Mel Tormé & Avro's Big Band - 12 July 1981
Full live concert of American singer Mel Tormé with the AVRO Big Band at the North Sea Jazz Festival 1981 in the Prince Willem Alexander Hall, Congress Centre, The Hague, The Netherlands.
Melvin Howard Tormé (Chicago, 13 September 1925 - 5 June 1999), also kown asThe Velvet Fog, was an American singer, composer, arranger, drummer, actor and author of five books.
Hij wrote the "The Christmas Song" (also known as "Chestnuts Roasting On An Open Fire") with Robert Wells.
This is the repertoire he sang at this beautiful and never broadcast (!) concert:

10- tribute to Ella Fitzgerald with a.o.: 'A Tisket A Tasket A Green and Yellow Basket", "Love For Sale";
11- "Wave".

The joy of singing. This a dream come true, seeing the entire concert for the first time. Perhaps the best concert of the world’s greatest jazzsinger i’ve ever steen. Thank you very much.

That ending on "The Folks Who Live On The Hill" was worth watching the whole show!! Bravo,Mr. Tormé!! The musicians were also spectacular!!!

Torme/O’Day. 2 vocalists that totally understood the chord structures of every tune they sang! That knowledge gave them the freedom to perform the tunes the way they did!

I never followed Mel Torme during my more than 60 years of Jazz. This was a big, a huge mistake. ! I will never forgive myself. I missed one of the very TOP jazz singers of all. I love Jimmy Rushing, Joe Williams, Jimmy Witherspoon, but Mel Torme easily compares with them Somebody else I would compare him with is not a man. It is Diana Krall. So now that I discovered Mr Torme I will look for his records. Many thanks for having uploading this wonderful concert.

メルトお姉さんはすいませんマイク入力うまくカタカナ表示ができません、許してください4歳でデビュー普通の歌い手より20年近く芸歴が長いわけですから、それはもう根っからの芸人根性がしっかりと根付いてる訳ですから、それはもうすごいの一言です絶対にお客さんを100%満足して帰ってもらう精神が人1倍強さが感じられます表情、歌い方にまで隅々に染み込んでいます日本の歌い手さんも見習って精進してもらいたいですねその暁には日本ももっと素晴らしいエンターテイメントが開けるでしょうまだ遅くはありません努力してくださいそうすれば日本ももっと明るくなるでしょう
