i dont understand how NOBODY can tell that melanie did NOT wanna perform this song. when adam tried to tell her 'this song is your experiences' and related it to her, the expressions on her face screamed no. i feel like she felt condescended by being whittled down to a sweet little girl when in reality she is so much more complex, mature, and deep than the way others perceive her, which is exactly what adam did (and why this performance is certainly her worst (not vocally ofc, just her overall demeanour and the lack of passion). an artist like melanie cant perform unless they are being their true authentic self, and her facial expressions and stage presence so obviously portrayed her disdain towards this song and the associations outsiders made according to her external appearance, which diminished her extremely complicated and intelligent mind and soul. i watched this with a group of people, and every one of us agreed that she was uncomfortable and that her heart wasnt in the performance -- the audience can see this too, and its probably not a coincidence that this was her last song on the show.
