If anything that should probably tell you that the products are similar enough that differences in testing come from testing implementation, not the products themselves
Thinking exactly the same thing. Was fixed on the Griots after several videos and comments, then I come here. I don't see where the application is that different, but the results hugely vary. Trying to decide on a new pressure washer and it just seems many reviewers are just trying to sell shit.
@@bogieman101 Hey bogie, the reason I am currently using Meg’s ceramic spray is that it can be applied several different ways and Ive been pleased with the results. Good thing is that if you buy something and want to try a different brand its not that expensive. May try Griots next time. 🤔
Thanks for you efforts and the video! I've tried the high dollar F11 & NexGen products with disappointing results. I think both Meguiar's and Griots are are pretty close and quality products, the favorite in my experience is the Griots.
New to your channel, great videos and info man. I used to use jescar powerlock topped with collinite 845, now for the first time I used Wolfgang sio2 sealant then topped with griots 3in1 after the first wash, my opinion is the griots boosted gloss over the Wolfgang. So far I do like the combo and the reason I went with griots was to not cover the sio2 efforts in the Wolfgang sealant, do you know of a better combo or what do you think of using these products in the manner I have?
Chris, that sounds like a decent combo. I appreciate you watching my videos :). Personally I don't usually combine products, my goal is to find a product for the particular application I'm doing as I think it's just more practical.
Brad its hard to pin point the top three because there are so many. My personal favorites right now are the Wolfgang Deep Gloss 3, Adam’s Graphene Ceramic Spray Coating, and Turtle Wax Seal N Shine if I were recommending to a friend. I find myself using them on my cars. However personal choice can vary a lot. Check out my charts at dmitrysgarage.com/wax
@@DmitrysGarage thanks. I read really good reviews about that stuff. I know they recently came out with a graphene pro flex that some people say is promising, but needs some time to prove itself
Real world durability - griots 3-1 outperforms this meguiars hybrid ceramic wax spray and also turtle wax’s ceramic spray. It probably beats Adam’s ceramic spray as well. Its a top shelf product.
@@DmitrysGarage probably a little different testing. He leaves his car hood out in the elements for months and checks on them probably once a month. He put a good 12 different ceramic sprays on the hood and after about nine months the Griots was one of the handful still beading. I think he's running another test starting May 1st and the Griot will be in there again. We'll see if it gets similar results but we'll have to wait months for the results 😀
The durability of Griots is good, even at 12 washes it’s been proven that this will bead strong for months at al time. So while maybe back to back washes it’s not the strongest in that test. On panels daily driven it holds up surprisingly well.
@@AmirAbdullah Apex detail did a durability test as well with back to back washes and he still had insane durability so this result on durability definitely seems like an outlier to me regardless of the testing methodology.
You can use Griots as a drying agent to top off every time you wash your vehicle. Only the first application needs to be dry. Second,Griots has a new speed shine with ceramic to top this off while doing a quick clean. My thoughts,if you use Griots to polish and protect, stay in the line. If you like MEGS,likewise. Ceramic reacts better on products using similar chemistry. Also, make sure both cure in a dry area away from rain, etc. Even a heavy dew will affect it. Cheers.
I've seen a bunch of other videos of these same products compared by top detailing guys. The Griots beat the Meguiars in every test I saw regarding depth, shine and durability. I'm not sure what was done differently here. I would suggest watching other reviews and compare all the results.
I enjoy using both. I was lucky enough to score the Griots before it was released while I was up in Tacoma at their flagship store. The Griots guys are super friendly and true car fanatics.
Thanks for watching and commenting J.T. It's appreciated :). I really liked how well the Griot's maintained shine, was also super easy to use. I've never been to their store, but would be cool to check it out one day!
The thing about all of these good cheap spray waxes is how easy they are to apply and importantly- re-apply. They're absolutely idiot proof and so simple to use. I love it.
