I feel this song because it’s about standing up for yourself and not letting anyone and anything destroy your self-esteem. With the chorus “Don’t battle with my larynx tonight” emphasises the importance of protecting one’s voice and not letting others dominate it. This song also criticises those who talk without thinking which is suggesting that they are superficial and they lack substance. From my thoughts, this song sounds like it’s written about 2 different conflict styles - one person who yells a bunch of nothing loudly and tries to intimidate, whilst the other is calm and concisely use their words and wit to prove their point. 🤍🕯️

Oftentimes, quieter people have the upper ground because they observe and listen. “I’ll wreck you, if you chase me” means that if she feels targeted then she can defeat someone with her words. On the other hand, louder people often yell while throwing out insults that they don’t even mean or think about. I love the vibe of this beautiful song 🤍🗡️

This reminds me of fighting with my abusive narc mother and finally getting the courage to stand up for myself. I love you so much Mel.

I almost wish she kept this grungy , raw rock sound consistently in the record because it suits her so damn well. But it’s still an amazing journey of an album to be sure !

Battle of the Larynx is about entitled people and verbal competition, a scream showdown of sorts. People who believe they wield malicious unconquerable power are featureless and dull. She knows their words are uselessly round and will never affect her. Her words are calculated by comparison; and knowing their egocentric behavior, they are sure to be easily wounded. I love this because it's so relatable. It's easy to hear entitled statements from a lot of people you know, and it's annoying oftentimes.

the twirls that her voice has within the song is out of this world. its s captivating! it teleports you into this galactic garden of death, romance ( and by romance i mean, a personal romance. like knowing your darkest areas and taking a dance with them ) heartbreaks , and the knowing of who you were, are and will be. :)

Her whole album is fire. This one, VOID and EVIL are my top favorites. I love her heavy use of drums giving it a Rock feel just so awesome 😊

Melanie is like an other-wordly spiritual goddess, she’s amazing! I love how she writes whatever she wants and feels and doesn’t care at all about what haters have to say about her.

This song, when it was released, was the best thing that happened to me. During that time, I was facing intense bullying at school and couldn't say anything. Three boys started to harass me, engaging in cyberbullying, stealing my belongings, pulling my hair during classes, and saying hurtful things, like calling me schizophrenic. I was just letting things slide until one day I reached my limit. This song helped me a lot to be able to tell my family and school what was happening, and fortunately, I changed schools. Melanie, you are much more than a singer; you are a feeling. ❤

I think the meaning is about somebody drunk and aggressive trying to yell over you to shut your voice out even though you’re saying the truth. They don’t care about you or your voice or making any sense. they want to get angry they want to yell they want to win over you and that’s all they care about. Humans acting like feral animals fighting, releasing their inner angers and justifying them to themselves because they have nothing else to add to the conversation.
