Man. How brilliant is Billy Strings? What a great flatpicker. singer, songwriter and performer. Doc Watson and Jerry Garcia have ear to ear grins on this one. Billy's band is simply the best, with three brilliant lead players and wonderful harmonies. Go for a ride with Billy. He will take you to a wonderful place of history and vision at the same time. How lucky we are. Thanks, Billy and the entire band.
I’m glad I let this play long enough to hear his voice which was a positive point in this video. He’s got a fuzz box and all kinds of effects on his acoustic guitar. He isn’t the first person to do that but he may be the first who hasn’t been redirected and in fact he’s quite celebrated for his reinterpretation of BlueGrass. And he couldn’t carry Doc Watson’s guitar case
I’ve been around bluegrass my entire 38 years. This dude is beyond phenomenal. Weekend bluegrass festivals from Indiana, Kentucky and Tennessee were a staple of my upbringing. This guy is unreal.
Billy all by himself has the ability to move millions of music lovers over to a new genre of music. It takes a special talent to have that effect on people.
@@wesleycody2314 If it isn't your thing then find someone else who suits your taste. I'm sure you know there are plenty of more traditional bluegrass bands out there.
@@wesleycody2314 -- Musical innovators don't "pick a genre." They create one of their own -- just as Monroe, Scruggs, and Flatt did circa 1946 and Bob Dylan did in the mid-1960s. Moreover, the "new age spin in bluegrass" isn't new anymore -- e.g. the "Newgrass" movement of Bush, Fleck, Rice & Co., Punch Brothers and, more recently, The Travelin' McCourys and Greensky Bluegrass. It's all good IMO -- and I'm a codger of 74 who cut his bluegrass teeth on the Stanleys and F&S about six decades ago!
I am a man of 67, blown away with this video. What a performance by billy strings and all the other musicians. Never heard of this group or billy strings. I shall be doing some research on this man and his band. Thank you for this video ❤
Welcome to the incredible world of Billy Strings , Michael !!! Thank you for viewing. I’ve been filming Billy for 5 years now so I have hundreds of Billy videos on my channel. I hope you will enjoy them all. Currently, Billy is my favorite artist. ❤️🎶
My favorite thing about this video is that Billy shares the spot light with the rest of the band. When it's time for him to hang back and let the mandolin or banjo take the stage, he does. True musician.!
@@CorneiliusLibowitz that’s what I was going to say. Bluegrass musicians are some of the most humble people I’ve seen. There is no ego or competition, just great music and big smiles.
I'll tell you one thing for sure: Billy's talent is way beyond his years. And I'm not just talking about his playing. I'm talking about the whole package. I mean his songwriting, singing, etc. He has something very special.
That's actually number 37. 38 if you count the half-smile in a 2019 livestream performance, but collectors are still disagreeing about whether it was just gas.
I tell you I have never experienced a force as strong as Billy Strings in all my many years of festivals and concerts. Always gets me so emotional and hyped. Dudes fucking locked in 24/7. So sick.
I think Billy started in a Metal band. I can see that Rock 'N Roller playing that Bluegrass guitar when he's "banging his head" as he plays. This kid is pure gold.
Billy and the boys hammered Mobile Al for three nights in a row. First show was poorly attended, but they still killed it. We told everybody we could and apparently so did everybody else and the next two nights were packed out! It was like mini Woodstock. Had a blast and I thank them for that.
Great player , great band, great show . The only people who seem not to like this are the guitar snobs who usually arent profesional performers because there boring people , all technique and no passion . Ive been playing over 40 years and this guy is probably one of the best guitar players to come around in along time .
64 years young player here! Billy Strings consistent powerhouse of a Band. I was listening to Greensky Bluegrass when I found BMFS playing with Don Julin and I'm consistently blown away. Billy Apostle is Super multi-talented! (ps. I never liked Dylan -I listened to Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Pure Prairie League, Doc Watson, Don Reno, Flat & Scruggs.. My Uncle, Harry S Turner introduced me to the music. He wrote most of the sound tracks for the Preacherman cult classics, and is the original author of Dueling Banjos, but he didn't care about fame. He taught Arthur Smith the song.
Last time I saw Billy String was at a small venue in Rochester, NY and the palce didn't even sell. I stood about 4 feet in front of him. I think he had just come out with EP and just had a few RU-vid videos up. We knew then he was the shit but damn look at him now!
there's corporate country and the there is the antidote and we all know which camp we are in. God bless Billy Strings and all the others who raise the bar and keep it real.
Quite literally came from a poor and drug infested area that many in the Midwest can identify with. Unlike these rich dudes who wanted to be famous and put on some boots and moved to Nashville
I saw Billy and his band live in August and was blown away! Seriously one of the best shows I've seen in a very long time. It's like those 4 guys are controlled by the same brain.
Keeping Doc's legacy alive ,passing it on to a younger generation, much needed in a world filled with manufactured & corporate crap. All power to those fingers .peace to all!
Don't put this guy in the same category as Doc Watson ,There's no comparison to any of the greats ,Randy Scruggs and a whole lot of others he can't compete with get the F--k real
@@markstaggs7342 just came back to my post, what the fucks wrong with you ,keeping the spirit of this great musical genre is a wonderful thing, grow the FUCK UP!!!
It’s not country, but that’s cool… It’s a hybrid bluegrass, jam grass, jazz, and “traditional” folk, Americana, & blues in my opinion… I said to a number of folks years ago,; “this kid’s going to win a Grammy”, in a “society”as a THE MOST MINORITY of a subject/matter😂, that’s going to earn it in, what is today, “popular” music, as a musical segment… Congatulations Billy, on your 2020 Grammy!
I grew up listening to bluegrass, from the Stanley Brothers to New Grass Revival, and Billy Strings is the REAL DEAL. What a talent! I love his dad too.
Love listening and watching y’all pick shout out to jared walker on the mandolin glad to see your still killing it and doin wat you love brotha keep it up and if u happen to see this comment let me know next time y’all do a show close to home I’d love to be there .
When I was a kid. My brother and I would pitch a pup tent sleep in the yard and listen to the Newport Jazz festival. And the Folk Festivele. I remember listening to Loui Armstrong.
Just geereattt stuff! Fantastic! I've been playing guitar for 50 years, studied all kinds of music, and Bluegrass was the one musical artform that I couldn't keep up with. Just beautiful stuff.
