'Melancholia' (later reworked and called 'Ultraviolence') is the third studio album by American singer-songwriter Lana Del Rey, released by Polydor and Interscope Records. Originally dismissing the possibility of releasing another record after her major-label debut Born to Die (2012), Del Rey began planning its follow-up in 2013. Production continued into 2014, at which time she heavily collaborated with Dan Auerbach to revamp what she initially considered to be the completed record. The album saw additional contributions from producers such as Paul Epworth, Greg Kurstin, Daniel Heath, and Rick Nowels, and features a more guitar-based sound than Del Rey's previous releases.

I truly don’t understand why the Grammy people won’t give this woman her props. Look, it may not be your type of music, but this music is so complex and original, I don’t see how they couldn’t at least award her for being so innovative as an artist. We just don’t have artists like this. She is the female Kurt Cobain. Dare I say, even more original, as Kurt took a lot from The Pixies and Cheap Trick, Sonic Youth etc the artists he admired. Who sounds like Lana? Who, tell me? No one..except Lana. That is a major accomplishment in itself. Sry I’m rambling but it’s true.

Living legend is on blue bannisters, pink champagne is changed to ‘let me love you like a woman’ on chemtrails over the country club and old money made it on ultraviolence! Im so glad she redid some of these songs and released them

Wow this is my first time hearing most of these unreleased tracks and I’m blown away. I am a ride or die UV fan but… this is awesome and I hope we get some of these as releases in the future. The lyrics of melancholia are so tongue and cheek and less intense/ominous than what we got for Ultraviolence as a track.

I fell in love with this list last spring, and honestly, it is collectively, definitively. The Best compilation of Lana songs there is available to listen to. Once I found it, I was listening to it every night obsessively. Every song was so captivating and gorgeous. Ultra-badass. Regardless of being outtakes. I was devastated when it was taken down, but thankfully, it's returned. The whole playlist captures what now feels like a bit of a bigone era, but in a whole new light/experience. It's nostalgic of the Ultraviolence era, yet unfamiliar and therefore new, exciting and very profoundly beautiful to listen to. Madly has to be my fave. Though I adore every fucking song. 💜🖤 Ultraviolence still serving 10 years later.

the melancholia intro really reminds me of the blue jeans orchestral intro she has in her music videos, its amazing but maybe that's why it was scrapped.
