Man! Totally underrated album and Dave’s triumph over adversity and the return of Megadeth which is going stronger than ever! Can’t exit to see em next year with Lamb of God!
Youthanasia and Cryptic Writtings is the peak of dave's voice. Even live he was hitting crazy notes and sounding well on almost every live performance.
Countdown To Extinction talks against predatory hunting of wild animals, a subject that, although the song was written ins the 90s, is still current today. We're still destroying our own planet and it's living creatures, mostly for no reason whatsoever. Dave always knew how to criticize with music.
Marty's story behind Countdown to Extinction: The girl who did the spoken part in the middle is a friend of mine named Jun. She worked at a sushi bar near the studio so we asked her to come and record with us. She is a cool chick and I still keep in touch with her. This song won us the Genesis award, given out by an animal activist group. At the star-studded Hollywood awards ceremony. Ellefson and I tried hard to contain our laughter as these TV and movie stars got up on stage and anthropomorphosised in their acceptance speeches. "I'd like to thank so-and-so, so-and-so, so-and-so, but most importantly of all, Fluffy and Fido, for their constant inspiration, blah, blah, blah...
Absolutely love the editing in this LOL. Megadeth's original guitarist Chris Poland did all of the studio work for system has failed.. in their entire catalog, my least favorite album was risk, cryptic writings was second. Everything else was spot-on. But those two that I dislike have great tracks on them as well. And that's just my own personal opinion, we are all different👍 countdown is an amazing song. He calls out all the "hunters" that pay good money to enter large cages to shoot animals. There's no sport in that. The other really impactful song on that album is foreclosure of a dream. That song had a lot to say about American Life. Youthanasia is a very very good album! Very different, but very good
Cryptic Writings to me is not even close to the weakest Megadeth album. One of the softest sure, but not the weakest. There is not a single bad song on the album. It's one of my top 3 albums of Megadeth
Cryptic writings is one of my fave albums haha but I absolutely love the other Megadeth albums too haha, I think it's massively under appreciated that said countdown to extinction is one of my favourite songs ever written though, it's message is just so good, its like a metal David Attenborough rant. Powerful. 🤘
I love the Cryptic Writings album. The guitar tone was veering towards hard rock, which is why some thought it was weak. But the songwriting is exceptional as always.
In 2013 they on the ocassion of Countdowns 25th anniversary, recorded a live performance of the entire album from beginning to end. Bookended by a few others in Panoma California. Well worth the listen. Countdown was #2 on the charts. Only behind Metallica's black album.
3 killer tracks here. Love the groove of Mastermind, a personal favorite in Countdown, so beautiful, and the anxious melancholia of Tears in a Vial. Nice trifecta. 3 I'd like you to do from Youthanasia are Train Of Consequences, Victory and Reckoning Day. Three tracks that all kick ass... like most of their songs... you know? Peace!
Man you have to react to "Set The World A Fire". I'm telling you. If you want reac to "Into The Lungs Of Hell" because it''s an "Intro" to "Set the world afire". They blend together into one. Cheers
Yea try youthanaisa if you really want to hear Dave sing awesome alubm. Awesome reaction as always brother. It's impossible for Dave to make a bad song ain't heard one yet, I been a fan since 1984. Addicted to chaos" try that song or anything off youth the whole album is fire 🔥🔥🔥
Youthanasia - You got to listen to Killing Road!! , Actually you did do a song off that album I think you listen to Victory, another good song is Blood of Heroes on that album , if you want to listen to more of System has failed listen to Truth Be Told , A great one , nice work !
Now that you've heard tears in a vial you need to hear the hardest part of letting go... Sealed with a kiss off of engame (2009). I think it goes along great with this song. Youthenasia is a great album to react to. I'm in! It has Victory on it!!!
so many great songs byt this band. I kinda love each albums they all have a couple of good songs that you need to hear if you are a Megadeth fan. You can't go wrong with listening to a best of Megadeth playlist for 3 hours straight without questionning your choice. Heck, I got tickets for a Megadeth show, don't care if Dave can't sing anymore, this is gonna be the shit (although I still don't know if the show will happen 'cause of the virus).
My man you must hold the most MegaDeth reactions... bada$$!! You are right it’s geared more towards commercialization but still decent. Ready to react to Death. Symbolic Must read the lyrics as they are deep.
I have to agree with the others! Hook in mouth! Great great song. It was in response to Tipper Gore in the pmrc, that's when they started prohibiting sales of albums to minors if there were swear words etcetera. That's what the songs about
Congrats, you found a gem! I liked a lot of songs off this album, but this is the banger. Great reaction, try "Supernova Goes Pop" by Powerman 5000 next. :)
I tried like hell to post a meme to you yesterday LOL I guess it's not possible. It said, if Dave was still in Metallica. In the picture was a redheaded Yuppie guy LOL. Funny as hell.
