" I don't even know how long she's been gone, it's like I've woken up in bed and she's not here, because she's gone to the bathroom or something. But somehow I just know she's never gonna come back to bed. If I could just reach over and touch her side of the bed, I'd know that it was cold, but I can't. I know I can't have her back. But I don't wanna wake up in the morning thinking she's still here. I lie here not knowing how long I've been alone. So how can I heal, how am I supposed to heal if I can't feel time?"
This track and these comments are just a few of the reasons Memento is still Nolans best film. It works on a much deeper level than his latest big budget action flicks and is perfectly executed. One of my fav movies of the 21st century.
What I love about this movie is it's almost like old literature. Mostly because of the scene in the bed where the main character talks out loud to himself and questions on how he can heal. It's kind of like how in Hamlet, Hamlet goes through so much self conflict and questions whats right and wrong.
...you can just feel the details... The bits and pieces you never bothered to put into words... And you can feel these extreme moments , even if you don't want to... You put these together, and you get the feel of a person... Enough to know how much you miss them... And how much you hate the person who took them away...
This movie's pretty incredible. It shows how unstable our own lives are, and how one accident could change the way that we live.. I really thought this was one of the best films every seen/created/produced/etc, and that it had a deep message behind it.
When someone feels loss they rely on the passage of time, the creation of new memories, relations they build after, to replace their loss. How can someone learn to "move on" so to speak if they are no longer capable of learning because they forget everything they learn?
Well, let's not trash Nolan for being able to please the mainstream as well. I personally liked Inception, it was like Memento, but it had stuff for people who don't like these kind of dark films, unlike us. Inception is like the "Happy Memento." A lot of Cartesian and Platonist philosophy in it as well.
I just want to say the Movie thumbnail in this video is a must watch or binge watch movie if you want to be a filmmaker. It's a Good story and very inspirational for aspiring filmmakers who want to pursue this carrer.
