album from Haken, I became bit disappointed that the big names in metal almost completely forego using any odd time signatures for their songs. It's like my mind has been rewired, and now I can't see things like I did before
