This is one of Babymetals best songs in my, and many others, opinion. Besides the Japanese imagery used, the theme of the song is very deep. Basically it's a female empowerment song. It says that women will hide their feelings, not to deceive men, but because they are strong and want to be respected for their various aspects. In Japan the fox (kitsune) is seen as a magical creature that can shapeshift, and women are often compared to foxes because men see them as deceiving if they don't fit into traditional roles. This song points out that women aren't foxes, but strong female foxes (megitsune). The part of the video that you cut out where Su-metal pulls out that Tanto blade, she says "Maidens shouldn't be underestimated".
This is one of my favorite songs period. The MV is amazing and there are parts that are beyond cute. There is a RU-vid video of the girls commenting on this video themselves and it's adorable. Su saying how her mic was "badass" and the Yui and Moa singing along during the sore sore sore parts again. The famous "Moa slide" as she said the hallways were slippery and they actually kept the footage of her sliding around. Of course this song is killer Live. Hearing the entire crowd sing sore sore sore with the girls just gives you that rush and makes you smile in awe. Glad you did another BABYMETAL reaction. Hopefully another one is around the corner. Babymetal live is life. Megitsune has traditional Japanese influence. This MV is one of the best alongside Karate, Distortion and BxMxC in my opinion. Most Babymetal performance are live shows. Su has mentioned that this is her favorite song, even though it's a difficult one for her to sing. She hopes to sing it perfectly some day. When she pulls out the tanto (short blade) she says: "Otome wa… nametara ikan zeyo." ("Maidens… should not be underestimated.") That's a line said by a gangster's daughter in the film 'Kiryu-in Hanako no Shogai' (1982), by actress Masako Natsume. It was released in the USA as 'Onimasa'. The performers pretending to play the traditional Japanese instruments in this video are dancers with the Movement Design group. Chidori Yakumo is their director. She is the woman performing the fan dance during the breakdown. Megitsune has been performed live more than any other BABYMETAL song, and frequently tops fan polls for favorite song.

Fox God is a very old tradition in Japan. So I think the MV changed from black and white to color, which means that the director took us from modern times to ancient times to see a group of little foxes singing and dancing.
They are singing traditional festival (Matsuri) chants in the song which includes "wasshoi" and "sore" (not sorry). Sore! literally means "that" can loosely be translated as "that's it!" or "that's the way" in this context (Matsuri chants).

There are 30,000 Inari Shrines in Japan, and they are deeply connected to the Japanese people. It is said that it may have been the Nestorians, a sect of Christianity that came to ancient Japan, who created the Inari Shrine. They were then assimilated into Japan. But for the Japanese, shrines are not a religion. It is simply a tradition. There is a folklore that "Megitsune" is a female fox that deceives men. This song is based on this cultural background.

Good reaction - and if you were going to do an official video this was a good choice (all the official videos are good, but live is where they are at their very best). Yes that was a "pig squeal" scream in the breakdown - to the tune of 'Sakura Sakura' (Cherry Blossoms), a very old and traditional Japanese folk song.

Su calls "Megitsune" her "song for tuning or criteria". In on-going 10 Budokan concerts started from January, this year they have already held 6 shows to date. They played "Megitsune" in all of the shows because this is one of their most popular songs.
Megitsune is one of their earlier tracks. It's one of the fan favorites and it most of the time tops fan votes. Megitsune is a song about woman empowerment. In the part when Su pulls out a katana out of her mic, she said "Otome wa... nametara ikan zeyo!" which means "Maidens... should not be underestimated!". Kitsune means "fox" in Japanese while Megitsune means "female fox". [The Japanese folklore tells that foxes can change into anything and deceive people. So a man who was deceived by a (charming) woman feels like deceived by a vixen and calls her "megitsune". That is, he says like "she is as cunning as a vixen".] [A man, however, very easily misunderstands the behavior of a charming woman and gets into the sweet illusion that she loves him, and, when he is disillusioned, he feels like deceived by her. When I recommend videos to my friends of Babymetal, I usually recommend their live shows.... But Megitsune (the song that got me into Babymetal lo those many years ago) is the only one that I recommend the MV to....That breakdown with the pig squeal and the japanese sakura sakura music is a big surprise after the poppy almost edm start.... This song best defines Babymetal... Japanese, Cute vocals, hard instrumentals, and surprises that shock you from 3 little girls.
This was the first BM song that I ever heard. Megitsune is Babymetal's female empowerment song and when they sing it in front of all female audiences it's amazing. The lyrics compare women to female foxes. In Japan foxes are known as shape shifters and the lyrics say that women often have to hide their true feelings and change the face they show to the world, not in a sly way, but for the benefit of others even if they are crying inside. The breakdown is a traditional Japanese tune "Sakura, Sakura" or "Cherry Blossom, Cherry Blossom", but Su sings "kitsune, kitsune" (fox, fox). This could be interpreted as a reference to Babymetal's divergence from their idol origins in Sakura Gakuin. Anyway, in the music, lyrics and also in the dance, Japanese traditions and traditional attitudes to women are subverted. The peak of this comes when Su shouts "Otome wa nametara ikan zeyo" or "Maidens should not be underestimated" and in the video threateningly draws a knife from her microphone or in concerts does a front kick. Foxes are also associated with Inari, the Japanese god of rice, abundance and now also material success in business. I think linking the "Fox God" to Babymetal is their producer Kobametal having a bit of a joke and what better mascot for a commercial venture.

In general is about Japanese women for many generations hiding their emotions, having to look perfect all the time, like wearing a mask, "smiling at face but crying at heart". Not from a depressing approach but to appreciate how strong women actually are. Very fitting reaction for these dates.