The Griot's side seemed to get the harshest application of water concentration, spray pattern, and pressure from you. I don't see this test being applied fairly.
Great vid as always! You’re quickly becoming one of my favorite detailing channels on YT. It’s very interesting to see how these products fair in the durability tests. I’ve seen griots have no chemical resistance but lasted for months but also showed subpar durability in the wash test. Very interesting!
Gabe, appreciate the kind comment, thank you for your continued viewership :). Chemical resistance tests seem to really vary a lot based on what agent is being used. Wash wise I think 7 passes could be months depending on conditions and use of the vehicle.
That one is definitely on my list/queue. We'll get through the list and to that one soon enough! Thanks for watching and commenting, really appreciate it.
I've been extremely happy with the Last Coat Black Ice in the short term. I've only had it on two cars for a month, but they've held up really well to the Houston heat and even the rain we've had lately. I wash weekly. I'd love to see you test it as well.
That sounds really good, I've had multiple people request it. I'll bump it up in the queue and try to get to it real near term. Probably not the next 1-2 videos but after that is likely.
@@TheAverageJoeX last Coat is the best. I had my 2021 M3 Competition done by professionals and my other M4 I did with Black Ice was the same incredible product. AMP is awesome to
Great matchup between two of my favorite spray wax products. I have used both of these Si02 infused waxes in my detail shop for the past four months. I place a heavy emphasis on appearance and my observations are similar to yours. The Meguiars HCW works well on darker colors where it adds wonderful depth and gives the paint a a warm glow that can only be replicated with a well formulated carnauba or montan wax. The Griots Ceramic 3-In-1 Wax really makes lighter colors “pop” with a brilliant glossy shine. I have found that both of these products need a minimum of two layers (12 hours apart) in order to provide durable protection. A third layer adds more depth and protection. This is a highly competitive product category and I can’t wait for all the new Graphene oxide infused sprays that will be released in the future.
Thanks John, I would tend to agree with what you saw as well. Really appreciate you watching :). I am pretty excited about all the graphene products too, we'll see how much it helps with other implementations than those I've tested so far.
@@MrM4rvelous I would go with the Meguiar's Hybrid Ceramic Wax on your red Dodge. Start with a good strip wash to remove any old wax or sealant on the paint.
Excellent video! I just subscribed to the channel. Would be interesting to test extreme solutions poly seal against IGL premier. Gloss numbers should prove interesting.
With the meguiars, it needs high pressure water to wash off the hydrophilic chemicals and then only would the hydrophobic water beading ability show. Especially when applied dry. And dry applications are really prone to streaking. How I do dry applications is to first apply it dry on a slightly damp cloth, then buff it off with a damp microfibre, and then another dry microfibre cloth. Best streak free result. And through these you still need to pressure wash the surface for water bearing effect to show.
Mr. Dmitry: don’t you believe that the Meguiar’s is a good choice for wheels? I think that the possibility of “wet waxing” will help a lot in the maintenance of wheels. Great vídeo, kind regards from Mallorca, Spain. 👍
Thanks for watching! Some products do increase gloss. You can check out the table on my site here: dmitrysgarage.com/wax I have also noticed many other channels use the gloss meter on the wrong setting, i.e. at a degree that is meant for matte or semi-gloss surfaces and not glossy surfaces.
Appreciate it J.T. :) I try to make things as scientific as possible and open with my methods. I can't say my techniques are perfect, but since I explain what I'm doing anyone should be able to replicate the setup and validate my results if they're interested in doing so.
Just hanging around before the channel gets huge 😎. Also I'm gonna get the Meguiar's next week since Seal N Shine is like 30% more expensive here. Looking forward to it. Thanks again for the awesome vid!
Now you have increased the gloss of the gloss panel it's going to effect the ability of products to increase gloss.. so it's now not a fair test from side to side..
That is a great point and I do have it annotated in my table so that you can see which tests were at which base gloss. Another aspect to this is that its closer to car paint now. Polished paint is in the mid to high 90s range.
