Sorry Waffles, I primary an axe so I guess we can't be friends any more. Guess I'll have to unsub. 😥😆 I've been hanging out in the Swamps for a while now so I usually switch between a mace or an axe, but I'll also carry either my iron sledge or an atgeir, depending on what kinda trouble I wanna cause. 😆
Great vid dudeski, your editting is getting better and better I must say. Also nicely done against the horde of greydwarves, the constant rocks were always gonna be the issue, not gonna lie, I expected you to die! 🤣
Totally agree on axes. Just too slow for me. I carry one with me all the time for killing trees and only trees. Id much rather use a sword for slash damage. Faster attacks and much cooler animations imo. I love the knife and atgeir but i also carry a mace. Im not a huge fan of the mace for some reason, my other weapons are just more exciting to me than bashing stuff. But when i first got to bronze age and was going through all those burial chambers full of skeletons the mace made it super easy to clear the dungeon out in a fraction of the time.
TY for this! You must have been reading my mind because I was wondering about a weapon to give me the best chance in that occasional battle while I’m out exploring. I mostly build but there is that pesky neighbor every once and awhile 😉😆
Big fan of axes here. I love woodcutting and I also find them extremely effective as a weapon in the bronze age. I never made a sword or a mace in the bronze age because the axe does more damage. The speed difference is SO small I can't even really tell the difference, and with the Stagbreaker I don't feel the need for more blunt damage. I also LOVE the Crystal Battleaxe though so we'll never agree on this lol
Hahaha it seems like you're right! But that's the beauty of the game! Play exactly how you like and just chuckle at my shaming. Thanks for stopping by!
Throw in that there seems to be some hidden damage vulnerabilities - I always feel my axe does more damage to skeletons than my sword, though not technically buffed. They take out the greydwarf spawners faster, and they're great against abominations. That said - my main loadout is usually club, spear and axe with shield and bow. Currently I am doing a play through with sword main, but spear is fun to throw against the shaman when he comes to spray, then you pick it up while he is staggered then finish him off. Although the spear has a quirky hit box (always take the low ground Anakin) and no third strike boost, it is fast and takes less stamina than other weapons. The club uppercut you unlock with bronze is also good in the swamp - other than the high knockback and stun, it can hit leeches in the water without you needing to get too close. For my play style which is more mobility based, the stag breaker and battle axe tend to weigh me down and cost too much stamina for a big fight against many mobs.
I am with you any tool and weapon combo that is that is the same unit is a boone when you dont have the copper and tin to spare also better for weight and storage
yeah, same, it always occured to me that its easier and less time consuming to just stick with the axe, I can upgrade the axe to level 4 and it does good damage, in the iron age Its different since you will be going to mountains with iron gear too and also bonemass really needs to be beaten with the iron mace (he doesnt need to be beaten with a mace but Its so much more effective and faster), also the mace is great for stone golems and my final choice is the frostner until I aquire mistlands gear, it slows everybody which is perfect for wolves, fuelings, loxes, even in mistlands Its great and viable
The "box of shame" had me laughing. One more little detail that can figure into the bronze age upgrade choices is repair requirements. I sometimes build the bronze axe, for example, and only pull it out of storage when I am specifically seeking fine wood. The rest of the time I am packing the level 4 flint axe (and the antler pickaxe) because it can be repaired at a level 1 workbench. Same for the wooden club and the flint spear, of course. Not a huge thing, but it can be useful (especially if you enjoy playing without portals).
I fully agree with the pickaxe, though slightly less damage - when working on a far copper deposit or stone pile the ability to easily repair onsite early game to fully mine before worrying about transporting is a bonus. Flint axe is good and one I always make first (tend not to use stone axe as a shore is often close enough), but once you hit bronze - that need for fine wood outweighs the repair issue for me.
I tend to have a sword/shield and mace/shield as primary melee weapons, with a bow as primary ranged weapon. Then maybe a sledge/atgier/knife as something more exotic that I swap in and out of. As you said, the mace is pretty solid both for Black Forest and swamps, against oozes as well as skeletons.
Maces really are probably the best early game weapon until maybe the mountains. Next best is probably spears. But there are truly so many awesome options and they're all viable. Except maybe axes. Hahaha
I never understood why the sword's secondary doesn't do pierce damage. I think making swords better at fighting Troll and Lox would make them more competitive with maces.
Great video! I am a big fan of clubs and knives with bows for distance. I pretty much use an axe only for cutting wood. I am not a fan of spears and I seldom try the atgier or the sword.
I completely differ in your opinion of battle axes but i must admit it aint for everyone, is one of the hardest weapons to master and the most brutal weapon against crowds of mobs of any kind if you known how to swing of course... they heavily punish you for missing but they are brutally good against gangs of mobs like Graydwarfs, Draugers, Wolfs Invasions and Fuling camps, and equally good option is also the TH Maces but they get kind of boring as they are really simple/effective to use and pose little risk..
