The Mellif portable battery operated air duster is an alternative to using expensive compressed air cans, a compressor air blower or a mains air duster. I’ll see how the Mellif compares to all these other options.
Compressed air has limitless uses, from blowing out dust from your keyboard or the inside of your computer, to cleaning stray dust from intricate components like a bike shifter and drying small parts on your bike too. In my workshop I use one all the time to blow away saw dust and metal shavings and to clean the dust filter on my vacuum.
Mellif makes a range of gadgets and tools that run off popular battery platforms, namely Milwaukee, Dewalt and Makita. Their tools aren’t supplied with batteries so they only really make sense if you're already on one of these platforms.
I’m testing the Milwaukee version which runs off Milwaukee's 18V M18 batteries and I’ll be using one of their 5Ah batteries that comes with lots of their tools.
The air duster is basically a knock-off of the Makita DAS180Z at around a third of the price. It costs about £40 or $40 and comes with a load of accessories including 5 nozzles, a flexible hose for reaching awkward areas and an adapter hose that connects around the back for suction.

I have the Makita version listed on eBay - I have more Milwaukee batteries!

I wanted to thank you for this great review! I always hated the downsides of compressed air cans (namely the requirement of holding them upright) and didn't realize there was such an easy alternative. I already have a Milwaukee battery from my drill so this is perfect! I bought this and just used it for the first time today, blew me away.

For DeWalt is there a minimum recommended battery size? 1.5ah, 3ah, 5ah? Obviously the larger the battery the more sustained voltage

They should all deliver the same power. In my tests the battery wasn't the limiting factor.

Seems slow to reach max power. Is there a knock off brand that has more power. I use an air compressor to clean chainsw grease vacuum cleaner filters etc

Perhaps the genuine Makita one. But it still won't compare to the blast an air compressor gives.

In little nooks and crannies like around the wing mirrors yes. But not for anything bigger than that really.

I thought that I would get the Mellif Air Duster in the Dewalt style as I have many Dewalt tools. Unfortunately, I have the older Dewalt battery equipment that use the older batteries with the stem that fits into the tool's grips. So, now I have to buy yet another battery and charger. My question is, should I buy the Mellif Air Duster with the Mellif 4AH battery and charger or buy the Dewalt 5AH battery and charger? Thanks.

To me it makes more sense if you’re already on the current Dewalt battery system. Maybe you could pick up an old Dewalt battery and charger? Or if you need a new drill usually some good deals around that come with batteries and charger.

Did you mention the weight? Doing precision cleaning inside your pc is easier if it's not too heavy.

That's what the flexible hose is intended for - but you lose a fair bit of power. It's 660g / 1383g without / with 5Ah battery.

Why buying this over a compact leaf blower?
@TheTechnologyMan

It's more compact mainly. Also has accessories for inflating and deflating.

@@TheTechnologyManyes that’s kinda the point, some people don’t need one and that’s fine but if you have ever have bought a good cordless blower for your yard and found yourself using it for everything from blowing off your car to blowing dust off of the work bench or saw station etc you can easily see just how useful these are. Great video, I’d really love to see you do more tool testing and or repair videos as it seems you have the skill set to test them properly. Loved the video thanks again

A smaller, more handy device like this one would be nice if it could match the PSI of the compressor. Every month I pull out everything I need to clean: House AC filters, car filters, vacuum cleaner filters, and even brooms and dustpan brushes, electric razors, etc. I usually bring out some woodworking tools that need to be blown out as well. My compressor isn't very large, so I have to wait on it to fill up from time to time it I'm blowing continuously for a bit (e.g., the HVAC filters). A hand-held blower with a concentrated airflow would be ideal, but none of these seem powerful enough.
@TheTechnologyMan
@TheTechnologyMan 5 месяцев назад
Wow you sound very organised! Nothing I've tried comes close to the power of the compressor - but for a lot of those jobs I imagine this blower would work ok. The other (albeit expensive) option is a portable battery operated compressor. The big battery platforms all do one.

Can you try with Milwaukee HO batteries? The battery was fast blinking after a single use. Battery came after putting on the charger though.
