It was a big surprise to hear you jam with the band! I'm sorry that watching online I didn't get to hear more, but I love that song and it's always great to hear you.
I have been an unwavering fan since reading about Matthew Shepard and subsequently moved by your sorrowful yet strong song about him... and your letters to leaders about keeping their bigoted political views out of your personal life. You have a voice that is heard on stage, on radio, on debate and on record - and life would be better if everyone just perked up their ears and listened to you with open hearts and minds. Thank you for giving us what grows in your soul.
I read this earlier in the month, but it's worth pointing out here: www.whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/statements-releases/2023/10/12/statement-from-president-joe-biden-on-the-25th-anniversary-of-the-tragic-death-of-matthew-shepard/
As a member of the first MTV generation (but the one that basically killed it), Melissa is a very memorable creative force that was ubiquitous between Prince, Michael Jackson, Metallica and Nirvana.
The first cassette tape I ever picked out for myself was her, back in the early 90’s. I thought she was so great! But then my family told me I should stop listening to her and they got weird when I, a preteen girl, sang along. Why? Why would they care when I had a strong, opinionated, talented role model and I had enjoyed her music so much? I was too young to realize she just came out if the closet around that time, and my family was full of homophobic individuals. For the record, you don’t “become gay” by listening to music. It is my biggest regret I stopped listening to her and had to hide that I liked her music back then because I was a child and didn’t know better. I needed a strong, independent role model like her. Today I am a staunch ALLY and I trace my support and acceptance if that community back to that experience.
I've always loved Mellissa Etheridge and wished that I could sing like her. I pretended I could when I was alone in the car. She has such a beautiful and powerful voice. ♥
Really. She's killing it - and playing more guitar than I knew she could - with presumably little or no rehearsal. Just wish Louis had picked up his trombone instead of that tambourine.
I love that Henry wanted to ask Melissa a question too... and it was a good one! And that she joined in with the band at the end!! Great segment & guest choices : )
Went to my first ME concert in the late 80's and discovered the true definition of "charisma". When she took that guitar growled into the mic we were all taken under her musical spell.
I’ve loved her as an artist ever since I first watched the video for “I Want To Come Over” back in the 90s. And “Angels Would Fall” takes me back to a very happy time in my life, so I have nothing but good memories associated with her music. 😃
Love this woman. I had the privilege to work for her record company in the 90's and I worked with her many times. I believe she is the sincerest artist I ever worked with and her dedication to her fan base is real. Many nights her tour manager kept telling her she had to get on the bus as she stayed and met everybody in line after the show. The last time I saw/talked to her was in pre-show catering as she juggled her sleeping son in one arm and tried to eat with the other. I was no longer with the record company, so we chatted and caught up. Honestly, she probably would not recognize me if we passed on the street today, but I will hold those memories and my gold record for Yes I Am...forever.
If you don’t want to know what happiness or the sad part of life is…don’t listen to her. You already missed the picture…she’s not a legend, because she still lives in the real world. Remarkable is the best word. If you want that…. She will captivate you!!!!! I still love every moment she has given me since I discovered her & that was 30 sum years ago. She will electrify & rock you!! & that’s just the beginning
A Rock Star, A Pro in every way! This is how legends are made, get in there, tell it as it is, then finish it off by strapping on a guitar and doing what they do! No time for crap, legends just 'Do It!'.
Years ago I won tickets to her concert. I knew her a little but wasn’t a big fan but then we heard her in concert ! Great guitarist and great musician. It was a wonderful experience
So sad about her son, I remember when he died during COVID and feeling terrible for Melissa. She is amazingly strong and determined to keep living her best life. She is inspiring.
What a treat! I had the privilege to see her in person in an underground (literally underground) venue in Aspen in the early 80's. Still remember how she moved the audience, pure magic.
Indeed. Her deceased son’s biological father was the late David Crosby who was the sperm donor to which her wife (at the time) supplied the egg. Sad to say that the substance addiction gene was passed down from father to son. 😕
Omg!!! Love ❤💙her and the end playing and singing with the band- priceless! I was11 when I watched movie “All that Jazz” and discovered George Benson’s song - On Broadway- I used to practice dancing in my room all the time. Wonderful interview 👏
The first time I ever heard of her was when she appeared at the Oscars (apperantly as a last minute thing), and blew my 17 year old mind with 'Bring Me Some Water'. I'd never 'felt the crowd' through the TV before. Loved her ever since.
@@NewMessage It was the 1989 Grammy Awards, nominated for Best Rock Vocal Female and introduced by Billy Crystal. I believe that was the first year for that particular category and, yes, there's a video of the performance on YT.
One of my fave artists, exuding a ferocious gentle strength in her music.. I recall my galpal who was fighting metastatic breast cancer as Melissa was fighting her cancer, and so enraged at the mean, indifferent comments of the time of her being gay and that the cancer was meant as a punishment. Melissa's fight not only against cancer but the mean-spirited evangelicals served as a catalyst for my galpal's 11 year fight.
I have been following Taylor on RU-vid shorts for a year now and she is effen awesome. So proud she got this gig. This chick is made for great things. Don't stop keeping it real Taylor. But also, you can learn how to bake at 3am more effectively.
Such an amazing artist. Been a huge fan since 1989!!! First three albums were so amazing. Late September Dogs, Brave And Crazy and Bring Me Some Water!!!
Her show is great! this is the last week to see it. She shows what amazing music you can make with just your voice and an acoustic guitar. (She also plays some piano, drums, electric guitar and clarinet as well.)
Getting old sucks... I've been watching Steven Tyler morph into a hippy grandma, Vince Neil morph into Immortan Joe, Chrissie Hynde morph into a mashup of Steven Tyler and Christine McVie, David Lee Roth morph into William Lane Craig, Eddie Vedder morph into Russell Crowe, Madonna morph into a skinny version of Barf from _Spaceballs,_ Axl Rose morph into a swollen, squinty troll doll that was left in a hot car, and Mellisa Etheridge morph into the the Skipper from _Gilligan's Island._ And the worst of it all is that I don't look much better.
… k. We understand that late night talk shows don’t qualify as struck work under the SAG strike, right? And when the WGA strike ended late night (and daytime) got back to work immediately? Yeah? Okay, Cool. Just making sure.
