Late summer 1988 interview on UK TV show 'Good Morning Britain' on TV-am. Mel & Kim talk about Mel's battle with cancer, and their future plans. This is possibly Mel's last TV appearance before she passed away in January 1990.
23 was much too young to lose your life how unfair. She had everything going for her; young, beautiful and successful. RIP Mel ❤ you will never be forgotten.
Being a Hackney boy, one thing that really impressed me with Mel & Kim is that despite their huge success they didn’t change. Just two gorgeous down to earth girls having a great time in the limelight. It’s so sad that Mel was robbed of her life at such a young age.
They look stunning with their hair short. They have great bone structure and their really beautiful faces and so sad that one girl died of cancer. Rest in peace, baby.
Even watching this interview all these years on, still brings a lump to my throat thinking of Mel losing her battle. She really was gorgeous and had such a filthy laugh. I am sorry she was taken so soon. Lovely Mel, always remembered. if anyone is to take anything from this is that tomorrow is never promised for any of us
Melanie Susan Appleby will never get old like we did. Mel is eternal, just like our love for her. What beautiful, talented, humble and brave ladies. Respect(able). Xox
Mel and Kim were one of the best acts in the 80's. I remember crying for ages after Mel died. Two very talented singers who had their careers cut shut by a cruel illness.
I'm aware of what happened to Mel, but this is the first time I've seen these interviews & I've got tears in my eyes. Bless her. I hope she's up there singing her little heart out. Gone never forgotten.💖😢
It breaks my heart. They made absolute bangers of tunes. I was only about 9 when they were in the charts but I would have loved to have been able to dance to their stuff in clubs.
A lovely brave lady who was an inspiration . I have just had surgery for cancer , thankfully I did not need chemo & have been told I am in the clear but until you experience something like that you cannot begin to understand how it feels to be told you have the illness so I can empathise with her . Mel was a beautiful , down to earth person with a lot of talent . Only the good die young so they say . RIP Mel , you are missed very much .
The energy splashes off the screen : such nice, enthousiastic, beautiful ladies, full of energy, full of plans ... how unfair can it be ? RIP Melanie, was a huge fan of the smashing hits & dance moves ...
They never learn Busty. Savages the press. Nearly cried watching this. How can it happen to someone so full of life and so young? Cancer can do one! Bastard thing. RIP Mel xxx
She was a fighter till the end, I was teenager and I adored them, thinking they were twins. 29 years later and still know all the songs and dancing movements. Damn cancer, always takes the good ones.
Just watching Top Of The Pops: The Story Of 1987. I see the videos and tunes and it brings lots of great memories of my late teenage years. We partied to your time with beautiful people all around. Thanks for the great tunes. May your sister's beautiful soul continue to rest in the bosom of the Lord🙏🏿. London E10 reprezentin'!
No it wouldn't! They were already on a chart decline when Mel's cancer came about. However, that doesn't detract from Mel and her suffering. For that, may she rest in peace!
They weren't on a chart decline. They weren't able to make a proper video for 'F.L.M.' or 'That's the Way It Is', which was no doubt a factor in why they didn't perform as well on the chart as the first two singles. But they were still hits, and both went top 10 in the UK, with virtually no promotion.
@@glenp6301 Of course they were!! Their first two hits went top 3. However, FLM reached number 7 and That's the way it is only reached number 10. My prediction is, they would have had another "good" album in them, which would probably not as been successful as the first one. Then disappeared into oblivion like most pop acts do. Don't get me wrong, i did actually like them. However, the Beatles or the Rolling Stones they certainly were not!
God bless you Mel. You were truly an inspiration to us all. You bore your illness with great courage. My you live forever in our hearts. Sadly missed to this day. 💔
Thank you again for sharing this video. They looked great with the short hair and even if Mel was seriously ill, she was so beautiful... I can't believe she died a year later...
Love their attitude, even when talking about something so seriuos we still get to hear that infectious laugh of hers! I love the fact that they didn't care whether they had any further success as Mel & Kim and were only interested in Mel being well. proper stars!! not the fame hungry stars of today! Loved em! Still do x x
Poor little Mel, I remember Respectable comining out in '87, It always reminds me of going for heart surgery in march '87, then I remember a few years later her dying of cancer 😢
2:15-2:23 Mel's face makes me sad as i can feel the pain showing on her face.thank you ssssssssoooooo much for this .... also prior to the wogan interview which was the last one ever Mel and kim Forever
I remember when their song "Respectable" was first released, if my memory serves me right it was about the late 80's....1988, or so......yeah I'm an 80's guy, and proud of it.
Wow, thanks for posting this great interview. I loved and still love Mel & Kim. They we're the greatest!!! In the 80's no one was singing live, but Mel & Kim could really sing live. They have strong vocals. But that's not the most importent thing. Cause their S.A.W. tunes needed to be heared in the clubs very loud. Melanie, I still think about you. And Kim, you are the best.
I'll be honest - I cried through the whole interview. I love Mel & Kim. They were a great team. And I only learned yesterday that Mel was one of my favorite girls from Mayfair and Players magazines (nudes). I just never out the two together. She was so beautiful and sexy. This video makes me very sad. She was so young and talented and I know that it really hurt Kim. It shows in later interviews with her. There will never be another like them and certainly isn't today. They were awesome! Luv them
Reminds me of my best friend Beverly and also became to be my sister in-law, God Bless you Bev ,this just reminds me off us at Joplins ,Drumkeen ,Belfast, Miss you my friend x.
Loved their music, they looked great danced great and had superb hits, cant believe it's been 32 years since we lost lovely Mel. Definitely no justice in the world.
Even if mel had lost some of her looks those girls could have still been huge like mega successful. Just glad to have been there during those few years in the 80s...... Just found out the hit "Thats the Way it is" was their take on Mels cancer........a what a superb tune. I miss them even though Kym is still flying the flag.
On the bright side..Mel & Kim released nothing but amazing singles. But seriously...Anne Diamond..”is one of the down sides losing your looks”?!? What a fucking thing to ask a cancer patient.
I was such a huge fan and I ad no idea until she was gone. I heard ridiculous rumours that she had been in a car accident and then later died. It wasn’t actually until 2 days ago that i found these girls on Spotify and danced around my room that i realised she actually died from cancer …..this made me so upset because how horrible would it be to have just started in your career and be soooo young and then have your death sentence. I will always fondly remember these girls from my childhood and that’s what counts they made their mark and left amazing memories….. broke the mould …pushed boundaries.
My friend has got blood cancer, he’s 66 all is organs are now affected similar to Leukaemia, he hangs on with chemotherapy, blood tests and tablets, to loose Melanie so young 29 years ago was so-so sad 😔.
