If that's even true. I think the story is total BS. Do I think ultra deep volcanic tube holes exist? Yes it's totally possible. Do i think they have paranormal properties and are even 1/8 of 80,000 feet deep? Hell no! But I think there might be or have been a deep hole where they said it was.
Deep in the African Congo there are reports of a large semi aquatic half elephant half dragon beast to some known as Mokele Mbembe. Look it up reports by Europeans go back to at least 1776 the local Africans thousands of years looking into if you do desire.
Art Bell entertained us long haul truck drivers for many years. We laughed with him when he superglued himself on the air repairing a CD tray. We cried with him over his losses. We missed him following his retirement.
I am not a trucker, but I listened to him too when I was younger, absolutely loved him and how well he hosted his show. When I went to college my abnormal psychology teacher use to play some of the more strange ones and then discuss if a the person was telling the truth (even if they are misinformed) and if the person suffered from mental illness or not. His wife was my radio broadcast professor as well and she mentioned him about how good he was at not just hosting but how well he produced his shows, nearly by himself. I got to thinking about it as I got older they both enjoyed him and they had completely different reasons .
I cannot add to or detract from Mel's Hole, but I will tell you this. While stationed at F.t Lewis Washington (1985-1991), I spent about 4-6 months a year maneuvering around Yakima Firing Center. In 1988 as a Staff Sergeant, my tank was sent to an area near a silica mine recon north of Umptanum Ridge. I thought it odd that only one tank was sent to do this. While traveling about 15-20 mph down a flat trail, I was standing chest high out of the commanders hatch scanning the open terrain. Suddenly, our tank (M60A3) was rocked so violently that I was thrown out of the hatch and my CVC flew off my head. The event felt and sounded like Thor had swung his massive hammer and hit the side of our tank. So intense was this event that my driver stopped immediately, which fortunately allowed me to recover and not be thrown off the turret onto the ground. Everyone was yelling at the driver asking what he had hit because we had all heard the almost bell sounding strike as we were violently shook and thrown around. My driver shut the engine down and we all dismounted the tank and walked around it and then walked the trail finding nothing. Trying to rationalize the event we blamed a mechanical failure of the suspension or something for the event. We got out tools and began to inspect torsion bars, shocks, and track components for something broken only to come up empty. Unto this day I have no rational explanation for what happened. My lieutenant never questioned what took so long and we never volunteered an explanation. I have tried to explain it away as a subterranean fault slipped and we heard the sound and received the shock wave which shook us so violently. I even considered that Rangers, SF who train in the area, or the Army's NATIC technology group fired some type of sonic weapon at our tank. I still wonder today what happened
As a young man in my 20's I used to work as a janitor in a very, very large church building that literally took up an entire city block in an old Mid-west downtown area. Many late nights well after dark I would listen to Art Bell while making my rounds.... That remains one of the most wonderfully terrifying experiences of my life.
On a Military Exercise in 1984 at Yakima Firing Range my fellow airman and me found a large seemingly bottomless hole on the range about 20 ft across. We threw rocks into it and never heard a reply... We were just happy no one fell into it, but it had no sides... crazy!
Was it the type of hole you could notice at a distance? Or easily miss just wondering not too close too it that you would just not even see it because it sits so slow in like grass or something?
Art Bell was the best. A true game-changer, can't miss radio. What a loss. The only thing worse than Art Bell's death, is Art Bell's passing and George Noory living.
@@showtime951 Right. I can't stand what Noory has done to Art Bell's show. All he does is sell his damned live performances, and constantly talking over the idiotic guests he chooses. Once in a blue moon he will have a physicist on the show, and that's about the only time I want to listen these days.
You're right and I don't trust the government there are true stories where the government allowed people to die because they profited from what they were investigating
@@thorny6021 Then what are the "facts" behind the formation of Life....? The Law of Biogenesis states that it takes life to create life. That living organisms(regardless of size or scale) cannot come from non-living things... The theory is that it rained on rocks for millions of years and formed a "primordial soup" which life spontaneously arose from lol.... Like you said, it's the 21st century, and yet we still are unable to recreate this in any laboratory. The "fact" is that many aspects of science require just as much, if not far more, suspension of disbelief and "Faith" than many religions.
