@@MetalTrenches I re-listened the re-recorded album from "Mors Principium Est.", and I will say that while mostly it was unnecessary, I would have never heard Valley of Sacrifice 1 & 2 without it. Off of "Finnish Metal Compilation" of all things, available here on RU-vid. I do thank the album for that, and both versions are awesome for different reasons to me. I bet the latter because I heard it first. Such a talented band, I hope to hear NEW stuff soon. I'm sure you will review it then! Edit: "Northern Breeze II" That title, lol.

Oh I absolutely agree with your ranking of Deceivers. I would have ranked it at perfect if only they fully committed to all the new ideas they begun incorporating in this album. However since they went half way in many of them than it simply couldn't be perfect, but fantastic is the next best thing and a perfect description for it. Moreover I think it finally begun building a foundation for the Alissa era of the band. War Eternal was a changing of the reigns type album, Will to Power was Alissa getting more comfortable with the rest of the band and the rest of the band with her. In Deceivers the band finally begun taking advantage of the unique elements that Alissa brings to the table over Angela while also started to minimize the aspects Alissa simply does worse than Angela. It's a great sign for the future of the band, as if they continue with this progression, just with a bit more confidence and brevity their next album absolutely has the potential to be absolutely perfect and rival Wages of Sin as their best album altogether, albeit in a very different style befitting their new lead vocalist.

Hey wanted to ask you if you have ever heard any of Gmork's Discography?? They aren't melodic death metal but felt I should as this in ur newest video. I'd say they are more Melodic Black Metal / Blackened Death Metal. But as someone with a very similar music background as you, and having recently fallen in love with this band I wanted to know what your take on Gmork is. And if you haven't really listened to them, at least would urge you to check out / start with their debut lp from 2011 Tales of the midnight forest. Death Spells Erotica their follow up is very good too. That being said have been anticipating a video like this for this year and it's here so time to start this video over and watch

The anticipation was high for the Halo Effect and it was met. When the vinyl arrives it's going on my wall next to (Clayman and Winters Gate). I'm going to be the contrarian here, I actually like the new Arch Enemy era. I've also never really delved into Soilwork as it wasn't really for me however that said the new album has some good to great tracks. Judging by the last 4 single drops In Flames might be up for a really good album next year (still not really melodeath). Nothing like some good competition from ex-band mates to get the creative juices flowing.

My favourite melodic death metal album for 2022 is easily Trumpets Blare in Blazing Glory by the Canadian band Grenadier. They play a style of "deathened heavy metal" filled with Running Wild-esque riffing that has only really been done previously by House of Atreus and the insanely controversial band Arghoslent (except without the lyrics that make Arghoslent so controversial--Grenadier's lyrics are a lot closer to someone like Bolt Thrower). Check it out if you are a fan of both of those groups--especially if you happen to be offended by the latter band's lyrical themes--and of groups that are more melodic DEATH METAL (and not glorified power metal that just happens to have growls in it) like Intestine Baalism, Dungeon Serpent, Draghkar, Mi'gauss and very early ATG and Amon Amarth, etc. I still like Soilwork, though. A huge R.I.P. to David Andersson.

I can’t hear this. The Great Heathen army was one of the best Amon Amarth albums I’ve gotten into in a hot minute. I think it has an underwhelming first presentation, but the riffs and hooks are sticky as hell as you get familiar with it. I think it’s a nice choice in a “darker but not less creative” direction from the more NWOBHM style stuff they were doing in the Jomsviking era.

Of the albums I've listened, I enjoyed Arch Enemy, Wolfheart and Soilwork the most while Amon Amarth left me cool. Like it wasn't awful, but not their best. Good to know I got a few more albums to go back and check. And speaking of Overgivenheten, I think it's main issue is that it's too bloated. 14 tracks and 65 minutes is too long. Trim the fat and make it a 9-10 track album around 40 minutes and I think it'd shine the better for it. Cause you're right, the first two tracks are a tremendous opening.
