It's not actually insurance fraud just really stupid as the insurance company could have denied his second claim as he was driving a "unfit" vehicle plus the police could have given him a ticket for driving a "unfit" vehicle

@@TheSoldier02 technically the "melting" was cosmetic damage and not structural, so not actually unfit to drive, and not really an insurance write off. He would have been denied a claim for any further cosmetic damage however as they'd have said "we will no longer cover any cosmetic damage to this vehicle" as part of the initial settlement. The second accident inflicted structural damage that was significant enough to be deemed an actual insurance write off. At that point the vehicle would have been uninsurable, and unfit to drive had he tried to keep using it.

@@cgi2002 the drivability isnt really a factor with most insurance, its a matter of repair cost. when you buy car insurance, you arent paying to protect the drivability you are paying to protect the value. with most insurance, if something happens that affects the value, you can file a claim. of course, its not a good idea to do this for minor stuff because the number of claims will increase your premiums.

I think to commit fraud you still have to be aware of the fraudulent act. Because he clearly didn't know about this (even going so far as to post about it) it wouldn't really go far on court (with a good lawyer and depending on how the laws are written. I don't live in the US so I'm not 100% familiar with it).

@@becausereasons8507 well if the company didn't end the policy after the first time that's not fraud and simply fault of the company not him if he was still paying insurance on the car. Because I have seem in the passed cars get totaled out but are 100% usable as in the airbags went off because the tire popped yeah. It happened before. If everything functions and is legal for road use and you have insurance on it yes a car after being totaled can get it again or keep. It as in they don't care what the money gets used for.

@@jacobhargiss3839 Yeah... try and see if that logic holds up in court. The actual question is how the insurance company would let him keep that car on his policy. Once it's declared totaled, it's declared unfit to drive, thus unfit to be insured, thus he shouldn't have received a second payout on the same vehicle. Someone dropped the ball at that company.

@@Unownshipper not necessarily true. So long as a vehicle is road legal it can be insured. Basically, once he "bought it back" he is issued a certificate of salvage, he then needs to have any necessary repairs done to make it road legal and get it inspected, after that he gets a "rebuilt title" and the car is good to go again.

It must have been road worthy otherwise a cop would have definitely pulled him up at least once and booked him for it no way he could drive a half melted car around for a year and have no cops check if he had his roadworthy certificate.

Did you parks across from a building with mirrored windows? The sun will reflect off the windows and depending on the angles the window were set in, it'll act like a laser and focus them. It's really only dangerous to objects stranded in its path because it takes a long time for the heat to build up. You know like a building or a parked car.

I had a salvaged/rebuilt car once. Cost me about $1500 with repairs to get it on the road. One day I just barely hit a deer with it, like just cracked the grill and dented the hood. Got $1500 from the insurance company and got to keep the car. Later sold it for $1000! Got 60k miles and $1000 out of that one.

Lol this sort of happened to me. I parked on the road in my neighborhood. That night it poured but I was on a slight hill so no biggy. The next day I got in my car and it wouldn't start. I call my mom for a jump since she lived close and while I'm on the phone I realize my cup holders are full of water. Come to realize there was a good foot or more of water in my car during the storm. 2 other cars got closed and like 6 garages (all due to flash flooding plus a blocked storm drain). When I called my insurance about 4 people asked me why I drove into water and I just kept having to repeat that no I didn't drive it into water lol 🙃

For all the people claiming this is insurance fraud: it’s not because damage has occurred to more than 40% of the vehicle to include the interior it’s “totaled” and he can purchase it back as well as a certificate of salvage, after that he needs to prove that it can accomplish and abide all road laws in his state to receive a rebuilt title, if the car was able to maintain its drivability he could have it towed to a DMV and got it retitled by the end of the day, that’s assuming that the insurance company didn’t do it themselves (which most can) after that it is fully insurable at its rebuilt value or at a minimum: it’s scrap value, which would not have changed after either a crash or a melting
