Lead singer is Dave Mustaine. "Dave Mustaine directly influenced three of the big four Thrash Metal bands, if there is no Dave Mustaine there is no Thrash Metal." - Scott Ian, Anthrax. Dave was originally in Metallica and basically gave them their sound. After being fired he created Megadeth of which Kerry King of Slayer was in for a time before going back to Slayer.

It's more than likely I'm just getting old...past the point where God stops giving you gifts, and starts taking em away (yeah, that sounds morbid, but it's just a part of life that all of us will have to go through). But, we've just lost way too many iconic and legendary artists and bands in recent years...it feels like that anyway. Metallica DID rub a lot of salt in the wound by firing Dave right before their initial LP release because he really DID write most of the stuff that's on "Kill em All." Dave has said before that it infuriated him to watch Metallica take off on their meteoric rise in popularity. Oh well...what's done is done.

At this point I can't really blame them. It was easier in the past when all you had to go by was whatever your local record store had or a friend who could make a tape for you. Now with so many options and literally thousands of metal bands since (in something like 27 different metal subgenres) it's so easy to get lost and never even get to the O.G. bands.

Dave Mustaine is one of the most influential metal guitarists ever, and I'd even go as far as saying musician as a whole, period. Allegedly, he never liked the other guy playing guitar (Al Pitrelli) being in Megadeth because he is a professional musician that actually studied music charts to learn songs lol. Al has played with the Trans-Siberian Orchestra, Alice Cooper, and many other metal acts. The drummer (Jimmy DeGrasso) has also played in lots of metal bands as a session/touring drummer. I'd recommend you listen to Ashes In Your Mouth, Five Magics, Good Mourning/Black Friday, In My Darkest Hour, Last Rites/Loved To Deth ... I could go on forever!

Rude Awakening is a reference to 9/11. The concert was recorded in their hometown of Phoniex AZ. They could not fly out to their concert date. Soooo.. They gave a show in their hometown. Recorded it and gave the proceeds to charity. I was 24 in 2001 and in the central timezone. Woke up around 8am to hear that the world trade center had collapsed. They are an hour further west. You can imagine waking up to that news. Also of course waking up to the reality of terrorism and that North America is not immune. THAT is the Rude Awakening he refers to. Cover art is a man bolting upright in bed as his bed and him plummet down the side of a skyscraper. That sums up that morning like nothing else.

Whaoo Masterpiece ! I am very pleased you enjoy Megadeth ! I didn't know the song or don't remember it exept for the Title ! But i know relatively well the album "Rust in Peace" and the album "Peace Sells : but who's buying" ? And they have masterpieces inside . So...maybe in the past i have listened also to this song (i doubt) but immediately seen Megadeth i thank Masterpiece 4'12"-4'32" ahahahah obviously ! Fenomenal armonies on the Solo. Although it seems heavely ispired to David Gilmour of Pink Floyd . Travis and Suzi i didn't recognize him...my fault ahahahah... but the drummer is Jimmy DE GRASSO...and you know...AHAHAHAH ;-) Beautiful piece of music in which emerges a great bass line ;-) and simplier to recognized bass sounds very precise !!! The bass pl. uses plectrum for the velocity of the music and because it gives a particular flavour with the sound of his Instrument ! I have to say that personally i really appreciate the sounds of the cymbals . Travis and Suzi the double bass drum patterns seem sort of an alternating sequence of paradiddles with accents . Pretty cool drum solo and i love your joy you know although I think for Jimmy is not difficult . It seems played precise (i mean REALLY precise) and with that rythms in terms of pure velocity and quick fills is for sure remarkable but it's far from the most difficult (we are speaking of monsters :-) ) . Tasty powerful and groovy for sure !!! We are speaking of professionists known by many people :-) in this case not recognized by me ahahahah !!! This drummer has great sounds on drums and their skins and an enormous technic with great soul . Those quick passages on the hihat while doing fills are really Jazzy !!! Suzi you are right that anyway Jimmy has a personal style in any case !!!! Nailed it ! Travis you are right the voice of Mustaine is a trademark it seems modified you guys are right . He is great to sing and play at the same time , he is really inspired .

Megadeth is the band I've seen in concert the most. Megadeth is insane. I mean, that was just ONE song. Imagine an hour and a half to 2 hours straight of nonstop, high energy, guitar solo after guitar solo madness. I put them seeing them live in the same category I put Slayer in. You leave their show drained and sleep like the dead when you finally get home. They will leave you with nothing left by the time they're done.

Dave Mustaine will never be world's best vocalist but for what he does with Megadeth it works so damn well. The best thing Metallica ever has done was kicking Dave out so he would form Megadeth. But, I mean, getting kicked out of a band that has been dubbed AlcoholicA by fans for being a drunk is quite the achievement... This band has brought us great metal consistently since they've started. Great band, great players, incredible songwiting. And whatever you think of Mustaine (I think he's an asshat, see for instance being a "Birther") that guy can PLAY and writes great songs. My favorite song always will be Sweating Bullets. It's not one of their more complicated songs, but it kicks ass and the video is fantastic
