Dear Dr. Gardner, thanks for your videos. I am an Italian DVM and Inter of the Veterinary Pathology Division of Utrecht University, I will start my residency in veterinary pathology in the near future. For me your videos are something great, they are clear, easy to understand and as this one, short, so a perfect combination. I wanted to say only thanks for what you do, is very useful and interesting!
OMG... Ive got no idea how many hours I've spent on that topic .... when its so easy,... wish I was doing residency under your supervision... anyway HUDGE thanks.
I like to talk about these cells as if they're people. Dr Gardner is a nerd, like most other pathologists are. I know because I'm a pathologist too. Thank you for another clear and helpful video. I'm a huge fan of your videos, your work and your mastery of the subject of Dermpath in general.
Superb teaching video! Love the quality and staining of slides as well. Thank you so much, Dr Gardner, for doing what you do and being an inspiration to many.
Awesome! If you want to learn more about melanocytes, check out my nevus video (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-jKZDqJez9jw.html) and my melanoma video (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-8N0IZZpF8ts.html) too.

Excellent teaching video. Humanizing the human cells is a helpful in making the distinctions “stick” for me. Poor keratinocytes, naked and alone. I’d love to see you examine some, woven into tough fibers, from a patient with Morgellon Disease. Also to hear what you think about the unique physiology. Thanks for teaching us well.

Beautiful melanoma. Is it true that African Americans have extra-cellular melanin, whereas European Americans have intra-cellular melanin (as shown)? It would be interesting to see the differing histology of their skin side by side for comparison. Where does the “melanin cap” reside in people of African descent ? Is that why they don’t get melanoma except in their nails and soles of feet ? Please clarify why they are immune to the sun’s ultraviolet effects.
Will try to cover that at some point. I think I touch on it in this video if I recall. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-G31xlSgYSlw.html
It’s a type of autoimmune disease where lymphocytes (white blood cells) attack the melanocytes and destroy them. This leads to loss of skin pigment in the affected areas.
I have been trying to speak more slowly my whole life but unfortunately I’ve been unsuccessful so far! Even most native English speakers say that I speak too rapidly. I’m sorry! Some of my videos have English subtitles. Also you can adjust playback speed to slow the video down. Click settings button in bottom right of video for these options. Best wishes.