Dude.....I hate 90% of all the detailer channels....always so vague with no definitive conclusions....you are SO much better and organized.. Glad I found your channel. Subscribed.
I give your application process a solid D+ grade at best, for both products... You should of used a small micofiber towel, not that big ass beach towel, and sprayed more than you did.. I find bc you did a pour job applying the products, it showed in the product test results.. If I was a paying customer and watched you spray so cheaply, I'd want my money back.. Very disappointed in this review....
Sorry that you didn’t like the review. New one for me, because I’m usually accused of being a product waster. With spray sealants I find the most effective application is about what you saw. It avoids streaking and a mess to clean up. Keep in mind these products are incredibly thin layers, nothing nearly as thick as paint. You don’t actually need a ton of product.
Im curious as to which spray wax actually is your favorite or your top three . Because i was considering these 2 however im open to anything better even if it costs more.
I really enjoy and appreciate all the content. Always really solid videos. This has become one of my favorite channels. I really dig the music too. Thank you for all the hard work.
It interesting to watch many of the testing videos and see varying results. Some have the Griot's outperforming Meguiar's and other videos with Meguiar's on top. For the price range and what these products offer, can't really go wrong with either one. Both are around the same price point, very easy to apply, and provide adequate protection for spray on ceramic waxes.
I just bought the Griot's after watching a series of durability tests compared to several other products. The tests I saw were long term with monthly washes over a year. Griot's "shined" in that kind of test. Maybe it sets up and hardens over time and not as good with a bunch of washes soon after application. I wash my car about once every two weeks so long term is what I am looking for. I haven't tried it yet.
Allen, it's possible that there is some effect over time. I only wait a day between application and testing unless otherwise specified in the instructions on the bottle. I'm assuming this was a test on an actual driven car and those sort of tests are hard to control for my purposes. For example if I were to test products in the summer and compare them to products in the winter those two seasons would have different effects. Similarly if I drive a lot or a little or in the crazy heat this year vs. milder heat next year.
I have heard you say its not the best spray wax, or ceramic coating on the market, can you say which is the best? I know things change a lot, just your fav please.
Milton, I really like Wolfgang Uber SiO2 Silica Spray, Turtle Wax Seal N Shine and Xtreme Solutions Poly-Seal. I would say the Wolfgang is the best in terms of looks and durability, but it's going to be slightly less forgiving if you leave high spots than the other two, but still VERY easy to use, just make sure you wipe it all off. The Turtle Wax SnS is very very easy to use, very durable and you can't really mess up much, but it's not that great looks wise. The Xtreme Solutions Poly-Seal is really pretty, super easy to use, but just not as durable as the others, it's definitely the weakest durability wise, but very pretty. For coatings I would say my two favorites are Adam's Graphene Ceramic Coating (liquid) and BLACKFIRE Ceramic Black Edition. You can't go wrong with either, but I found the durability on the Adam's was absolutely insane, while the BLACKFIRE is prettier to look at. Adam's was also slicker, which helps with scratch prevention, but really you can't go wrong with either.
Griots garage is hands down my favorite product, been using it since 2014, but I always use their speed shine, I found that the ceramic wax was pretty hard to work in and was pretty smeary...I hate saying anything bad about their product but the speed shine is 10x better than the ceramic When it comes to the Meguiars it did smell very sweet, almost like a berry yogurt or ice cream... but hands down Griots speed shine is the best product I've ever used still to this day...I haven't used the ceramic speed shine though...just the ceramic like in the video
I love Meguiar's Hybrid Ceramic Wax (Griot's is hard to find in France at the moment!), I prefer HCW to HCLW !. And HCW with hybrid ceramic detailer as top coat the result is top! Super hydrophobic, slickness ... I am waiting to see with the pro version M799 bead booster when it is available !. Superb review my friend 👌
Thanks Nico, appreciate you watching my video. Always interesting to hear what products are available in different markets. Glad that HWC is working so well for you! Thanks again!
