@@paulajf4205 there’s video of her trying to put it on, she was not delicate AT ALL while handling it. The fibers of that fabric must be so delicate after all these years, and she looked liked a toddler playing dress up. There was no care or attention given to make sure the dress was harmed as little as possible.

In my opinion, the dress she is fitting is just a replica which they just presented as the real thing. I mean since Kim partnered with Ripley's who has the orig then people would not question the authenticity...but Ripley's is not that dumb to risk the orig dress getting destroyed. So to make the whole thing work smoothly, they really need to make a replica which i feel even before this, they already have replicas. It really is smoke and mirrors / charade to fool us and a big collab between Kim and Ripley's. Now Kim is associated with Marilyn and there is new interest in Ripley's. People will want to visit just to see the dress. It was reported that Kim changed into a replica when she was inside the event but if you compare the pic when she was on the red carpet and inside the event with her family..dress looks the same. I’m personally neutral on this situation but here are reasons why the “it’s just a dress” argument does not work: 1) It’s not even about the dress, but an item being taken out of a museum to be worn. In that case, how come celebrities wear their own dresses when they can just go to a museum and choose ANY garment they want? Items are in museums for a reason 2) Judy Garlands Wizard of Oz shoes are in the Smithsonian museum. If Kim wore those shoes and ppl got mad, there’s a chance you still would’ve said “it’s just shoes” 3) a dress sold at old navy is just a dress. But any dress from a national museum is not considered “just a dress”. Many ppl only use this argument because they don’t care about the item, but that doesn’t make them right. Every item in a museum has historical value and museum stuff is old. It’s not allowed to be touched for a reason; haven’t you ever been to a museum? Anyway what’s done is done. Many ppl need to move on.

to be fair to them the met museums costume institute are the only one of 17 departments at the met that have to find their own funding they aren't given any by the museum its self so they probably have to invite the richest celebs they can find in order to get as much funding for the year as possible