I grew up in this area. Never heard of Mel's Hole but in high school(mid 90s) we would have bonfire parties around something we called the "Hanford Hole". It was large enough to drop a car down it...and we did once. Never heard it hit bottom or send up smoke or anything. The sides of this hole were smooth as glass and perfectly straight and smooth as if a laser from space made it and vitrified(?) The rocks to glass as it did so. I had been telling my fiance about it for a couple years while living in Alaska where she is from. I finally got back to Washington state and was showing her various sites. We made the long drive across the state just show her the 'hole' I had spoke so many times about...and it is now surrounded by a high security fence and razor wire about 60'×60' with government warning signs posted to keep out. Bummer but not surprising. I'm am surprised I haven't heard anything about it over the years. Has anyone else???
Ryan, I haven't heard anything about Hanford Hole, per se. However, your story rings true, and I have no doubts that Hanford's has the same "origins, history, value/reason(s) for it's existence as does Mel's and the New Mexico hole. I'm surprised only that upon your return you found only one security fence. Our government is not to be trusted. There is much about these holes that remain a mystery, due to government involvement - what are they trying to hide?
hey friend! the hanford hole is actually a collapsed nuclear site and the government gated it up because it was radioactive. i believe the hole was filled earlier this year
Man I miss Art! He really made the night shift I worked go so smoothly with me and my co workers. I used to listen to all the ghost to ghost am shows. They were great. Rip Art bell - you are greatly missed brother
Too many good concerts, in front of the speakers?? AC/DC AND Suicidal Tendencies killed my hearing, but it was well worth it!! In a small club, Suicidal was so loud (and of course, amazing and awesome), I KNEW that it would cause me to have ringing in my ears later in life. It didn't matter, I was in the front in front of a wall of amps. And now I have tinnitus. #TheStruggleIsReal 😉😂🤣 #MetalHeadIssues 😈👿😎
Diving down 35m on the south side of king island a local diver showed me an amazing perfect 2m diamiter bored hole going under the island. It looked machined with smooth glass like finish. I wish I'd had a camera to show it . 20 years later I still can't believe its natural
I listened to art from 1995 on I heard all of the shows with mel on it,there was also some scream sounds coming from the opening, sound equipment was sent down a ways, one of them mentioned the opening to hell, now that's it sealed and hidden, the truth will never be shown as usual, sheep need no info
Yeah I don't know if I believe him, but I could listen to someone like him tell stories for ages haha. Did it say he died or something? I didn't see that, but if so RIP indeed.
Especially when he states their plan. It's exactly the NWO Agenda21 plan we've known of for almost 15 yrs before. Aka 'Open Border 1 Global Gov't World Order' (by definition and decades of Democrat policies) Historically the oldest most sinister agenda to ever exist.. and the sole purpose indoctrination exists.
@@t.rok13 Fair enough, I too lean towards a belief a NWO coming to fruition. The problem is so many who talk about it come across as uncreditable and dubious Red Elk is in my opinion a good example. I sensed your scathing sarcasm and it is duly noted
I remember when I heard this broadcast over 20 years ago. I was working 3rd shift in a gas station. So happy to get to hear it again. Thanks for posting this. Lots of memories. Like freaking out the 3AM bathroom weirdo lady by splattering chocolate syrup all over the commode right before her "scheduled" visit! Priceless!
I live in Yakima and I've seen Mel's hole. I drove my klr650 up into the manashtash area heading over Ellensburg pass down into the wenas. Well, as I was riding I had to take a leak so I drove for a bit until I came to an old logging road that headed off into the woods. I followed it for a while , about 1/2 mile, when it ended in a clearing. I got off my bike and walked into the brush a bit and took a leak. As I was heading back to my bike I heard a strange sound like a soft bleating. Well, I slowly crept toward the sound when I came to another smaller clearing and in the middle of it was a hole about 10 feet by 10 feet. I carefully looked into it and could see no bottom. I threw a few small rocks in but couldn't here them hit bottom. I looked for something bigger to toss in and saw an old engine block laying next to the edge so I rolled it in. The thing that happened next scared the crap out of me, a large goat shot out of the brush rushed past me and jumped straight into the hole!!! I sat there stunned by what I just saw, it's probably why I never heard the old Mexican gentleman walk up beside me and say hello. I said hi, too stunned to say anything else, then he asked me a question I'll never forget. He said "hey mister, have you seen my goat? I had him tied to an old engine block here"?