@@DmitrysGarage Yes I would like to test griot's but very hard to find, or with large shipping costs abroad !. In Europe we have a lot of choice for detailing, but strangely enough, I always come back to meguiar's !. Except for the coatings where I use carpro. Although the M188 deep-crystal paint coating (nano-polymer) and M688 ultra paint coating (nano-polymer + Sio2) from meguiar's are excellent too !. I can't wait to try the new M788 ceramic paint coating from meguiar's. We will have it in France ☺️. Good luck my friend (Ps : Even if I don't understand everything 100% I love to listen to you talk, your a TV presenter voice 🎤🤣😉)
Hello nice post. Is it possible for you to put any of this sealants again the latest sealant ??? That is the......Zymol Atomic Graphene Shield Paint Sealant. Its just like in a bottle of Meguiars ceramic wax. I think many want to see that before buying this new sealant. Thanks.
Have you ever tested the TW Hybrid Solutions Ceramic Spray Coating (not the wax)? I find it excellent, not the easiest to apply but very glossy and seems to be very durable, too.... but I cannot make your kind of durability test! Would love to see you testing vs. the TW Ice or vs. a graphene product
I have used the Megs, but was not very pleased with the durability. I have never used the G.G. 3 in 1. Currently, I use the Turtle Wax Hybrid Solution line of products. I first applied the T.W. Polish/Wax last November '19, and today they still have shine & protection. For the price, you can't beat Turtle Wax Hybrid products. Right now, they are on sale at my local Walmart for $6.00 each. WOW!
I wonder if you could do a comparison video between AMMO Reflex Pro and Adam’s Graphene Ceramic Coating (60 ml bottle not spray). Great videos Dmitry, good editing style and presentation.
if you're interested, read into gloss meters and why they're a pretty flawed approach to measuring how good a product looks unfortunately. I wish everyone copied Sandro's method at Car Craft Auto Detailing for measuring gloss/filling capabilities. He uses a black panel with buffer marks, and simply sees which product fills in the buffer marks the most
@@DmitrysGarage I absolutely love your videos. Just wish you could make more frequent updates but I know your not a full time youtuber so I understand. Suggestion to get a black test panel so you can better showcase how much of an effect the products have. So much easier to see when it's black paint.
Rajiv, appreciate it :). I wish I could make them faster too. It takes about 1.5 hours per minute of video on average. So it's quite a task considering my day job. I will have a bunch of new videos out soon though as I had a couple of companies reach out and ask me to test their products. Definitely a new video around this time next week ;). I will be looking for more test hoods in the future. I got this one out of a junkyard, it was the right price and lightweight aluminum without too much paint damage. I really wanted factory paint and not have to respray as factory paint tends to be reasonably durable. I'll see if I get lucky next time with something in good shape and black!
Unfortunately that just doesn’t really work for this kind of testing. Products are always best applied to a polished substrate. Rough unprepared paint will impact other properties like durability, ease of application, etc… furthermore I can’t maintain a consistently identical unpolished surface as it will get worse with every test. This means each test will drift away from the last. I can maintain a consistent polish by using the same polishing compound and materials. Not to mention polishing ensures all remnants of other products are gone, especially important for coatings. Lastly as all pros will point out polishing is what yields the vast majority of shine. Depth, character and other factors of what your brain interprets as glossy “candy” appearance do come from the product you apply.
these days. it doesn't matter .. there are so many good cheap options that go on and wipe off so easy, gives good gloss and durability for many washes to come. pick one find one that works and call it a day. make sure you prep the surface first to get the best results but yeah most big wax, sealant, coating mfgs don't play around and the products are mostly good . Groits, Meguires, Turtle Wax Hybrid line, are all affordable quality paint protectants that do what you want them to. Even now sooner real true coating commodious like Gyeon have real ceramic coatings that can be applied and wiped off immediately without issues for 40 to 60$. whatever you use, use new clean applicators and microfibers and you'll be happy and impressed with the outcome. take your time. it is nice though to have a few go to products that you can count on. great videos keep it up
Demitry i like the channel and your content but all of the e begging is a massive turn off You obviously have money a big house and nice cars and a massive garage Why hit us so hard for the amazon link buy in and the subscriber stuff every video ?
