Trying out some Vintage Hero Aftershave by Prince Matchabelli, from the late 1980’s that I picked up from eBay. I saw the aftershave in Mel Gibson’s Lethal Weapon 2 movie and realized I hadn’t seen that aftershave in over 20 years.

Haha, me too. Just started to migrate from G. Mach3 and very quickly got stringed on Kens channel. And i like his videos from the first moment. Funny thing that i've got to this video thanks to Mel and Ken is using these Astra blades which was Czech brand at 80-90s (like i am :-) ). Then it was sold to Gillete and they started to manufacture in Russia.

Hi Ken I know this is an old video, but i wanted to share that my wife bought me a Black Beauty, 1969, for my Birthday this year. Hope I didn't damage it as I adjusted the setting while the butterfly was closed...(Yikes). Loved the shave and praying I can use it again. Always good to see i have some old school / vintage razors in my small collection. Keep well and stay safe Sir.

I used to live in So Pasadena a long time ago. Mel was filming in my neighborhood and chatted with him over the course of a few days. Film was called Forever Young. Nice guy.

Hi Ken, great tribute shave. Those Mel Gibson clips brought back some good memories. I'm sure that you won't regret buying a Rockwell 6S. The only regret that I have is that it has really made all of my other razors redundant. It gives such a smooth, irritation free shave that when matched with a really good soap (Eufros or Mitchell's Wool Fat) you question why you would want to use anything else. I look forward to seeing you use it.

Kensurfs I use setting 5 with zero pressure and so far every new blade I have used has given a fantastic shave (so far I have used Gillette Wilkinson Sword, Gillette 7 O'clock, Feather, Astra and Nacet)You don't get much audible feedback but I think that is due to the solid stainless steel build and the fact that the blade is held so securely. I can do a 3 pass shave plus touch-ups if I want to, irritation free - I don't usually need to as two passes plus touch-ups usually gives me BBS. Enjoy!

Yeah, me too. The images are scaled up a bit. I have a question, shaving related. I was thinking of treating myself this month with a Merkur Progress long handle or a Merkur Futur. Which one of these would you recommend and why?

Great video. It'll rain in Chicago on Thursday, but not for long as the snow and freeze comes back the next day. It's warming up here a little bit after a period of extreme cold and freeze that impacted the North. I don't watch Mel Gibson movies that much, but I saw a movie he directed which was the Passion of the Christ. His career went on a downward spiral after an incident in 2006, but you don't seem to care about it no matter if people still like him despite his attitude. The Tabac is on my wishlist as it will fall victim to my shaving soap shopping spree

Good one, Ken. I remember the good old days of early cable, where the same Mad Max movie would be on constantly. Tabac is definitely an interesting scent. You either like it or don't. It reminds me a lot of my childhood, when on Sunday, my mom would tell me to run over to the club and tell your father that dinner was ready. It would be me and like 3 kids waiting outside. Once in a while they'd tell us to come in and give us a coke why the dad's finished whatever "business" they were conducting. Anyway, my point was that the smell that would hit you as you walked in was varied colognes, tobacco, smoke and Italian food.... lol A mature yet interesting smell...

I see that you enjoy Pierre Cardin.. you should track down a bottle of the original Matchabelli Aftershave. Very simple.. sandalwood, lemon and leather. But oh, it's heavenly... PC is close, but try to track this one down, you won't regret it. I was lucky to find one in a thrift shop.

Good morning Ken! I think I can separate Mel Gibson...the person vs. the characters he plays in movies. I do like some of his movies...my favorites are: Forever Young, Air America, We Were Soldiers, Braveheart. I don't remember the Hero aftershave. The Tabac shaving soap like water and your lather looks like it need a touch more water, but if it works... The Gillette Super Adjustable performs very well with Astra SP blades and delivers close and comfortable shaves each time I use it. Thanks for sharing Ken. Take care.
