The kata Meikyo is performed slightly differently in the various schools of Shotokan. This is the SKIF version of the kata permormed with an explanation of the different moves.
Excellent explanation! I just came back to shotokan in belleville ontario. Sensei dezono shared this kata and is now one of my favorites. Great video...thank you sensei
Very useful, thank you. Your video is linked on the Central Federation of Traditional Shotokan web page as an example for this kata and it has been extremely useful to me as I am currently learning Meikyo. Thank you, sensei.
I don't know if the person who posted the video response was trying to prove something or whatever but I found this video very informative. Thank you for taking the time to explain this in detail and for your channel itself. I subscribed last week and have been using this for a good supplemental extra in my Shotokan training.
I just learned this one last week ^^ Nice kata, more complicated than it seems to do the right way, but a very "comfortable" one to do, if you know what I mean... I just love it :) Btw, I like very much your style man, such kime in every move but keeping the stillness and calm the whole rest of the time, reminds me of my actual sensei, really good work.
Can you please comment on the meaning of the two techniques after the bo grab techniques? I tend to think of the bo grab as a strike to the armpit with the front hand while grabbing and pulling the wrist with the rear hand, but I'm not sure how to interpret what's next. Thanks!
