MELIS - Afterbirth+ Mod 

Thanks once again for playing my character, I'm glad they're reaching you! I'm so confused as to how every single time you play one of my characters you get Humbling Bundle and The Small Rock in the first two floor, as well as stupidly good items all run ._. HuttsLuck! - There was an update to the API yesterday which allows custom keybinds, however for now it's very complex and I only know how to set things via challenges... If that becomes easier, I can make Silas and Melis have active items too. - Absorbing souls is important as hell for Melis, my record is killing delirium with 734 souls! - I've looked into changing the spacebar item so it has charge, or make it have one or two uses per room depending on other active items, will look more into that after the HUGE silas update ;) - Melis is meant to start out very difficult and scale well for the end-game bosses, however you got so many damage and tear ups that nothing stood a chance! I'll look into rebalancing the spacebar though. - Removing all the items from a room will be fixed tomorrow! - Making ONLY black hearts spawn would be a great idea, not bad! - Paying health is not only a good idea but also thematically sound, brilliant! Will look into that! I have a third character on the workshop but it'll still need quite a bit of tweaking until I'd be happy with showcases etc, thank you so much for the feedback on Melis, these were great ideas and the last two I will be 100% adding!

Here we are in the future, where you can have a cool active effect on your tainted character and still carry an active item.

We need a character that can mount enemies and ride on them and use their attacks

This mod does a really good job at making a character that is weak and hard to play at first, but becomes quite powerful later. It also does that by including original mechanics, not giving you half a heart, not by telling you "Beat a stage without taking damage with this super weak character! Yay!". Good job modder! (Also, I have to agree with Hutts, it needs to be nerfed a bit when you get too strong. Maybe make the damage split between the familiars? Like if you have 10 Dmg. and you have 2 babies, every baby gets 0.65 of your overall damage, if you have 3, everyone gets 0.45 and so on)

I talked with the creator of Melis and Silas, he told me that he was working on new characters at the moment ^^ He's a really cool person :)

Some balancing things could be as such: 1) All Items cost one heart to get (devil deals still 3 as usual for no red hearts) 2) ONLY soul/ black hearts 3) A Mode switch (One is absorb mode where your circle will do damage then and allows you to devour souls while the other mode focuses on your familiers) 4) Cannot take familiers and will turn into 1 soul heart instead (so you dont have a full on roit squad mowing down rooms) 5) As Hutts said, no heart drops EVER and only can get them from Shops, Active Items, Soul Havesting and the card/pill that gives soul hearts (but gain one soul heart for every floor start, so you dont just fall over dead by floor 3) these are my idea's, maybe this makes it a little _too_ hard but i've played around with this mod too and you can just destroy everything past the Mom fight by that time and will always be loaded on hearts. I'd like to see what people would think of this even know this is a late comment.

If anyone is curious how the souls turning into familiars works, it's not like it says on the mod page. It says every 20 but it's 25, 75, 150, and then theoretically 250, because the number of souls increases by 25 each time.

its a geometric progression which means the jumps between upgrades grows each time by a certain number the first jump was by 25 the second by 50 the third by 75 and so on

Looks like a Character that I'm going to add to this Game. I won't Spoil what it is, but it's Blindfolded while having an Orbiting Robo-Baby (With a Small Chance to get Robo-Baby 2.0 when Starting a Run.) I'll Release more Info on this Character when we get to it! ;)

All they have to do to balance it is make the active item passive and de-power it a bit. So, your aura does damage, but that's it. If you kill someone with your aura, you get a soul; maybe even just a chance for a soul per kill. That does away with the insta-kill OPness. That said, it's a really cool character concept.

I think to balance it and make it more fun, the damage should be buffed and have her familiars removed with her damage only being her aura, which now can charm people. It would be an interesting playstyle and her synergies would be pretty cool, with tear effects now being aura effects and whatnot.

I have an idea for a modded character that behaves similarly to Kirby. He would be another character with an irreplaceable activated item, unfortunately, but it's one that the entire play mechanic would revolve around. This item would be called Inhale, and it would work kinda like Mom's Bracelet in Antibirth when you first start out. This would be essential to your survival because you'd be unable to shoot tears by any means. Using the spacebar would allow you to suck up whatever is closest to you, whether it be an obstacle or an enemy. Pressing the spacebar again would then cause one of two things to happen. Either the object would be spat back out to do damage to enemies in its path, or it would be swallowed to give you an ability. Once you'd gain an ability, you could finally start shooting as you normally would. The ability given to you would depend on what you swallow, so it could be possible to get rarer weapons like ipecac, lasers, and brimstone without having to find the corresponding passive items. However, if at any point you were to be damaged, you'd have a small chance of losing your ability, forcing you to inhale again until you get something else to replace it. Passives you obtain would stack with your ability, and you'd also have the option of discarding your ability manually with the spacebar if you find something more favorable. Obviously, the lack of an ability would be tricky in situations where you can't suck up a larger enemy and there are no obstacles to spit, but perhaps the room layouts could also be edited accordingly to make that scenario less likely to occur... I haven't done any real modding yet, but I am learning. I hope to make this a reality someday.

