I do not like the built quality is too which is too bad and the optical image quality is not very good. I have the ZEISS Batis Sonnar 85mm1.8 which you easily can get used
Well, there are quite a few options here. Sony 85 1.8, Viltrox 85 1.8, Samyang's both 75 1.8 and 85 1.4, even Yongnuo 85 1.8. It's a great time to use Sony E mount.
I'm laughing at everyone upset about this comparison. Guessing they spent the big bucks. It's always worth a comparison to see the quality from top to bottom. Really let's you know what $200 gets ya vs $1000+ for 95% of people it will be just fine.
You nailed it Bro! If you happen to be a content creator, then 90% of your audience will be viewing your work on a 6 1/4" screen and 98% of these reviewers are focusing on details you can only see via pixel peeking! ✌️
Even if this isn't your cup of tea, you got to love the overall Sony ecosystem. Lenses that are more than decent at every budget range - even from multiple vendors. Having Sony opening its protocol has been a wise decision as they dominate the lens catalog arena. And good job Mieke! Excellent review NO limits ON !!
Just bought the meike. I love it. The aberration not much of a problem. Eliminate in post. I'm still playing with custom color settings on a6300 to get to where I like, especially for skin. For the money, this lens well worth it. I also like USB port for updates.
I got my sigma 85mm f1.4 used for abut 600 dollars so I like this over the cheapest to the most expensive. However, it is cool how many great lenses you can get on the cheap now. For instance, my Tamron 24mm (I got used for about 150 dollars), takes super sharp pictures on my Sony a 7riii. And it's amazing how many older quality lenses you can get on the cheap now. For instance, I recently repurchased the Zeiss 35mm f2.8 lens for 250 dollars in great condition. Even was able to get the Zeiss Batis 18mm f2.8 for 600 dollars.
I would always go for the Batis, because it is a lense for professionals. The other one is very bad. But if there is no other lense and you got a low budget, then take the meike.
I had some weird banding on low light gig photo shoot, not sure if that’s because of the light in the stage or the optical quality is not able to handle it. Will continue testing it, if i get these weird banding which would ruin photos in my opinion, i will return them.
@@NOlimitsON Looked further into it, it seems to happen with mirrorless cameras as far as i know. Jared Polin has a video talking about it. I tried recreating it, however I havent been able to do it. Perhaps only happens in those low light scenarios.
ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-NFGurgO4sf0.html From this video I learnt that the banding I experienced was basically caused by the uncontrollable glare, LED lights everywhere and the use of silent shutter. I was just in the worst place possible for this lens while using the worst settings.
The banding is caused by the flicker of LED lights and shows up when your shutter speed is faster than the frequency of the flicker. You can avoid this by either lowering your shutter speed (if possible) or by using the mechanical shutter.
Help me with the Meike 85mm EF. I went to update the firmware and shortly after, the lens stopped working on my camera. How do I reset the lens firmware?
What about Meike's performance on Canon DSLRs, especially on crop censor bodies? Is the AF with Canon's dual pixel cameras as good as with your Sony camera in video mode?
Hi, yes you’ll get a full frame equivalent of 170mm, but you’ll get the same amount of light coming at the sensor, but also you’ll get the amount of blur and background separation as approximately f3.5 full frame lens. Hope you got my thoughts right
Hi No Limits On My Meike has a very large chromatic deviation. Do you know if this has a fix or do I need to modify something in the configuration? Happens on A7C and ZVE10
@@jeffersonalves3202 oh, got you! It's a weak point of this lens, if you have something very contrasty in the shot - stop down the aperture to at least f2.8 or better f4 to reduce chromatic aberrations
On Sony E, Zeiss lenses are rip off HQ. They're some of the worst, and most expensive options at all focal lengths they compete in. But people keep falling for the "that zeiss something" that nobody can define :)
@@kistovisback no, the zeiss 85 is better in almost any regard, Also better than the sony 85mm 1.8. If you are not professional and you just want to get decent headshots, yeah the chinese Meike 85 will do the trick. Its comparable to the old Canon EF 85mm 1,8 with Metabones/Mc11 Adapter.
@@FredMinimal the zeiss is better than the meike, yes. About 150 dollar betters. Holding like some kind of gold standard however is drinking the cool aid
@@FredMinimal The Batis uses an almost identical ipticak formula to the Sony 85 1.8. It was designed by Sony and manufactured by Zeiss and every comparison has shown near identical results with the only notable differences being build and coatings. Nobody is buying the Batis now that the Sony 85 1.8, Sigma 85 1.4 DG DN, and Sony 85 1.4 GM are available. Stop talking shit.
Do people who compare all these cheap lenses from Sigma, Samyang, Tamron, Meike and so on, to top quality glass from Zeiss, Leica or Hasselblad, really not see how much worse the images look or is everyone pretending to be visually impaired?! If you’re on a budget or if you’re just a casual photographer making a living, them sure, go for it, the lenses do the job but otherwise, you’d have to be visually impaired to recommend these dead, flat lenses to an artist or a serious photographer. There’s a reason why everyone at the top of the industry doesn’t care about autofocus speeds, accuracy, sharpness… And why everyone uses either Zeiss, Voigtlander, Hasselblad or Leica lenses - or they shoot with Hasselblad or PhaseOne cameras… The reason being, both of the aforementioned options give artists images that have dimensionality, depth, tonality and tons of micro contrast! I was recently on a photoshoot for Elle magazine and these people couldn’t care less about camera or lens stats and charts, they just use what produces the best images and when I was asking all these questions about their gear, I was just met with a smile and a “Well, we used Hasselblad for a reason, don’t we?” response.
for photos, with fucking instagram these days, its compression and all the editing ppl do to their photos. what the majority of ppl see, wont look that different between any of them .
