my interpretation is that she’s playing a character that is a representation of all the perils of fame in the industry, having to create an image that sells or is wide spread. at the end, since “the creature” isn’t the typical archetype of what the industry wants her to be, the game malfunctions and the girl playing appears to be her as her original style, that she is frustrated she can’t escape the demands and being something different. love her sm ❤️😭

Oh honey she is going to be making a video for every song on the album so buckle in! We'll probably be getting videos for the next year or two! (all except the 3 bonus tracks). She was actually planning to do all of this *and* film a whole musical movie like K-12 but she overextended her budget and can now only afford videos. But that's fine! Lots of content to come P.S. I see the video game theme and reveal at the end as her fans controlling her.. Sitting behind their computers telling her how to act and what to do and trying to control her life and career. Which is kinda true... That girl looks like she could be a Melanie fan

When people first heard this song, the initial thought most had was that it was about sexual objectification and how potential partners can often have 'tunnel vision' to sexual pleasure, but I love how she flipped the script a bit with this visual aspect to making it more about how society and fake fans only want artists to do what they want them to. Melanie is a true artist, she is never going to sacrifice the art that she wants to make to please society or the people that will only support one aspect of her, and for that I have the utmost respect! 💞

It’s kinda like a portal’s version of “show and tell” so the video game prompts are popping up but we are pressing them (the fans) she’s the one being controlled. The first one said “say their demonic” cuz that’s what ppl been calling her so we are told to do that as a “fan” in the video. Or the “call them a bitch for being human” that’s what some “fans” did to her. It’s about her experience as a celebrity

The end of this song, on the album, was a transitional point. I feel that the ending of this song, which was missing, will be the start of the next group of songs. My hope is that we will continue the nymph’s journey as she descends down that hole to the Faerie Soiree, free from the constraints of herself and others.

The ending for me is just showing that she's gaining control again and don't care about "them" anymore.... It's like she saying "It's "game over" for you we "could've been more, now we'll never know" cuz of your shitty ass" And by "them" I mean the obsessive fans or even the guys/girls that wants her

I think the ending is meant to symbolise the start of her rebirth as the butterfly on the wall seems to hint at it and considering the final song on portals was womb it makes me curious to see if her new alter ego is gonna transform into a butterfly and this is her cocoon phase

The game over and video game theme for this music video isn't literally the Portals era/Crybabys storyline being a videogame, it's a metaphor for objectification and control Basically the game over shows how if you keep trying to control her you'll eventually lose her because she wants to be free and do her own thing, the girl at the end is labelled as "Fangirl" in the video description and she's basically a representation of toxic fans who want to change Melanie back to her older eras

I believe the songs about not letting other take advantage of you, and not following the world’s expectations on people, taking care of yourself and focusing on yourself for yourself, prioritizing your happiness not your reputation. Toxic and obsessive fans, relationships and friends. Think the ending is saying how, women experiences this ‘game’ where women are forced to ‘smile’ and look ‘skinny pretty’, in the ending the girl lost, meaning she probably ‘didn’t meet the expectations’ and she lost the game. Melanie is saying that we shouldn’t play this game saying that she’s “better the That” she’s not some sort of deity or celebrity you can fantasize about and obsess over, she’s a person just like everyone else who deserves respect.

i see the ending as the woman escaping/“winning” in the relationship, and it being “game over” for the abuser/man. and the person playing was the abuser getting mad they lost and the game/“relationship” was broken

The times I said “period” in the entire video LOL. This song is about toxic fans and people in general. Also, the visuals were very good. The part when it shows “call her a b*itch for being human” and she cried, actually made me very sad 😔. I’ve been following her music since CryBaby so everything makes sense. For me. I think that the video game reference is about people wanting you to look a certain way and then some women actually want to look like what men want them to look like. But at the end of the day, it doesn’t matter what you look like. You don’t win anything by trying to look like what men want you to look like. So I think that’s why Mel put that video game reference out there. Because some people want to change the way they look for no reason what’s so ever.
