I recently discovered you on RU-vid. I purchased your cookbook as well. I grew up in the Deep South. All of these foods are foods of my childhood. I remember going to my Grandmas house and there was always a cast iron skillet and some corn bread with cracklings. Grandma always had a thing of bacon grease near the cook top. Grandma used the old fashioned pressure cookers a lot. She always had either a pot of beans, usually pinto, Lima, or black eyed peas. There was always a cake of some sort and cookies. These things were always there. Then she would add other stuff, fresh caught fried fish, fried or baked chicken, pork chops, country fried steak, meat loaf. Add in fresh tomatoes, spring onions, some veggies often squash or cabbage, and can’t forget the deviled eggs. These were things that filled her kitchen with smells and memories. Grandma made lots of other stuff too, potato salad, always had sweet tea, dessert style fruit salads, ham salad, red eye gravy. Most she just made from memory. Others She kept a little plastic index card holder with hand written recipes for baked goods. I knew how to cook these things as I always had an interest. Problem is I’ve moved away and although I know how to cook stuff like this, I’ve simply forgotten all the different recipes. If my grandmas recipe index hadn’t gotten lost, it would read the same as your cookbook. Today I’m home and making a dinner with your recipes. I feel like I’m at Grandmas house. Thank you ❤

Meme, I bought some 3 loaves of bread from Subway and made these a couple months ago for my grandkids. I love Wraps made with Chicken Strips, Bacon, Cheese, with Tomato and Mayonaise on them. I made the kids these sandwiches with the exact ingredients as you did and they loved them. I never thought of using Hotdog Buns and never knew there was a name for them! Lol. Your so Smart! Never seen a Southern grandma that couldn’t cook!! One of mine was absolutely the best!!!

Oh my goodness my husband would absolutely die for this! We are gearing up to watch our LSU Fighting Tigers from our home in Missouri. I'm class of 1982 and grew up with the campus in my backyard so I'm a diehard; Hubs is just a big, big fan. We always prepare special dishes before the game, and this one may just replace our "queso frito" dip! Geaux Tigers!!!

Back in the 50's and 60's, growing up, I had my favorite Aunt (pronounced Ain't) Minnie, who was, by my reckoning, probably in her 70's at the time. She was a certified hoot...dipping snuff...chawin' terbacky, and generally having a hootin' good time. One time, I guess I was about 12 or 13, she got my "boy band" a gig at a night spot (the Top Hat) where we dragged our trumpet, saxophone, trombone, and drums across town and played two or three songs before the "crowd". She was always full of life, taking no guff, and left me much too soon, before I really got to spend the quality time with her that I wish I could have. Your energy and inner spark remind me very much of her. Of course, I'm probably older now than she was then, but still, those childhood memories you are sparking - just makes me wistful and grateful for her and for you. Thank you, I'm a new sub and look forward to watching many more of your videos.

Meme, I was born in Anderson and then moved to Greenville when she was transferred by Southern Bell. I have lived in Greenville ever since. I have a granddaughter at Anderson College, and will be a Junior this year! I love watching your show. You are so entertaining and a great cook!

What a great idea. I’m in northern New England so we have more hockey than football but these would be great at our hockey games. Those top cut buns are all we use in New England, for hot dogs, and even our lobster rolls. You even get them loaded with fried clams or shrimp salad in some places.

Bird dogs…kind of like hot dogs 🙂. These remind me of something my mom used to make when we were kids. She’d slice hotdogs (the big fat ones) lengthwise - but not all the way through. Then she’d stuff them with with sliced sharp cheddar cheese and wrap them in bacon. Then broil them until the bacon was done. We loved them!
