A detail I noticed that supports the story that the mercenary only overtook the siren through deception: she dances and twists and spins (and swims up waterfalls) wearing a skin of gold and jewels so heavy, the mercenary cannot carry them through the woods without falling. She's physically stronger than every soldier at the bottom of that lake.

This is such a beautiful but sad story. Its a perfect representation of how toxic relationships affect men and women. The siren covered in all her jewels and riches drives men mad with lust and greed. But although she sends them to their deaths, shes just trying to live. She understands the greed of men, and that they would only want her for her treasures and would most certainly kill her if she allowed them to get to close to her. She is longing for someone to prove her wrong. Of course, she never finds them and as a result she is incredibly lonely and in need of connection. The knight who did not fall under her spell and ran from her, she misinterpreted that as a man who wasnt driven by greed. Who could see past her jewels and possibly want her for who she was, not what she has. Someone who could prove her wrong. Her fleeting look of vulnerability and suprise after he ran from her and her running from him after he wakes and discovers her beside him and her playful smile at him in the waterfall, shows that underneath all those jewels and deadly power, shes actually quite a shy, nurturing and playful creature. She allows him to get close to her, until we discover that she was wrong to trust him, he was just as greedy as the rest, he just couldnt hear her. And he robs her of every golden scale she has, phisically ripping it out of her body and once he had finished with her, he dumps her into the river, like she was a rotten piece of nothing. Again, proving her right. He uknowing drinks her blood that heals his ears. She emerges from the lake, stronger, wiser and angrier than ever and she makes sure her bloodcurdling scream will be the first and last thing he ever hears. She gets her revenge in the end, but shes forever lost her beauty, and shes forever lost her voice and she will forever be scarred, unloved and alone. At the end she just looks empty and broken. Showing that there is no satisfaction in revenge no matter how cold. There are no winners.

I cried when she tried to dance at the end and could barely even do so without being in great pain. Sometimes when we're burned, we don't get stronger. That is the sad reality. I am of the camp that the golden scales are a part of her body, and not taken from the bodies of the dead. Her traumatized response gave me the impression that she will never be the same again. A very sad but very powerful little story, told beautifully and wildly. Which is appropriate, because it is about harmful passion.

i think the gold and stuff was part of her body, too. they kind of showed it with the scale that lodged in his hand after he touched her. gold. so, it's all like fish scales, likely, and so when ripped off it is *damage.* the deception was hard to watch... it seemed like she let him live, there was almost sort of a courtship and then he headbutts and strips her, dumping her body. cuts to the core.

@@ellimick5207 I believe this episode is a metaphor of nature being wrecked by gold mining, the siren being the nature. The guy she’s dancing with didn’t drown because he’s deaf and he didn’t hear the lure of the siren. So he took advantage of that and just left the siren wrecked as hell by getting all the gold armor and mask of the siren. But after he washed his face with the water of the river (I believe he did lol can’t remember) it made him have hearing ability, and that’s when the siren took advantage of it and lure him to the river and drown him too as revenge. BTW. Someone can explain it better to you. Lol just wanted to share what I know about it. 😂

Guys this is a movie! This is about a siren that lures men with her screams and makes them kill eachother but the man that survived was deaf. He ends up sleeping to find her next to him. They make out but then he starts ripping the jewels off of her. She was bleeding and he drank the blood that could heal anything. He ends up being able to hear but then she screams and at the end he dies

In stories like this my heart always breaks for the “monster.” We as humans are greedy, destructive, infectious little things. Siren thought she had found someone, someone she couldn’t hurt. But when he betrayed her, scarring her permanently… something deep within her broke. She broke through reason and hurt him back. With mother nature on her side she couldn’t lose. But she never really won. Sirens’ movement turns from flowing, swift, gentle, to jagged, sharp, and clearly painful. The waters rage around her, reddening from her rage, her pain. This song and this animated story go so well together. Truly incredible, thank you for the post.

My absolute favorite episode of Love, Death and Robots...you've done it BEAUTIFUL justice pairing it with this song. The beats...the first moment at 0:36 when the visuals match up with the muffled noise as the shot moves underwater..."tired of silence and being polite" as she appears in distress..."let them drown" as she throws herself towards him, "milk from the rivers" with the waterfall...the whole sequence with her dancing close to him with the beats swapping between scenes..."the waters red" with the lake turning..."let these fuckers all drown" as it fades out...my word, i think i could write an essay on the symbolism and editing skills here. 👏👏👏👏👏👏 WELL DONE!

This is my first time seeing this and realizing its the Netflix show I've been sleeping on. The animation is so disturbing it makes me uncomfortable in a way, yet its so good. The ending gave me chills. The scenes fit so well with this song of Melanie's. The woman and her movement were strange yet I was intrigued. The way he ripped her apart was just-... I can't seem to put it to words. The heavy flow of blood down and her naked body (lesser gold on her) absolutely eye catching how he was once able to resist her and her rage sucked him in with the other. Though I couldn't see her tears I felt them. Literal chills.

NGL when this popped up in my feed, I didn't read any of the description I was too enthralled with both the song and the edit to it. Holy jesus I freaked when I saw it was from an episode of one of my favorite shows of all time ever. What a genius pairing!! Hats off to whoever put in the work to edit it to perfection. Both Mel Mar and the creator of the episode on LD&R are so cutting edge and genius I was literally shut the f up with the perfection and artistry from both these artists. Kudos! Chef's kiss! If I didn't know about the Jibaro episode, I would swear the video was created just for the song, or the song was created for the short film. Amazing!
