Meinders plays Lyadov - Variations sur un thème populaire polonais, Op.51 + sheet music 

I have to confess that I didn't know this pianist until today. I love his fearless approach and delicate, individual, phrasing. And the quality of his legato is just outstanding. This recording made my day.

Whaaaaaat? No comments here??? I love this! An incredibly beautiful and loving performance of this not-so-familiar but gorgeous and touching Lyadov composition.

IMO one of the very best Russian variation sets, rivalled only by Glazunov's Op.72, played with real panache and considerable freedom. Thank you !

This is very Medtnerian - the pastorale in particular reminds me of Medtner's sonata Idyll.

It's a pity that Lyadov did not leave any other variations, as it was an area in which he excelled. One can detect diaphanous harmonies, the writing is more supple, and on the whole the work seems less virtuosic (but this is not meant to be a criticism !).
