+MalløryTheYoungbloodSkeletønKilljoy I highly recommend Batman: Year One which is the first superhero comic I read, The Killing Joke was my second. Both of those stories are amazing. You have to read Watchmen (it is a masterpiece), and Grant Morrison is my favourite writer of course so from his works I recommend All-Star Superman (this one has genuinely saved my life. If you read it you will see what I mean) and We3 (prepare to cry with this one, it is heart breaking and the art is incredible).

+Malløry Way Make sure to read every bit of Watchmen. There is prose between chapters and when I first read it as an angsty teen I ignored it but it really does enhance the experience. Once you are more well versed in comics check out Multiversity. Another Grant Morrison work and it really messes with your head. One of the issues within is claimed to be a haunted comic book (I think it really might be).

I've loved MCR and Gerard Way since I was in middle school. In the past 6 months, I've read All Star Superman, Flex Mentallo, New X Men, and Grant's Batman run, listened to the 4 hour Kevin Smith interview with Grant, and in general fallen in love with Grant Morrison. To see Gerard and Grant be close friends is shattering my psyche right now you guys

while people may think that he wasnt being very sensitive about it, i get what grant is saying from around 13 minutes onwards. young people are given all this doom and gloom, however subconsciously it may be, we're fed this doom, this dark, evil world and expect us to take it all, as well as the shit we get in our personal lives. they expect us to deal with this dark world without marking ourselves or letting it affect us., like the adults do. but we can't, because we haven't been taught how to take it. i dont know, it may just be me but he's making an honest statement about society and i relate to that so much. im so thankful for this interview.

The question was asked to Gerard at a dark point, when he was still feeling an immediate reaction to 9/11. I do not know you but I would assume that you, like most people now, have put distance between yourself and the event. You say that you did not have profound understanding after imagining, but for you this is purely an intellectual thing. An angry young man considered it from a new perspective and it shook his festering world-view. You are not in the same circumstance to have an epiphany.

Gerard Way got me into comics by making me realise that I didn't give a rats arse if they were for "nerdy boys", Alan Moore showed me that comics weren't only about Superheros saving the world, Neil Gaiman showed me what the art form could be at its best, and Grant Morrison helped me understand the origins of comics.

As a assistant inker I used to drop off pages to a Vertigo editor at DC on behalf of the books inker. Got me shit even though the editor knew I was helping keep the deadline. I now create my own design concepts for a art licensing agency who reps me.
