Fun fact: There's a myth about man-eating snake women in Japan called the "Nure-Onna". The Japanese characters for it are "濡女" which literally translates to "wet woman". She really did her digging with Japanese lore and made it her own thing.
As a Japanese American, this music video is surreal. This is a perfect marriage between Megan's artistry, her vision, her "ii karada" (her BANGIN bod) and authentic Japanese imagery, folklore, and culture. As someone who has been a nerd, has loved anime since a kid, and as someone who has been timid about getting into rap and has only started listening to rap last year, it makes me blush to have Megan embrace our culture this way. It feels like being the nerdy kid at school and finding out the hottest person at school has a crush on you. It just melts your mind. Sending so much love her way. To those saying it's cultural appropriation, it's not. The definition of cultural appropriation is to profit off of someone else's culture WITHOUT caring for or benefitting the PEOPLE of the culture in a way that's exploitative. Japanese culture get appropriated A LOT and it's often done really poorly, not authentically, and Japanese people aren't even included or consulted (ie that one time with Katy Perry (not that any Japanese person would have wanted to be included in that shitshow). Even the other Japanese comments here are saying the imagery in this MV is authentic. A lot of times, you can tell when someone's love is disingenuous or just a cash grab and but with how authentic and beautiful this music video came out, how she used actual Japanese people (not some random east Asians), and how much love she shows towards Chiba Yuki, you can tell Megan's intentions and love are pure. This is hands down the best display of Japanese culture in American music. *Compliments to the chef for cooking*
Comment from Japan. It's a common story, but many MVs for foreign songs are "Japanese-style" MVs filmed by foreign directors. However, this MV is not Japanese-style, it is unmistakably the real thing. It was filmed in Japan and follows the Japanese Yakuza culture. Thank you Megan for the real MV.
@sabrinarodrigues629 that's not cultural appropriation and why am I seeing you in everyone's comment spewing hate on Megan. Stop being a hateful person
2024 and you dont know the difference between management and label? She's under her own label. Management gets outside opportunities eg, sponsor deals. *GROW UP* @kimoraanderson-
I just freaking love her creativity so much. As a black nerd who enjoys anime, horror and video games this just fills my heart. Megan is making waves for us nerdy, black girls. Keep shining Meg 💞
She really brings so many types together... shes highly educated, she loves anime, she is a creative, she still twerks despite the stigma, I could go on and on
As part of the new deal with WMG, Megan Thee Stallion will continue to be managed by Jay-Z's Roc Nation label. This deal follows the move by she and her former label, 1501 Certified Entertainment, to reach a settlement in October 2023.Feb 5, 2024 you can obviously see that the dark influence of roc Nation is all over this the same way it was all over Rihanna's music videos you need to read between the lines darling 😂🤣👋🏼

Current music trends are way far from culture. Everyone has its right to like or not trash, but putting the two words together goes above and beyond ignorance.
@@CML77777y'all are getting boring. She delivered a fun song with amazing video that has deep dived into Japanese mythology and has lots of references. Trashy is saying stuff is trash because you don't like them.
The guy in the beginning who asks for Megan is Sho Kasamatsu, a famous Japanese TV actor, who played an up & coming Yakuza member in the show "Tokyo Vice" and was one of the main characters. Just a little fun fact for those who don't know. Also, the aesthetic is so clean. Megan killed it. Pun intended.
From my point of view as a Japanese, this video is not culturally bankrupt. When you see a video about Japan, it is sometimes mixed with other East Asian cultures, but this one is perfect - Japanese gang culture, houses, paintings, actors, etc. It is perfect.
actually is backwards, the tiktok dance was made by her from this music video but released before on a small short. she did the marketing for her music

I know this, and it lures its victim by using a pretty woman drowning or a pregnant lady to lure them. So smart and I'm glad Megan is doing this! She ate with this song
The fact that she has an entire bridge in Japanese and it's a hit in the U.S. is big for Japan. You never see that. Also liked that she filmed this in Japan with people of Japan.
But then she made every Japanese woman she used a prostitute…. 😀 bfr that’s not respectful that harmful stereotype already exists n she’s perpetuating it. The single Japanese rapper she used was cool. But not the using women as props.
I’m not exaggerating, I truly believe this is the most horrendous song I have ever encountered in my entire life. I can’t even fathom something more dreadful than this. It’s not one of those “so bad it’s good” kinds of tracks; it’s just an unadulterated mess of noise. The beat is painfully atrocious, resembling something a child might slap together as a joke. And the lyrics…they’re the epitome of uninspiration, pandering shamelessly to the lowest common denominator. When my niece played this abomination in the car, it made me so incredibly angry. I felt so overwhelmed that I had to come here, to pour out my frustration, because I had to pretend to like it for my niece.

