Both of my grandmothers died when I was very young and I never got to know them. I imagine that this is what it is like to have a Southern grandmother. I love watching.

It's 2024 now. I want to try this recipe. I have frozen hashbrowns and cream of mushroom soup and all the ingredients. Love this version!

You bring back memories of my foster mother with her southern mannerisms. She was such a blessing to me, being 57 now, her love shown me has helped me become the woman I am now. Thank you

Thanks for the good laugh & smile. Years ago I was a teller and I can almost hear someone asking that. .. I just bought sour cream so I can prepare this at supper tomorrow night. Now I have to decide which meat to thaw out and cook with it.

Nice and easy dish. So many wonderful recipes. Thank You. Denomination. Lol. Funny story. 😂 I was raised Pentecostal. Baptized in the Nazarene church as a baby. Then went on to serve in ministry for years in a non denominational church. I taught Sunday school to 4 th graders. Led 3 healing homes that housed wayward people who suffered from many different situations. Then was on the praise and worship team. Intercessory prayer team. Met many international pastors in my day. Kenneth Copeland and his wife. Jan and Paul Crouch and many more. You will probably remember back in the day Kathryn Kuhlman my mom took me to a Bible study with her, and I was just a little baby, just a toddler and she leaned down and said this is a child of God who has great plans for her life. God is upon this child and will be with this baby guiding her through her life. What an honor to have that prophecy at such a young age. I’m blessed. I’m grateful for God in my life. He’s taken me through so much and without him I wouldn’t have the mind for Christ that I do now. ❤

I have made Schwartz potatoes dish for years, but I made your version for guests last night and we loved it. Adding the onions and sour cream and cheese took it to another level ❤️👍

I make almost the same recipe, however, (1) I make my own hash browns with a hand grater and then rinse them to remove some of the starchy liquid, then drain them thoroughly using a salad centrifuge (spinner,) (2) I use clarified butter instead of whole butter, (3) I grease the baking dish with clarified butter/olive oil prior to placing the mixture in the baking dish, so that the bottom browns while baking, and (4) at the end of the baking period, I switch the oven from baking to broiler and brown the top a little more. In either case, this is a great potato recipe. Thank you, Mrs. Leary.

Miss MeMe you remind me of my maternal grandmother. She taught me my love of cooking. She was a great southern cook and sio was my mother. I had a stool that I stood on and my grandmother would give me biscuit dough and I would play with it until is was black. Sha passed when I was 15 ancI never forgot the lessons learned by her side. Never change..you bring some sunshine every time I hear your cheerful voice and I hope I shine for Jesus the way that you do.

My family has it at Thanksgiving and Christmas. It’s so delicious. We use the cubed hash browns sometimes. Yours looks so delicious. Thanks for sharing.

If you want to make this recipe even better, add more diced onion, cheddar cheese condensed soup, and 2 eggs. It will be almost identical to cracker barrel's hash brown casserole 👍🏻

I learned how to make this in a Mennonite service mission program at 19. We used the frozen potatoes Obrien with diced peppers and onions in it and added cream of mushroom sour cream cheddar and a little salt and garlic powder delicious!

Plenty of butter, sour cream and cheese. I can hear my arteries slamming shut even now. 🤣

I have made these potatoes quite a few times. We always called them funeral potatoes. Sometimes we used the hash brown round potatoes instead of the shredded. I prefer the shredded sprouts. These are one of my favorites.

Oh my goodness! I made this with pepper Jack cheese instead of cheddar (cause that’s what I had). It was fantastic because it had just a little kick to it. ❤ thank you Meme!!

Love this casserole, I add cream cheese, broccoli, and meat to mine. Tonight I'm using smoked sausage, but have also used chicken or ham

You are a real gem and I wish I would have had a grandmother as wonderful as you! One of mine passed before I was born and the other was selfish and didn’t like kids. She lived an hour away and would cook occasionally when we were there for a visit and it would typically be good, but she focused on her self more than us grandkids and always bragged about the ones that lived 500 miles away that she never saw..... Yours are extremely blessed!

Myother in law always made these at Easter. For an added taste she also put crushed sour cream and onion chips on top. Mine never turned out as good as hers.

I make this along with an egg casserole for Christmas morning. I always put it together the night before and pop in the oven in the morning. I thaw the hashbrowns first

I love this casserole! I add more onion and cheese with Diced Ham and onion powder for extra flavor and a couple eggs. I let mine brown more on top. The 8 minutes you had left would probably browned it more. I always add salt to any recipe if it doesn't call for it even if there's salt in the indredients. I don't like bland foods. This is a great recipe to add whatever your liking is. Thank you Miss Meme... This made me hungry! Maybe tomorrow I'll make it for Sunday Dinner! I'm having Fried chicken so this will be perfect! 🙏🙏❤❤

I make this w buttered ritz on top. A little garlic powder & salt in the mixture. You’re right, it’s so good

My mom used to make this for me growing up, i still ask for it every thabksgiving and Christmas dinner! She always puts nonsweet cornflakes and butter on top for a delicious crunch!

That story was so funny!! Cute! Id probably have been like your daughter!! Lol. I've been trying to find a casserole recipe for several years that had been brought to my sister-in-law's funeral. It was so good,rich and creamy. But it didn't seem to be hash browns, certainly not chunky. I've never had one since,nor before.

We donadd the bacon. But every now and then we add steamed cauliflower. Yummy!!

I have a scalloped potato recipe I make that calls for a can of cream of mushroom soup and your choice of American or cheddar cheese plus a soup can of milk. One time I made it and thought it needed no additional salt as the soup and cheese already had it in their ingredients. Too bland; It definitely needed that tad of salt to make it super good. 😋

I have seen this called "Funeral Potatoes," because it is an easy dish to make and take to a bereaved family. Thanks for showing your version!

I love this! I do a version of this here up north. We get cold up here and I wanted this to be more then a side so I started adding cooked and shredded chicken and crumbled bacon into it and its amazing comfort food for cold nights.

I make a version of this exact recipe where the hash brown mixture is layered on top of ground beef and small pieces of broccoli.. It’s one of my favorite casseroles to make. We never have leftovers!

I Love your stories. The gift certificate story was priceless! We all know if you are Southern, you will be a good story teller. I think I'd like my casserole a bit crunchier on the top. I would have left it in the extra 8 minutes. I also think it would be delicious if you added diced ham into it. But that is just my personal taste, which is not for everyone. Enjoy the day!

I make that exact casserole but I use the cubed hash browns and definitely thaw them out completely.

Watching this video now and didn't hear if you said the bag of hashbrowns were frozen or fresh. I have found them in Simply Potatoes and also frozen so wanted to check.
