Lang's super stack gets so little love. That thing BITES and is such a smooth sound in person.

It’s great in person!! I also use it flipped with the trash crash on top and tightened down. Nice bite that way. When the China side is up, loosen the wing nut and let sizzle!!

I agree. That would be an awesome video! I feel like personally I would choose the Matt Garstka Fat Stack. Its dry and trashy and it sounds how I think a stack should sound. I also wouldn't mind Matt Halpern's new Double Down Stack as well. You should had that to the stack collection video! lol

For my taste... 1. Anika Niles Deep Hats - loose 2. Matt Garstka Fat Stack - medium 3. Thomas Lang Super Stack - loose 4. Luke Holland Bullet Stack - medium Anika's one is just right for me, especially when played loose - a lovely balance between bright and dark. You can also play it at pretty much any dynamic which I love. The problem I have with a lot of stacks (especially tighter sounding ones) is that they can sometimes sound a bit one dimensional and, at least for me, don't work so well at lower dynamic levels. The stack hats concept I find tends to solve that problem as they have a softer touch when played at a lower volume. I made my own 16" Zildjian stack hats out of an A Custom EFX and an A crash, and it sounds pretty similar to Anika's one.

Here in the Netherlands they are pretty damn expensive as well.. The Anika Niles 18" Deep Hats are like €666 or more.

I'm thinking because you're getting not one but TWO high quality cymbals, engineered for a stack or not, I wouldn't expect to pay much less for a pair.

Even in the US they are expensive as hell. The fat stack is 570.00 without tax. I want to try Matt halperns new double down stack but that cost even more and I'm not tryna spend that much. The fat stack was worth it for me since it's my favorite cymbal/cymbals of all time, not just favorite stack of all time but favorite cymbal and use this stack in every setting in every song, just as much as my hats and ride. But I'm def not spending this much on another stack. The bullet stack I got before they even decided to come out with the bullet stack and just bought a used 12 inch classics custom trash splash and a used 16 inch byzance vintage trash crash and made the bullet stack that way which is exactly the same and sounds exactly the same. The only difference meinl made is literally printing the name bullet stack on the cymbal but other than that it's the same thing.

Tom O'Connell yeah I heard the crack pretty quick. It’s a shame bc it really does sound AMAZING. Bullet stack is my favorite then probably the Fat Stack.

Took me about 2 years to crack my Luke Holland bullet stack (bottom cymbal). I love it but not sure if I want to spend the money to get that thin cymbal again knowing it's shelf life is so limited.

Honestly, its hard to compare Luke's stack to the oders because its the most differently sounding and, as you said, its more for likr accents than riding on it. So i would prefer medium tight Matt Gartska's stack together with Luke Holand's tight stack on my kit :)

I really dig the Deep Hats with the medium tension. But how do all the stacks sound as individual cymbals? I'd be really interested in seeing a video comparing the different cymbals by themselves.

Meinls new 18 classic custom dark trash stack sounds better than all those in my opinion because I tried them all and ended up buying the new dark stack because it's so damn versatile, you can use it for pretty much any genre of music. I like playing many styles so I would recommend giving the stack I mentioned a try. O and by the way you can separate them and you got 2 badass cymbals one is the 18 trash crash the other is a 18 trash China. They both sound amazing stacked or separated!

Just found this video as I've recently been looking at the Meinl stacks / effects cymbals. For me, it's between the Anika Niles 18" Deep Hats, and the Matt Gartska Fat Stack! Then again, I do love the Thomas Lang Bullet Stack for certain accents and fills.... I'm not too keen on the Luke Holland stack, but I think it depends on the style and musicaility of the tracks. The stack itself fits so perfectly with what Luke plays, but my personal preference and playing probably sits with Anika's deep hats! Perfect video and playlist though - brilliant demonstration and comparison! You have a new subscriber!

Trash stacks are pretty cheap to make yourself by using old broken cymbals and cheap no name cymbals, by drilling your own holes.. Save some bucks!!

I don’t get the love for stacks. Terry Bozzio has been stacking cymbals for years and they still don’t sound any better to me. Why pay for two cymbals instead of one just to dampen the sound?

The bullet stack was unique and different, but I honestly didn't like it at all. I can see the appeal, though. My rankings would be: 1. Thomas Lang Super Stack 2. Anika Nilles Deep Hats 3. Matt Garstka Fat Stack (almost tied with Deep Hats) 4. Luke Holland Bullet Stack Again, these are just my personal tastes. If I bought one, though, I would probably buy the Deep Hats because they seem to be more versatile in terms of single cymbal use and using as hi hats in some situations. If only they were cheaper..

the bullet stack was the only one i saw that couldn't be closely replicated using cymbals that amounted to less that $150, in luke's vids it sounds amazing too