@@oldschoolsweetheart6336 regardless of their age, it doesn’t eradicate the fact that they are correct. The execution, artistry, and quality of the music video is very well done if you look into it more.
TO EVERY PERSON WHO JUSY SAW THIS VIDEO, THIS IS A PERFECT EXAMPLE OF A BLACK WOMAN APPRECIATING AND RESPECTING ONES CULTURE. No more excuses for artists now.
Ikr! She’s literally an independent artist!!! It’s unbelievable! i am a 14 boy from hong kong, I'd appreciate it if you'd listen to some of the tracks I've done. I’ve been a fan of Megan since Captain Hook she’s my favorite rapper
We stannn this representation!!!! We love diversity! i am a 14 boy from hong kong, I'd appreciate it if you'd listen to some of the tracks I've done. I’ve been a fan of Megan since Captain Hook she’s my favorite rapper
Megs love for anime, Japan, their history and culture is so strong. Shes a student first and it definitely shows in her craft. I love this woman so so much 👏🏽😭
@Snookered4568 Her degree is in healthcare management I believe. She just likes Japanese culture and being a former uni student helps her project ideas.
Megan Thee Stallion went crazy on this track! After seeing the short *on my channel* about how to blow up, Megan Thee Stallion is finally getting the recognition they’ve been working for.
Ikr!!! Like this really is a cinematic masterpiece! Victorians would die for this! i am a 14 boy from hong kong, I'd appreciate it if you'd listen to some of the tracks I've done. I’ve been a fan of Megan since Captain Hook she’s my favorite rapper

@@Francigmzlove Ariana and yea I do like we can’t be friends and the boy is mine a bit more but give Megan her moment come onnn it’s been months since eternal sunshine
You can tell this collaboration was different and important to Megan. She connected to a culture that she's clearly passionate about. I love this for her. ❤
The first time a western artist successfully integrated Japanese culture into their music! Gwen Stefani, Katy Perry, Avril Lavigne they all tried to do it before but failed miserably. You can tell Meg did her research and worked with actual Japanese artists to create this masterpiece! APPRECIATION not appropriation 👏
@@Jackolantirn I’m sure there’s smaller artists who worked with Japanese artists before but on this scale I’m pretty sure it’s the first time it’s done in such a good way!
she doesn’t just repeat it too. she’s kinda correcting him. He says orera wa sutaa or we are stars. To which she responds with watashi wa sutaa. I’M a star.

No one's playing. Most hate watchers accepted that fact after Hiss. Your comment is YOU finally accepting the facts about Megan. The only thing people are still delusional about is how most somehow think Nicki/Cardi the hottest ones in the game. Nicki is pushing 40 and is faker than a Barbie. Cardi without makeup is a car crash. Megan is a certified hot af baddie
She’s so creative and versatile? People just say that for no reason honestly! i am a 14 boy from hong kong, I'd appreciate it if you'd listen to some of the tracks I've done. I’ve been a fan of Megan since Captain Hook she’s my favorite rapper
In Japan, the color blue symbolizes purity, cleanliness, passivity & fidelity. He was painting them blue, so im guessing their purifying them? Idk but I LOVED IT!
She’s telling the story of “Nure-onna,” which is about an urban legend of a “Snake Woman” that is has the head of a woman with a reptile body, who hunts people at shore line. She pretty much hypnotizes them with her eyes before she drains them of their blood.
@@sabrinarodrigues629Japanese people embraced it so why are you mad? Like mind the business that pays you. Y’all love being fake outraged on behalf of other people 😂

I feel like this new album really encapsulates her interests and what she’s really passionate about when it comes to pop culture, etc. - BOA and Mamushi are great examples. As a black woman into anime and other similar types of media, I’m happy to see Megan enjoying what she does with incorporating her work and those cultures (while also being respectful) together!!! I hope she does the same for Otaku Hot Girl and B.A.S. 🫡🫡✨💅🏾
@@AohlanDelta the song is trash (personal opinion) but this music video is fire and seeing that actor pretty much confirms it. He was amazing in Tokyo vice.
I'm Japanese, I've been waiting for the music video for this song because I love the concept of this song. I'm sure the collaboration between these two has had a big impact on many people. I'll continue to support these two. Sorry for the confusing Google translation.
I love how her company told her that doing a song with BTS wouldn't benefit her in any way, yet here she is again doing more songs with international artists. Music transcends language, and the success of songs like this proves it.

The quality and concept of this music video is INSANE🤯🤯🤯 IDC what NO ONE says. THIS IS LITERALLY HER BEST MUSIC VIDEO 🐍🐍🐍🐍 Edit: I didn’t think this comment would get so much heat 🤓🤓
The raw authenticity and those cheeks in Captain Hook will always be iconic, but I do LOVE this music video. I want to see a movie concept of this!! I have to keep rewatching this video because I wish it was longer. I want to know the backstory of all people more, especially where that girl got those noodles. 😂🍜❤

that guy watching megan leave and whispering her name is so real. Like we're all constantly thinking about her and tormented about when we can see her again.
Megan Thee Stallion is dropping some serious heat here! Because Megan Thee Stallion took a look at the strategy I shared on my channel for rappers blowing up, Megan Thee Stallion numbers are now skyrocketing🤩
What I appreciate most is using a Japanese artist and her speaking Japanese too. I'm a Black woman that majored in East Asian Languages & Cultures (I studied Mandarin though), so this is dope to me. She did her homework. And it's fly.
This actually brought tears to my eyes because yes she is. It was literally so uncool to like anime and manga back in the day (I remember being made fun of all the time to the point I had to hide my interests from my friends at the time). Especially as a black girl. I'm so proud to exist in the same era as Megan Thee Stallion.
Really did I was like I HAVE to watch this for the inner child in me because the way I dreamed of something like this as a kid even though I’m just a new young adult this is monumental for me