My friend and fellow gold miner Charlie Sherpinski was in Mel's hole years ago. He lowered himself down in it on a rope but the rope wasn't near long enough. Want to find it? Look for the foundation of Central Washington university old observatory. It's in the area below that. Charlie said the government built a barn like structure over it and a chain link fence around that with nasty warning signs on it. I think the reason the observatory was demolished is it was too close to Mel's hole and the government didn't want curious college kids around it. I know Red Elk and his fairey tales about the place. For years people from Ellensburg used to throw their old refrigerators and washing machines down the hole just to listen to them go out of earshot.

Don't U love how the 'experts' dismiss it- yet have never seen it?!!.. what closed minds some people have... I believe Mel Waters to be a truthful man, and when animals are terrified of something- I listen..
Red Elk lesson as shared on Art Bell,, "To learn how to fly,, start jumping on your bed and forget to fall." ........... Mel and Red Elk were some of my favorite guests of Art's... Great listening, wonderful stories..
Oh god I remember that original broadcast. I lived in eastern Washington then, in a town called elk. I always wondered if anyone ever found it. I also looked on the satellite maps back then and saw that big white square. Pretty weird story though.
It exists.I was in Seattle Jan 2019 with work just before the pandemic kicked off. A work colleague from Ellensberg asked me to come out for a night to meet his family and see the town.I did, its a really nice place. We went for a spin in the evening time to go for a small hike as we both like nature. When we got back to the jeep, it wouldnt start and there was this really strange smell. I didnt think much of it but my work colleague started getting really anxious which made me in turn very anxious. He began to explain that there was a lot unexplained happenings and urban legends about the area. We left the van and literally ran all the way down these dirt roads to a main road. It was so eerie, you could here a pin drop, no cars, no birds, no bees, nothing. Edit:meant to be Jan 2020
Mel's Hole appears on Google Earth. If it was covered before, it is not now. It is about 8 feet in diameter and situated 10 miles north by northwest of Ellensburg, WA.
The buy out part intrigued me. If you know the story of Skinwalker Ranch in the Uinta basin the Sherman ranch is one of the most paranormal places in the world. Bob Bigelow bought the ranch and spent 4 million bucks doing research on the property. After seeing his results the DIA of the US Government then spent an additional 21 million to make sure that the phenomenon was not a security risk for the country. I saw an interview with an Army general who was asked about what he thought it was that causes all the anomalies found at the ranch and he said all he knew was it is a highly intelligent force that was one or two steps ahead of them at all times.
@@cahg3871 I’m with CAHG don’t say I heard an interview if you can’t point us in the direction of the same one. Example. I was in the army 11bravo to be exact and a general of mine that once worked at Area 51 told me, there’s little green aliens all over the place, oh he also stated it in an interview. I feel sorry for you if you believed that without me backing it up.
Hearing Art Bells voice and his C2C music brought back the feeling of hungry excitement i would have, driving home from work and 3 bours ahead of me to be titillated with Arts brilliant brain finding exclusive guests and astounding questions!!! Man i loved that guy! So sad we lost him so soon. Apparently, if true, he was a victim of an opiate related accidental OD. John B Welles was a decent substitute for a few years, but has gotten really lazy mentally the last few years. I wish he would get out of his slump and get back to being what the Great Art Bell was...AMAZING.
Was working 3rd. shift and listening to Art Bell the night he did this interview with Mel.Actually Art interviewed Mel maybe 5/6 times.Watching this video about it brings back memories.
How am I just hearing about this? I live about 30 minutes away from Ellensburg, in Yakima Washington. I've been listening to Art Bell for about 3 years, and haven't ever heard that broadcast, talking about Mel's hole. That's so crazy. Art Bell's radio shows, are some of the greatest things to ever play out of a radio. The guy was a genius in my opinion, and it's so sad that he's no longer with us.
I followed the Mel's Hole story from Art Bell way back, the seizure by the Government, Mel getting a lot of money, and even moving out of the US for a little while...
He's a pretendian. White people gotta stop believing anyone who says they're some sort of "Indian medicine man"...he has continually refused to name what tribe(s) he's from, he's claimed specious "connections" that can't be proven....really, this is the dude who swears there are goat-footed people under Mt. I remember listening to this original telecast. Art changed my world. Sounded like one big fish story. People always wants to get on with the Late Great Art Bell and tell a story!