Thanks for watching. I appreciate that I am blessed with nice things, but it costs significant money and time to make these videos. Many thousands of dollars in equipment alone. Asking viewers does actually make a difference, I used to not do it, but the difference became mathematically evident when I started. I'm sorry that it bothers you, but ultimately if I'm to continue making these videos long term I need to have the channel grow both in viewership and financially. I also don't consider this e-begging, since I'm providing you the video, not just asking for something from you. Many viewers want to buy the product they see, it helps me if they buy it through my links since I helped expose them to the product. Again, really appreciate you watching!
@THE PHANTOMARSE No sir, I appreciate his honesty... as other content creators try to sneak it in... “There’s a link to buy the product below...” But without actually informing you it’s an affiliate link and they’ll get commission (no matter how small). I like Dmitry’s upfront approach, if you wish to buy the product on Amazon use the link and help out the person who introduced you to the product and also convinced you to buy it. Or don’t and search for it on your own via the same website or an alternate marketplace. Or don’t bother to ever click the link... the point is it’s there if you ever want to. I do feel like Dmitry isn’t being swayed too much to either side when demonstrating products.. and I appreciate this genuine approach. As many others have already fallen into the sell out to the biggest bidder approach when promoting products.. I hope this doesn’t change over time as his channel grows and he gets more attention from major automotive detailing product manufacturers. I want an unbiased real world opinion... not something someone’s obviously been paid for and so they make the product out to be the best thing ever only to be followed by another ‘best thing ever’ the following week. Keep it up Dmitry, stay true for us DIYers! 👍🏼
@@Ultreras Thanks John, I really appreciate your kind comment. My goal is definitely to be as transparent as I can be, whether that's about products or why I'm asking a viewer to do something like visit an affiliate link. I appreciate your viewership!
You can use 3n1 as a drying agent as well. Tons use it this way as a booster Fact is Meguiars has been riding on its name and distribution for a long time. Yes they did step upmwith m105/205 butnit was quickly surplaneted. Fact is Meguires neber ranks top unless its a paid or free product eval.
I’m looking for a product that I can use that’s just nice to apply and use. These spray sealants are great but I feel like I prefer the more traditional application of the paste/liquid waxes. I wanted to get the wolf gang but it’s a little pricey. Do you know any good easy to use products around 30$ and below. Thanks in advance!
Gave, thanks for watching! I would say bang for buck wise it's hard to beat these sprays. However, I also enjoy liquid/paste waxes. Right now Wolfgang DG3 is about $40. If you're trying to stay around $30 you could look at Jescar Power Lock Plus, it's about $32 on Amazon. That Jescar is just about as good as Wolfgang in my opinion. The next best out of what I've tested would probably be Collinite 845, but it's a bit trickier to use and not quite as nice as the other two, but it's under $19 on Amazon. Hope this helps!
Dmitry's Garage wow thanks for replying so fast! Yeah I’ve seen great things about Jescar so I think that’s what I’ll try next! Great video. Looking forward to more of your content!
Funny in other channels testing....griots is far superior in terms of durability. I've used the Meguires, it's really hard to apply on a black car. I have OCD when detailing my cars. It always left an oily smear. I would have to really buff it off. The griots was really easy to apply. Spray on and buff off.
