Check out more of the Meinl Classics Custom Dark series over on Sweetwater: imp.i114863.net/dd2Bk Everything I use in this video, plus more! imp.i114863.net/6Z0jG Facebook: / therdavidr Instagram: / davidraouf
Well, they are already giving some good exposure to each other with these collabs. I think it is quite close to a sponsorship in my opinion. But yeah, making it more official would be nice.
I use the 18" and 19" in my set. They're indeed, very loud, but the dark undertones is what makes me like it the most. Fun stuff. Btw, nice punk playing, you!
This is, without doubt, the best vid you've ever done on cymbals. Why?! Because you played those damned thing in EXACTLY the context they SHOULD be played in. Every other CCD video is some melodic crap or the standard hip-hop funk beats, and you dont REALLY hear how they open up like this vid! Thank you, man!!!
@@Allinguts This is EXACTLY what they sound like. Just as loud (its going to piss off your guitar player... but he had an amp 🤣) and just as intricate. Meinl, as a company, is one of my loyalties on this planet, honestly. They make AFFORDABLE products that sound GREAT! 💯 And not just the cymbals... but all of their stuff. Most companies make their "affordable line for beginners" and it sounds like absolute trash. Meinl makes their "affordable line for beginners" too... (Brass cymbals and whatnot)... but they put the time into making them NOT sound like shit. They make their B8 Cymbals sound as good as humanly possible, and unlike Paiste and Zildjian, don't make you have to mortgage your house to get them. 💯 The Classic Custom Dark series sounds great on almost any stage (other than jazz... they ARE LOUD), and I've recorded them in studio to engineers being amazed at how well they record. 💯 All for 1/4 the price of a set of the (imo) overrated "K's".... Meinl makes shit for people who WORK for a living. I respect the hell out of that company. 💯
This might be one of the best videos on this cymbal pack. I don't know why I didn't see this video when researching these. I got this cymbal pack without seeing this particular video and was sort of taking a leap of faith with the "limited" amount of videos I saw of these exact cymbals. I went ahead and got them because they ticked most of the "boxes" I had in mind. I bet I'll like them is what I'm thinking after seeing how you play them. They still got to come in but now I'm more excited about them. You make them sound awesome man. To be half as good or a 1/3 I'd be fine with hahaha. Hopefully get decent with them and of course proper practice. Very cool channel. Thanks for sharing.
I actually use the 22" Dark Ride in my videos and with heavier studio sessions. Its seriously underrated if you demand a heavy, cutting ride cymbal. I've previously owned the 14" Dark Hats and loved them. I've played the crashes and the Crash-Ride, and they all sound great. The Crash-Ride in particular is a rarity in this price class, as you won't find many crash-able rides with good definition and a usable bell.
Ive had the 15" hats and 18" crash, and really love them. The crash has a nice dark tone but it is also punchy, it just sounds different. The hats are very versatile, good for more defined playing and can get loud and washy when you open them up. Really versatile cymbals. For the price, these are incredible.
Exactly what I was looking for. Not only a perfect review of the cymbals I've been considering for a while but also rdavidr playing hcx beats. I love your channel!
Great cymbals. I'd have to say I like the 14 hats , 16 & 18 crash , 20 ride. I'm looking to get a mix of classic customs and darks. Great video. Nice to actually "hear" this meinl series in action.
I always love when you upload videos, it's an extra treat when you bust out some punk jams! Keep up the good work, love your stuff! Cheers from sweden \m/
Great review, great sound. I play Classic Customs darks too. And while I want to be playing Tool and Jinjer, I gig in a Zac Brown Tribute band in Florida and for small venues these things don't even need to be mic'ed up. That 22 inch ride had a ping reminiscent of Vinnie Paul. The 15 inch hats are crisp and dont have the overtones of cheaper metal. And the 20 inch crash is an absolute workhorse. I've heard there is an awesome stack that can be made with a Classics Customs Dark China and splash but havn't tried it myself. Drum on Drummers!
I've had the 19 inch cash for about a year now. Love it. And after looking and listening to all kinds of other cymbals, I'm gonna buy some more of these. I don't think you can beat them for the money.
Been playing with an almost complete set up of these for years now, which is great considering they’ve lasted a punk band, multiple recording sessions, and an entire summer stock on musical theater. I’m using the 16 crash as a crash ride on my street kit and it kicks ass with that bell. Can’t wait to get my China and complete the set.
I was on the fence about these cymbals, but after hearing someone play them in the type of music I'm gonna be playing, they sound pretty damn good 👍. Thanks for not forgetting the punk and hxc drummers out there
Dang not sure how I missed this video. I’ve watched since the beginning days in the old room and garage. Didn’t realize you was into heavy metal. Awesome
I can't wait to get my hands on this set, the look awesome and love how subtle the wash and vibrance is. Also you don't hear that super high pitched under tone in the sustain like the zildjans have, especially on their hi hats.
I’ve got the classic custom 18” crash, 16” crash, and 8” splash. I’ve been debating about what to get for a ride and for a new ride and that crash ride sold me on it!
So sick to hear you playing early 2000's hardcore stuff! I own an 18" and 20" crash of this set, they both record beautifully, I fallen out of love with the 20" unfortunately but the 18" is awesome!
I purchased the crash-ride before seeing this video, and I feel very affirmed. It's going to sound great in the studio! It also came with the 15" hats, and I have Zildjian crashes that I rather like... hopefully the darkness of those will be able to balance with the brightness of the crashes. I'd LOVE to not have to drop another couple hundred bucks to get these dark crashes.
Before I saw this video I was real anti meinl I thought all the cymbals they made were weird and after seeing this I now have an 18 and 19 inch custom classic crashes
Good morning everyone! I hope that you guys are having a wonderful and blessed day. Please be safe and all of your endeavors and have fun and whatever you do, Pikachu yourselves and each other, take care and God bless! Peace out everybody! 💚
I wish this video was around when I was trying to find a video of someone playing punk with these. Please do more reviews of gear while playing punk. It's a niche market, but it'll be appreciated
I guess I bought the "mega" dark classic custom kit... My 8 cymbal kit came with that 22in crash/ride, 16in hi-hat, 18in and 19in crashes, 18in trash china, 16in trash stacker (my favorite sounding cymbal out of the pack) 12in trash splash, and some other 18in regular China. I dont use all of them but to me they arent as heavy as some cymbals. At first the studio engineer said no till he heard them and he too fell in love with the 16in trash stack cymbals. Also I keep my cymbals a decent distance away from my tom mics to keep the bleedthrough down since they are loud. But I find the sound is projected. I look at Amazon and they have them for $1,200 sometimes or $1,600. I got them for much cheaper but I'm super happy with them. They are unique, I get compliments on the road. Plus aside from just using a lint cloth theres not much in the way of cleaning them.