Oh yeah! I know of a place in Northern Arizona, not far from the Grand Canyon & near Mount Trumbull called the Ice caves and is known by very few people. I've been there a few times and it's a very Rocky area where there are several caves, some small and some very very deep that keep going down. I have a few brave older cousins that climbed so far down they reached beach sand and finally stopped climbing down. I honestly don't think anyone knows how far down they go! Very interesting place and a very ancient place the native Americans knew about no doubt because arrow heads can be found all around the area.
I remember listening to art bell from coast to coast radio talk show in 1997 in my tractor trailer, Mel was on that night...and talking about a hole that his father showed him back in the 1940s on there land...and mel father said the hole was evil...and that you could throw anything down the hole and never hear it hit bottom...he also said that he throw a old washing machine down the hole and never heard it hit bottom, and told mel to stay away from it unless he was with him.
Kaumana Caves Park is a 25-mile long lava tube that was created by a 1881 flow from Mauna Loa. You can explore the caves a short way in both directions before the lava tube enters private property. There are about 2 miles of lava tube here that are accessible to the public.
Yeah. I've got one of those in my backyard. It only opens up sometimes. It is in the middle of what I thought was an old grave. I asked police to investigate the grave, they brought the cadaver dogs but couldn't detect anything. Later on the hole appeared. I dropped a rock in it, and it was bouncing round for ages before I couldn't hear it any more. Most the time it's closed-up. I have no idea why it opens when it does.
I saw the most amazing thing just north of Ellensburg late one night in about maybe 1996 or so and now I'm sure it had to do with that hole. What I saw was an amazing, natural but totally contrived atmospheric spectacle: As I headed up the hill towards Yakima something caught my eye. It was like the clouds were moving really funny and were pretty bright. I pulled over and got out to see. These clouds then formed a huge white dome that went west to east and just this alone was amazing. I also noticed that over the whole valley there were these pitch black clouds, charcoal black clouds also from west to east. And as I stood there some of those black clouds began to form above me. Then, I saw a shaft of black light, like the charcoal clouds (I call them spirit clouds) shoot up through the center of the white dome. It looked like a search light except the light was black. So at this point it was like an old style speedometer in a car with the needle, the black shaft, in the middle. Then, after a minute or two, the bla k shaft moved all the way to the left and as it did the dome turned black where the shaft had moved. So now the dome is half black and half white. Then the black shaft returned to the center, point straight up and when it did the black spirit clouds that were all around the whole valley began moving toward and going down the black shaft into the earth kinda like stuff being sucked down a drain. After all the spirit clouds had gone the whole thing dissipated and the night sky looked normal again. There was one black spirit cloud that remained and followed me more than half way back to Yakima. I have never heard of a story like this until just now when, in the Mel story a "shaft of black light" was mentioned which prompted me to recount my experience. I've never told it before in part because I had no idea what to make of it myself. Ellensburg is a cow town and thought perhaps excess methane in the air might be the culprit but I knew that that would in no way account for the contrivance of what I saw. If anyone has seen things similar to this in the Ellensburg area I'd like to hear about it. Thanks.
From all the stories I think the hole is what I theorized it to be from the start. A dimension made of dark matter and dark energy. The shaft turned the cloud black and I assume that's dark energy the shaft is made of because dark matter bends light, the two shall never meet. Photons when traveling will be distorted around dark matter if it encounters it. Spirit clouds is a good name for them. I believe the black clouds to be of the 4th dimension so it does contain malevolent beings with intelligence that are beyond the vail. My comprehension is too hard to put into words, I hope what I made sense here, but the rest of what I think is simply too hard for me to verbalize as it's a comprehension.
Thank you Sean for sharing your experience with us. Must have been an awesome sight to see, no matter what created it, natural or other worldly. My experience in life was limited to watching two large water spouts during a powerful storm as I sat near the coastline chatting on my cb radio (The water makes a perfect ground plane for transmitting). They both twisted and turned around each other as if dancing. But even just that tiny bit of seeing mother nature in action was absolutely incredible. Can only imagine what you saw on such a large scale would have been like.
