If it is just Epithelial tissue, for example in the mouth, how does Stratified squamous epithelium produce mucus? Are there goblet cells attached like in the Pseudo Stratified ciliated epithelium? Or is the mucus just saliva? Does it even produce mucus? if not, why is it called mucous membrane?