@@HectorGarcia-ww5do I think that it's generally best to find a single product that meets your particular need. There are so many waxes, sealants, glazes, coatings, etc... out there that surely one will do what you need for your show car, daily driver, garage queen, etc... There are certainly some complimentary product combinations that are known. However, combining two products doesn't really make a "mega product". It's not like if you put a shiny product on top of a dull durable product you get a shiny durable product. In fact untested combinations may result in weak performance of the first product you apply due to solvents in the second product.
There is a 1 year test and Meguires did not last more than 6 months while Griots made it past longer than 1 year. Always do you enhancers BEFORE the seal. For the best seal, let the product do its job.
I’ve recently started using ultimate fast finish and love the shine and slickness it adds but I experimented on my truck and girlfriends SUV and do my disappointment after ordering 3 cans of ultimate fast finish… the great looks only last a few weeks. My go too now after experimenting that last me around 3-4 months of washing every week is turtle wax seal and shine topped with 2-3 layers of turtle wax ice spray wax. I’ve recently used meguire’s hybrid ceramic and it’s about 3 weeks on my truck and doing decent. But I actually like it a lot of my wheels to keep them clean from brake dust. Good luck man!
@@DmitrysGarage You know I didn’t even think about TW but your not the first person to say it is a good product, I will have to check it out. Thank you for the informative videos, a lot of great info!
1. Both are great products. 2. There is no instantly noticeable, huge differences in aesthetics. 3. Testing water repellency is quite useless and irrelevant in real life daily driving. 4. The most important is repellency of dirt/grime/contaminants (not just clean water) while retaining gloss as long as possible.
I haven't really waxed an aluminum trailer, but I would imagine it would be similar to paint. I would check out my table of tests here: dmitrysgarage.com/wax
The griots garage works well on all surfaces. I use it from the paint on my truck to the chrome wheels. I’m sure it would also work well on your trailer.
This review blows , where in real life is alcohol gonna contact the car finish? Usually when u use alcohol of wax and grease remover is because ur painting the surface or need the wax product removed. There's other reviews on you tube that actually test these ceramic coatings with real life situations like natural sun light rain cold weather and such, no body cares about a gloss meter lol, It sounds like u work for Griots.
Lol you obviously didn’t pay attention. The alcohol portion of the video is just to see if it removes the wax since alcohol is used to remove waxes when detailing. Its not scored and has no bearing on the review. Furthermore if you had paid attention you would know the review favored Meguiars not Griots in the conclusion.
Two things. First, I really wish ALL detailers who do these types of tests would dry off the water after each rinse. in 30+ years of detailing I know for a fact that a portion of the wax/polish/coating is removed by drying. I makes a big difference. Who doesn't dry their cars, except for the few who use a leaf blower or similar air dryer? Second, it would be helpful to keep the tape on the surface so we can actually see exactly where the sections are and they be marked.
Everyone has different drying processes these days. Personally I blow dry and use a drying aid to clean up any remaining water where needed. Ultimately the purpose of this test is a repeatable process that can benchmark one wax against another, which this accomplishes. Having to make it completely real world would be more than just drying. It would mean aging, uv exposure, heat, cold, and other highly variable factors that can’t be controlled for benchmarking in an enthusiast environment.
Excellent video, great editing. And thanks for linking the Gloss Meter. I've been looking to purchase one. Other Detailers fail to link these miscellaneous devices from their videos.
I want to apply the Maguiars ceramic spray wax on dry paint as first application. What do you say? I understand that the manufacturer has recommended wet application.
I think Griots would of performed better if it was used as directed. He stated he used just one coat. If he sprayed another coat it would of been better. Overall both are good.
I don’t understand why we care so much about how long these products last. I mean I use the griots and am more then happy to put a fresh coat on every month.
Durability and ease of use, based on my experience, are the two things the average person wants from a product. Enthusiasts have all kinds of other needs. Some people enjoy waxing or sealing every time they wash a car. If that's you that's great. Other enthusiasts want the durability too because they may paint correct between applications and they don't want to spend multiple days paint correcting and have a product that only lasts a few months.