I live in a tiny Town west of Yakima called tampico. I've been to Mel's hole once and I'll never go back. A few years ago I took my klr650 out towards the wenas and followed an old road for several miles looking for Manashtash lake. Well, after several miles on this old road I noticed an even older road branching off of it, so I took it. After about 1 1/2 miles the road ended so I parked my bike and walk into the woods to look around and take a leak. I came to a clearing and in the middle of it was a circular hole. I walked up to it and looked down into it, it appeared bottomless. I got a very creepy vibe in the vicinity of the hole. I wanted to see how deep it was so I searched around and behind a clump of bushes right by the hole was an old engine block. I rolled the block a few times and it tumbled into the pit. As I lay listening to see if it had hit bottom I heard a crashing in the brush behind me and as a look of terror crossed my face a goat raced out of the brush behind me, flew across the clearing, and jumped right into the hole!!! As I lay there stunned by what I had just seen I heard another sound coming through the brush again. I prepared my self for the worst fearing what might step out. Then out steps an old Mexican man who looks around the clearing and then at me and then he says " hey amigo, have you seen my goat? It was tied up to an engine block right here."
i believe the first whole then mel came back to arts show talking about a second hole he was shown down in Nevada. it was an amazing story but VERY hard to believe. but i do believe the first hole here in Washington exists
Our cat musta found Mel's hole. She had been gone at least 4 years and just appeared on our doorstep before Christmas. She was skin & bones. Sadly she passed away last night. I guess she came home to die. The saddest thing I have ever experienced.
That's wild that UW made this video on the hole 😆! All I know is the first time I ever stumbled upon Coast 2 Coast AM on 1170AM I heard Mel talking about the hole and how it was in Washington State and I saw the censorship on Microsoft's Terra server the next day! Been listening to Coast ever since that day over 20 years ago!
The people going out of their way to criticize something that they have little knowledge of always trip me out. IT is like the people who insist big foot is not real, yet they have never stepped foot deep into the forest. I think Red Elk was brutally honest, but this scares people. Truth is stranger than fiction
These are the spirits of the fallen angels and their nephilim offspring. Some are chained in the abyss who will be released from within the hollow earth. This is prophecy and will indeed happen at some point.
I've been there, located just north of Ellensburg just off a public road. It's just an old mine shaft with the head frame missing. I've seen dozens of these things in WA, ID and MT. This little video is all hype.
The only road into this area is the dirt road up to the radio tower complex. It’s a locked gate and posted no trespassing. I have hunted this area (30 years ago) and it’s very rough and rocky.
No, I listen to him for years and then George Noory for a while and I heard. Male talk about his hole and stuff like that. I've forgotten a lot of what they said, Art Bell was able to supply us with some Mysteries and some fun. I enjoyed his show at night on nights. I couldn't sleep I would lay there and listen to it. It was pretty interesting a lot of the time. I'm not going to say I believed everything that came across that show, but it was a lot of fun listening. . And I know a lot of people would call in and they have some fun, too. Anyway, he'll be missed. I miss him already. But I haven't listened to Coast to Coast for quite a while my radio broke. I got to get a new one. .
Looked up Mel's Hole on WIkipedia and it redirected me to Devil's Hole and then to the Devil's Hole Pupfish. Would recommend looking into the fish. Very cute, not terrifying, fascinating exampe of life in extreme circumstances, and actually real.
I listened to the entire interview on Art Bell recently. It feels like this guy is mixing fact with fiction, embellishing parts of it to make the story sound interesting
I remember hearing about this and then it just disappeared off the news.... I remember trying to get friends together to go on a road trip to go see it. Never happened and forgot about that. Too bad 6 States away now otherwise I would try and go back
This video just started playing after something else I was watching and it was good! I've always lived in the east coast so I never heard of this hole! Do I believe? Well after watching this as the man said"Some will wonder " that's me! Nice job!!