Making the use item charge like the boomerang might be a good start for balance's sake.

A new Melis! Only Charming shots through demon b o i s, has ability to *s u c c* the souls of the alive.

I think the space bar should switch between absorb mode and control mode. In absorb mode your aura damages enemies and automatically absorbs their souls when they are low. Also, the babies stop firing and maybe become bullet blockers. In control mode the aura no longer damages and instead it charms enemies and lets you control them. Another good change might be to only get flight and spectral tears after you've absorbed a base number of souls.

It's an extra demon at 25, 75, 150, 250, 500, 1000 and 2500. That's what the developer wrote to me

1st thing that popped into my head to balance it out was that every extra familiar you get you take an extra half of heart damage per familiar, so example is your 1st/starter familiar = no negative but your 2nd will be a full heart and 3rd would be heart and half. So then you would be like ok after the 2nd i won't get no more familiar's because on the Womb it's double damage so you would basically be taking quad damage, it's just a little 2 cents on the matter if the mod creator is reading the comments. :)

He says the character is overpowered but he literally carries the best items (a lot of damage items too) with him.

4 years ago hutts asked for active items on different keys. Today he complains when these tainted characters have active abilities on different keys

To make this mod more balanced. Make the effects of the character into items. Then have the setup as a challenge and once you complete the challenge you unlock the items in the main game.

Here is a good build with that character, brimstone, rubber cement, my reflection. Challenge half: complete a full run(beat everyone possible, bossrush, hush, mega satan, ???/the lamb, and delirium), you can only pick up stat upgrades, but no tear modifiers. You cant floor skip or reroll your character. You must full clear the void before fighting delirium. Also you have to clear every room.

To add any challenge: Remove killing charmed enemies on spacebar item. Charmed enemies can damage you but won't intend to do so. However, they die after a while. Reduce range of ring. Spacebar item converts heart drops into souls, or if room is not completed (enemies are in it), sacrifices a heart to guaranteedly eat souls of enemies throughout the room (as in whoever dies in it gives you a soul) What it does? It does heavily gimp your capability to eat sweet sweet souls, which also means you progress slower. Also makes charming enemies more of a defense than offense, and not beinf able to promptly end their life and them actually being able to, for example, explode and deal damage to you, to accidentally damage you.

What I'd do for this mod is lean into the succubus things. Since they need to feed on things to survive, maybe you take a half heart of damage every minute you don't kill with the spacebar item?

I played this mod, and got almost no damage upgrades, grabbed soy milk FOR SCIENCE, then found brimstone. Things were dying so quick I could barely get enough souls to get to five familiars

I think that a Warden mod video would be awesome., but that one makes it hard to open locked doors with certain synergies. However Rainmaker might be a fun character mod.

the space bar item should be a 1 second cooldown. ultimately not that big a difference but you may have to actually think. also maybe something like a damage divider on your babies might be helpful as it would take longer to reach peak strength

I think the black hearts are just supposed to add to the challenge of trying to suck souls. Like if it kills shit before you can get their souls then you don't get the soul, so you are encouraged to avoid damage.

To make it harder, make the ring shrink with each soul you take. Not a huge shrinkage but like a little bit so that at 100 its half the size.

I think the system for getting succubus baby things is you take 25 souls then add 50 to your last total and then 75 etc.

I guess ti make it less OP is, give the active item a charge of 1, so you cant use it multiple times in a room, with 1 charge you can do it every room.

Maybe the circle gets smaller while you gain power, so if you want more damage you have to run a higher risk

i think that one underutilized ability is to directly control enemies and i think that could be a character on its own i can imagine a ghost character like the lost and like the lost they die if they get hit but they can possess enemies to have the enemy tank and use their abilities against other enemies and against bosses maybe you just get given a vessel maybe you can possess them but only use them in boss fights and you can only possess them on low health doesn't that sound awesome?

When you do a character mod and go to the chest, you should have the mod that adds the key pieces after the Blue Baby fight

maybe have a different tears cap for more babies, like at 4 babies it's a worse fire rate than 3 etc, really dig this mod tho looks fun and cool

We need a modded character that makes it so when u shoot an enemy, there is a chance that it will be hypnotised and u can ride it and kill enemies (bosses cant be hypnotised cause obviously they are too strong) and u can take it through rooms.
