Those faces are giving 80s vhs movie vibes. Anyone who grew up with those kind of movies regardless of generation has a memory of a nightmare fuel fever dream movie with something similar to those faces.
Shelby, these came out SO stinking cute!! They're definitely out of your comfort zone, but this is the perfect example of "trust the process".. they remind me of the vintage homemade pottery you find at antique shops.. but in the BEST way! 🥰😊
When i was a kid my mom worked at a ceramic shop and poured ceramics at home. Those pumpkins brought back a lot of memories, they had a whole line of different fruits/ vegetables with the faces and gloves. There were also ones where the gloves were separate from the body and attached with pipe cleaners, so you could pose the arms.
I think the biggest thing about being an artist is realizing that you need to make things that may not be exactly what you yourself would like, because there are definitely customers out there who do like those things. Working in retail, there would be clothing in the ugliest (to me) colors or prints or even styles and I would think that they would never sell, but they always did! I bet these little pumpkins with faces will fly off the shelves! 😊
Very true. However sometimes being an artist can be only doing things that are your cup of tea (specialized) and being a niche, then you attract a certain person to your work rather then trying to please everyone.
Clothing is quite different than pottery though 😅 it's easy to order different colored clothes to sell but when you have to make the piece yourself with your art style, it's a bit hard trying to fit someone else's style. I draw anime characters, I can't suddenly start drawing animals, if I tried to draw them in someone else's style they won't turn out great and even if I did try it in my style, it would most definitely not still turn out very good as i just do not enjoy drawing animals. Sometimes you've just gotta create the things you enjoy! I don't want to make art frustrating and less enjoyable struggling to learn a new art style just to please a few more people. Now if I enjoy the art style and want to learn it then ofc I'd work hard to add it to the stuff I sell!
tbh... yes and no, I guess it's definitely based on yourself aswell. If you just want to do what you like, I don't see the reason on why you need to do what others want, Thought of course if you want the profit and don't really mind it, I don't see why not aswell. I'm an artist myself but just not in this account
Your art has a very happy vibe, and it always brightens my day and reminds me of the brightness and playfulness and quirkiness of childhood! So thanks! It’s really impressive!
Those came out so cool!! That made them look so unique I can't wait to see what else you put it on. It's almost like a little explosion of color and personality!! Beautiful!! 😍💙
Do ever think that maybe the molds that haven’t been used yet just get so excited to become pottery pieces? If they did, I’d like to think that these pieces were so excited and then on top of that, they got fancy glaze! 🎃
The glazes look great. All your decorating is beautiful, color scheme's especially. I'm not into tie dye or anything like that but sometimes i think things like this are pretty. 😊Yeah the faces are a little humpy dumpty looking 🫤meh for that but you made them look there best anyway.
I'm so glad you tried those glazes - I've got one that I'm hesitant to try, but suddenly I'm very keen! Thanks for also mentioning that the crazing is part of the process with these glazes. ❤
Twenty odd years ago, when I was in high school, we had a few glazes called firecracker glaze. I used the "Christmas Red" on a large bowl. I didn't stir it enough, so there are areas where there is no red, but the firecracker effect was gorgeous, and it sang just like this.
this looks so fun I wish i could try so many different kinds of art why can't i have all the money in the world to just art, at least charcoal and drawing has always been relatively cheap or i would go insane.