I found the barn at 6:44 and the mountain faces at 7:25 on Google maps. The coordinates are at the bottom of this comment. He's heading west on Manastash Rd and the 2 locations are approximately 6.5 miles apart. In the video where he's at the entrance, you can hear water flowing and there's a creek that runs alongside those mountain faces. I'm trying to find the road that he's on when he's at the actual entrance, but there's not a lot of street view locations off the main road so it's hard. I'm sure it's around there though, we can see their direction of travel and I've matched the other 2 visuals in the video successfully. A few important points surrounding the entrance to help find it if anyone wants to help me from here: 1. It's on a white gravel road 2. There's very luscious vegetation surrounding it 3. It seems to be part way, or most of the way up a hill or a mountain - Very dark or black in colour 4. There are trees bordering the driveway 5. The driveway goes very abruptly to the right and uphill 6. Across the road from the entrance, there seems to be either a white sign or a fence (7:14) 6:44 Coords (use street view at): 46°58'16.21"N 120°36'38.97"W 7:25 Coords (street view): 46°57'58.84"N 120°44'37.02"W
I've been studying this off and on for about 10 years, and have been pleasantly surprised on several trips up near Umtanum falls and Manastash ridge to find how vast and difficult this area is to search accurately considering the respect for government property, private property, road laws, and seasonal fire closures. I've personally seen the black beams coming from this area, whether they are more closely related to the Yakima Firing range or Mel's hole is still up in the air for me. Now when I am out hiking in these areas between Manastash Lake and Umtanum Falls area I'm actually more not wanting to find something weird like this if it really exists, since the consequences of stumbling across an anomaly like this would not go unnoticed to whoever may be guarding this secret. To even test if it were the real hole, you would have to throw something down it or have a rope several hundred feet long just to verify that it may be the hole. I don't think very many people hike with enough fishing line or rope to even test the validity of any well or hole that may be found in this area. Without a government sanctioned permit or private property ownership release waiver, no one would legally be able to test it if found either. Then of course, many people would not want an anomaly like this to exist if found since it would refute their paradigm on local/"global" geology. What's the explanation of Carlsbad caverns and the Kola super deep. These holes or natural caves are still only permitted to be looked at or studied by certified experts.
Before you laugh about this hole, true or not, it's worth mentioning Hanford (the biggest nuclear reservation in the world) is only about an hour or so east of this area. The Gov't chose that area for very specific reasons and came in and literally kicked people out of their houses in the small towns that were anywhere close to the site. Eastern Washington is a very interesting place. Ellensburg is also very close to the Cascade mountain range as well, home to the majority of bigfoot sightings. There could be something to this hole, it wouldn't surprise me at all.
Enjoyed the video! Saw someone in the commments section of a Bedtime Stories (A channel on RU-vid here) talking about this as a suggestion for a vid. Decided to look it up and found this vid. If the claims about the land being taken are true then that is strange. I don't know enough about the situation to comment whether or not I believe it, but it's always interesting to watch stuff like this. I'm a sucker for stuff in the vein of unsolved mysteries or paranormal stories. I think there are too many stories out there to discredit everything people claim they are seeing. I'm not sure what people are seeing or experiencing, but I believe that they are not just crazy.
I remember hearing that episode on art bell . Why would that guy lie about that and why would all of a sudden that big piece of land be taken by the military?? Even now it's blurred out on Google maps.
Man tells stories from his ancestors passed on through the generations Woman laughs at stories from the man, calls them crazy because she's lived there for 23 years...
one story I heard was many years ago before Mel owned the land some explores found it. out of curiosity they wanted to explore it. so they tied one guy to an extra long rope and the other 2 lowered the guy down with an oil lamp for light. they lowered the rope for a while and was shocked and how far it went. thinkin no cave could be that deep. suddenly the felt a tugging on the rope ( the sign there was a problem). as the guy on the rope got closer to the top the other 2 could hear loud screaming. once on the top the guy on the rope look horrified and his hair had turned white from shock. when his friends asked him what was wrong the guy stopped screaming and went catatonic. no one ever found out what he saw because after that the guy never talked again.
I've read this too. That would've been horrifying had this man seen a non-human entity. Especially one that could possibly could on walls like that, and just 'hung out with him, grinning, or staring. I'd be screaming too. Our minds cannot handle things after a certain point, they will shutdown.

Everytime I hear "the government," my first question is "What government?" Was it the city council? The FBI? The Department of the Interior? The State Board of Licencing? Seriously, everyone connected with this story heard "the government" and just left it at that?
Which probably ended up sold to the UN aka NWO headquarters. Just like Yellowstone, and other National parks/forests are. Thanks to Democrat Administrations [ironically], since the 70s. Conspiracy theorists are rarely rational and almost never have a realistic grasp on how the world really works, so yeah, they just think of "The Government" and leave it at that. The "New World Order" used to be a popular bogeyman, but now we have "The Deep State" that many of them blame for everything now.