I love this, but there are some very underrated music videos they have. Alot are songs you already know, but I just wanna see you headbang to the music videos.
Countdown To Extinction was the album that got me into Megadeth mainly because of Sweating Bullets. I had heard Symphony Of Destruction but because it was played all the time on the radio several years ago I just got bored of that song. I love everything Megadeth have done so far, including a few songs off of Risk, and I can't wait for another album to come out. I'm also a really big fan of Metallica.
Megadeth is great! Thank you! I would like to suggest some reactions. From Tarja Turunen's solo career, please, react to "underneath", the studio version (it's one of the most beautiful rock synphonic ballads I've ever heard), and "Supremacy", live version recorded in Milan (it's really amazing). From Nightwith with Tarja, the music video of "Bless the child" is wonderful. It deserves a reaction too. Thank you very much!
Great job. I really (you could easily add 3-4 more) like how you react like I would at the same places in a song that I would. Of course, not all times are a perfect match which is equally enjoyable. I request you do Youthanasia next. To whet your appetite, it is my opinion that Youthanasia is a great choice to do a full album review. I would liken it to Rust in Peace but with a more medium pace and more commercial (the good aspects) approach. Thank you for reminding me how good Tears in a Vial was. Almost ended without mentioning this,....there's a making of Youthanasia video,...so old school you can only get it on VHS , although I think it still exists on youtube. It's called Evolver.
If you're gonna react to stuff from Youthanasia I'd recommend Reckoning Day, Family Tree and Addicted to Chaos. Lots of great tunes on this under-appreciated album but these are just a jumping off point. Just subscribed but been watching your channel for awhile now...love your reactions, keep up the good work, bud!
Megadeth is amazing ! And everybody who says something else is stupid ...If you wanna do a Full Album Reaction I recommend Nevermores This Godless Endeavor.... it’s far off a masterpiece the same with Conquering Dystopia (the Full Album) These Albums are Perfect and 10/10. believe ne you really miss out 😅😁
as an old school hardcore/metal guy I hated both Youthanasia and Cryptic Writings when they came out, but I have come around on both of those. There are indeed lame tracks on both records but overall I like them. Countdown to Extinction I loved from day one. That to me was Megadeth following Metallica's black album formula of stripped down, simpler arrangements, but they did it much better. Countdown OWNS the black album IMO
In Retrospective cryptic writings is a great Album... just Back than even youthanasia was a big led down to the thrash metal guys Who just didnt expect any never liked this slight Musical change... so... said it before and say it again, theres no bad megadeth Album once you recognize em as the metal Band they are. You want thrash? Check Testament... so something for everyone
That Countdown version is from the Remastered set from 2004. those remasters are really hit and miss.. personally I think the original Countdown to Extinction album release had a far better mix. The remastered ones put Dave's voice floating above all else... Dave's not Ronnie James Dio.. i don't need to hear his voice singled out. it should be mixed more evenly with the band. But hey... at least on that one they didn't just lose the old vocal tracks and rerecord em over a decade later like with Rust in Peace.
@@TheAdventuresofTNT well, I dunno if you necessarily need to do em again... the song is basically the same. It's just that the mix has changed. Might be worth just checking out the old mix to compare it.. then decide if it's worth reviewing the original mix next time you do a megadeth track from before '04. The only ones where it's a night and day difference are those couple tracks on Rust in Peace where they had to redo the vocals
Mastermind is off the original. I have the 2004 remastered version which has a much more conventional mix. This is the first time I have heard the original... I'm not sure which one I like more - they are more different than you normally expect from a remaster
Hey T, hope you guys are well. When are you going to introduce Tasha to Megadeth so she could compare them to Metallica? Also, two recommendations from Megadeth: Use the Man and Set the World Afire ( Live version from That One Night in Argentina).
The solo guitarist, one of them anyway, for the system has failed is Chris Poland. From the first two Megadeth albums. He was hired to be a studio guitarist for that album. And he got ripped off again LOL oh Dave SMH
With Megadeth you've gotta talk about the lyrics, man. I almost threw a dislike your way after you ignored Mastermind's lyrics. The lyrics are the point of the song, in my opinion. So artistically and truthfully written sci-fi shit. KNEEEEELLLL TO THE PROCESSORR
Like the fact you have listened to so many bands that other reactors haven't but wtf is wrong with people? Do they draw random songs out of a hat as suggestions? Smh. Megadeth (Youthanasia): Addicted To Chaos, A Tout le Monde, I Thought I Knew It All
