I have delayed sleep phase disorder and it’s extremely disruptive to my life. I’ve tried several methods to alter my circadian clock ( light therapy, diet and exercise changes, melatonin supplements, blue light blockers, black out curtains, humidifier, snake plant and air purifier, etc) and nothing works. I’ve been able to work from home the last 3 yrs and sleep in my own rhythm, which has helped TREMENDOUSLY with not feeling exhausted and sleep deprived all day every day, but in two weeks, it’s back to the office at 8:00am, which means a 6:30 wake up, which means HELL and TORTURE for my body again. There MUST be a way to alter my melatonin production successfully 🙏

Sometimes we fall asleep for tiredness even in the daytime presence of light. what is the reason behind it ??

Hi,,Debanjan First of all if the tiredness is Physical one then it is obvious that we are deprived of ATP molecular generation thereby Physical fatigue can be caused by a lack of energy in the muscle, by a decrease of the efficiency of the neuromuscular junction. So in order to get back to the equilibrium we rest , or even take a nap by closing our eyes so that we cut the supply of light going to the retina, thereby initiating dim-light melatonin onset.... ( like we keep sleep mask while travelling)....... While sleeping our body is at rest and consumes much less energy than our active life,.....SO rest/Sleep restores our energy currency and we get back to the work........

daytime doesn’t mean you are affected by daytime specially when you are in a room with closed blinds or no windows all day. Electric light can never make up to intensity of natural light and it affects on your retina.

Narcolepsy is excessive sleepiness. It can be caused by low Dopamine. Poor diet contributes to this. Hence the old saying "Breakfast is the most important meal of the day". Eating a well balanced breakfast can resolve excessive sleepiness during the day.

Could be the blunt ... but I understood absolutely everything you said. Namaste 👁 But I have a very curious question. What effect on the body would the sunlight have? Looking it directly at it ?

Definitely it will hurt ur eyes ( like light sensitive cells ). Looking directly will always create an involuntary reflex within you which will take out ur sight directing sun.

Very nice explanation. If the IPRG cells are photosensitive and response only in the presence or absence of light, how is it that they depolirise even more with short wave-length light?

I go to bed late after midnight, but I normally keep a regular schedule. Also sleep for 8 hours, but do you know if that has effect on growth hormone release?

Very nice video! The only thing i don`t understand is, if the SCN is the master clock itsself, why is it still sensitive to melatonin? Would highly appreaciate an answer!

First of all thanks for appreciation.... Now coming to the question .. The Melatonin acts as a Messenger to let the SCN know what is going on and for that SCN has MT1 receptors which receive the Hormone and confer the signal. I hope this makes some sense bcz i am not very specific for this answer😉😉

Hussain Biology Sure. But the strange thing is that the SCN wouldnt need melatonin, since it has the input from the ganglion cells already, thus it knows whether it is day or night without melatonin (other than the rest of the oscillators, which dont have light-input). You know what I mean? Somehow that is answered nowhere on ncbi :/ thats why im hoping you can help me

Avoid artificial lights and maintain constant sleeping time ( 8 hours approx ) U know. Early to rise , early to bed makes a man healthy wealthy and wise.✌️

It has been experimentally shown that the presence of electromagnetic waves disrupts the normal functioning of brain particularly the sleep cycles.But it has not been directly linked to Circadian rhythms. As per the NCBI article ( link given below ) the presence of EMF has disrupted the Pineal Functioning . The pineal gland is likely to sense EMFs as light but, as a consequence, may decrease the melatonin production. Rest you can follow the article in the given link www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/23051584 I hope it helps

What if one doesnt have a pineal gland? How then is he able to sleep? Such is the case for myself. I had a brain tumor on my pineal gland that was removed a year ago, and with that the gland itself was removed. How do you explain how i'm still able to sleep?
