We sooo needed this! You inspire us all! Very educational. I'm 2 1/2 years in and loved this clarification. Hybrid expression. Loved being part of the online You&Van&Mark Shuffle Experience. Spreading the word in Northern VA one group at a time. Your smile, shapes and transfer of enthusiasm does it.💜 You have great style and fashion sense.

Thank you, what an amazing video that brought back so much nostalgia! I almost can't believe this video exists because it can be a thankless task to go back to a time and place that is relatively unknown to the current U.S. generation, and this might not have the appeal that so many other tutorials have with newer styles. This video deserves tons of attention not just for the subject, but for the masterclass you gave in how to teaching dance/shuffling. Probably like millions of others, my first exposure to shuffling was the iconic "Hardstyle Battle Shuffle vs Jumpstyle" video. My mind couldn't process what was going on because it just looked like they were floating and gliding. It's a paradox though because they stomped HARD the whole time. I tried to start learning (in my thirties) and it was so hard I gave up after a few months. I couldn't visualize nor did I have the coordination, stamina and time to learn to move like they did. I don't think people realize that not only is Melbourne a root of todays shuffling, it is advanced and you have to be dedicated to learn and do it well. Thank goodness the newer generation brought shuffling down to a level I could see and learn and practice and now in my old age I'm cutting a little. I'm not saying todays shuffling can't be advanced, only that to do Melbourne back in the day, it was like going from 0 to 100, you either could or you couldn't, and being one that could meant that you had to live your life on the streets of Melbourne with the community. But I believe you captured so much of the subtle but crucial elements that make Melbourne what it is (Word of the video: GROUNDED). With this video, I might have a chance. Regardless, I have always loved the feel and look of Melbourne, and I hope to bring some elements in my journey.

This is the best explanation for running man I`ve ever seen. (Now I really feel the difference when I`m paying attention to your tip for straighting and bending the upper body) Thank you, Kento ❣ Best regards from Germany 👵

Hi Kento! I don't wanna be THAT GUY and sound like I'm trying to correct you but more bring awareness about something when it comes to the pronunciation of Melbourne. So quick backstory, I had a thing with this gal from Melbourne Australia and I'll be honest, her shuffling was terrible BUT she used to get furious every time I pronounced the R in Melbourne, literally yelling at me, "you Americans can never pronunciate our city correctly," because with the Australian accent that R is supposed to be silent. See with their accent, the R sound is non-rhotic meaning the R sound is dropped at the end of words (like far) or sometimes when it's between letters in words (like spark but in this case specifically Melbourne). You'll hear this when people say car, water or park with an Australian accent and even a British, New York and Boston accent. Also, I'm from Boston and lived in NYC for a little bit too but I currently live in DC and I've heard accents that are non-rhotic throughout my life however I'm just super familiar with the details of accents cause I studied dialects and accents for a minute! BUT when it comes to this specific "pronunciation" cause I know we live in the states where the neutral American accent is rhotic and we pronounce all our R's. However if you ever talk to me about shuffling I'll actually drop the R when I say "Melbourne Shuffle" just to show respect to the origin city it came from. Like even when I say New York I subconsciously use a New York accent just to show respect to the proper pronunciation but I do have a neutral accent overall. And if you are unsure of the phonetics of the pronunciation just look up "Melbourne Australia News" on RU-vid and just pay attention and listen to how the news anchors pronounce the city name! The proper pronunciation in Australia for Melbourne is "Mel-Bin" but in the US like you pronunciated is "Mel-Born." Hopefully you learned something but just wanted to shed light about that cause I know this video will blow up and just in my opinion, using proper pronunciation shows respect to other cultures and dialects and even languages when you take the time to learn them! Now having said all that, I also wanted to tell you, I love ALL your tutorials cause it's helped me level up like crazy and I go back and watch a lot if I forget certain combos!!! And now if anytime my friends ask me how to specifically learn the Melbourne Shuffle, I'm just gonna send them here! PS! If you see Kat AKA @kathryneaddy tell her Daniel Moon says, greetings from the DMV and "mehoy minoy," cause we talk in SpongeBob memes. LOLOLOLOL Sending you nothing but love, support and good vibes from the nation's capital bro, I look forward to shuffling with you at a festival one day! ✌
