@Costa Zambaras Jerome and Reggie were great together if Jerome lived and they played together longer no doubt greatest d lineman duo ever both passed way to early they died young and its sad Jerome at 27 and Reggie early 40s
Akeem Olajuwon had declared for the 1984 NBA Draft four days before the 1984 NFL Draft. Michael Jordan wound up declaring for the 1984 NBA Draft a month later.
If the Giants took Reggie White back then, we would've had more quarterbacks with career injuries and half of those quarterbacks would've been in heaven. The other half would've been in the hospital and probably would never play again. I think one of them would've wrote a book on facing against Lawrence Taylor and Reggie White. Also, the Giants would be the team of the late 80's and mid 90's. It wouldn't be the 49ers and it wouldn't be the Dallas Cowboys and I think Bill Parcells would've retired as a Giants head coach and Bill Belicheck probably would've been head coach somewhere else and not starting out with the Cleveland Browns. So really the Giants picking Reggie White would've caused a huge shift in the NFL.
If I had to coach a game against reggie white and Lawrence Taylor on the same defense if go goalline every play because that's the only way id have enough blockers to keep my quarterback alive by the end of the game
Sam Smorcington Stephen A has credibility. He was a journalist for 20+ year before he made it on the big stage. Get the facts before you haphazardly name drop.
Quarterbacks and the rest of the league should be VERY LUCKY that LT and Reggie White weren't teammates. Just the thought of those two coming off the edge would have been frightening
With the 3rd pick the "New York Giants" select...... Akeem Olajuwon ..!! That cracks me up for some silly reason....Thank you "some Lady"@ 1984 nfl draft..!!!
0:13 how many passes would Olajuwon had batted down if he played on defense in the NFL? Or if he were on offense, who would have been able to contest him for jumpballs?
Mel Kiper said Matt Stafford would be the first overall pick when he was in his senior year... in high school. The guy knows what he’s doing. He gets some players wrong, but the unfortunate thing for him is that his faults are highlighted.
It's funny to me how you can see in this video how real NFL coaches, and GM's, and players, and even respected journalists clearly don't even respect Mel Kiper or take him seriously. One of the main reasons why I've never watched ESPN on draft day.
At 2:28, Hall of Fame, Super Bowl Champ, and AFC Title champion GM Bobby Beathard was right. Mel Kiper isn’t a talent evaluator. He’s “Mel Ass-Wiper, Fraudulent Evaluator.” At least Daniel Jeremiah was a scout with tape evaluation skills.
I think if the Giants would have taken White we would be talking 1 of thee best defense of all time ( better 85 bears ) p.s. don't forget Todd McShay is no better than Mel Kiper this whole combined thing today has gotten way out of hand and all these mock drafts....when in doubt go DEFENSE especially LB...
Jesus (White) and Lucifer (LT) on the same team, with Satan (Belichick) calling the shots ? Only way to be safe for offenses: goalline formations the entire game.
Um. Gary Zimmerman is a hall of fame tackle. He won a super bowl as well. The giants didnt use him like the Vikings n Broncos. Its the giants fault n not his, so i dont get how it sounds like he was a jamarcus Russell pick
Um, did you not listen? Zimmerman never played in New York b/c he forced them to trade him. They say here he didn't want to play in New York, but the truth is he didn't want to play on the East Coast. They also mentioned that he is a HoFer.
The Giants did the right thing drafting Banks. Brad Van Pelt was 33 going into the 84 season, he was play until 1986. Brian Kelly was also 33. Both did not play the 84 season with the Giants. It looks like Kelly retired, because his stats end at the 1983 season. Van Pelt went to the Raiders for the 84 season, stayed another year, went to the Clowns, and then retired. Banks was still playing, and a starter for the Giants SB team that beat the Bills. So, it seems as though the Giants knew that Kelly was going to retire, or had already retired. And maybe they cut Van Pelt in training camp.
