This is so beautiful and comprehensive without being overwhelming!!! I wish I had chosen it. I would not have burdened ourselves with such a heavy work load 😕
See for me the art cards are just gorgeous. Even if we don't get deep into everything just a few conversations during the week about the art will be worth it, so gorgeous. We are an artist family so they get all kinds of art time in many forms but the formal classical art and being able to talk about it is important to me even though I don't feel we need so much time on it, they are naturals at art and science so I'm pretty comfortable with just 3Rs and a 6th fun day of exploration. My kids are all 5 yrs apart and honestly think from high school to preschool will love this material
Lamp in Deep Waters They sell bigger art cards that are intended for classrooms too, just in case you might like those better. I also just bought (but haven’t gotten yet) the Simply Charlotte Mason artist portfolios. Anyway, yes, even though it’s “second grade” it’s really suitable for any age, I agree. Music is music and art is art.
So excited for you guys as you journey through this. We are starting Kindergarten in the fall and we are super pumped. Thank you for your videos!!! They are so informative.
Corinne Walker Hi! Yes, the Patterns of Nature is by Rod and Staff and MP uses it. For math we are doing Saxon Math 2, but MP recommends Rod and Staff math. I bought the kit without the math because we already had math that was working for us. I have a flip through of the Saxon Math 2. I’ve never used Rod and Staff math 2, but I have used 1 & 3.
We have a day set aside for enrichment could this fit into 1 day? My thoughts are introduce on enrichment day and like for music we do introduction and then listen daily for the week and on enrichment day they talk about it and then get a new lesson... I'm not sure yet. I want to do unit studies .... for example.... enrichment day is introducing the material... composer and a song, artist and a work, poet and a poem, bible scripture, maybe science topic and something specific..... then all week take a break to talk about each work, recite poem and scripture, next week same author or creator but a new work.... so keep composer and poet and book in the bible but change the piece or scripture. I like idea of memorial press art cards and music but wonder if enrichment is for us or not. I want to spend a few weeks on each creator and do maybe 4-6 works each then change unit. I know there's resources for material online and I don't think I want such an intense review but like having information available as they discuss content and works they might be worth having everything compiled in one place as a resource. I'm still unsure how I'll do this as our core is 3Rs and we don't include arts or sciences unless its covered in our reading. So that's y I want just a taste of the arts and classics to pull all their literature together and our enrichment day is more like review and investigation and study day for anything that needs more study or we can pull out field guides and art projects. But we won't be doing this any other day of the week. 6 day school week so day 6 is our fun enrichment day of investigating and review with games and creating art and crafts from our reading.
Hi. Does the enrichment guide have the lesson plans in it? Did you purchase the lesson plans separately? Do you know what the literature guide has inside? Do you buy the individual literature guide and workbook vs. the literature guide that has 4 books on the cover? Thanks!
As far as literature, I'm not totally sure what you mean. In second grade, MP has different books with a different teacher guide for each book. You can also buy the lesson plans separately or they're in the main curriculum book.
@@EducationalRoots on Rainbow resource they sell the literature guide which has 4 pictures of each of the books for second grade on the cover but they also sell the teacher’s guide and student workbook separately. I think the literature guide breaks it into the days of the week, not sure but thanks for your reply. I am not following Memoria press for everything, just literature and phonics. They have so many guide and lesson plan books it gets to be a bit confusing. Thanks anyways! Your video was very helpful!
Yes! I was planning on doing a video of what the enrichment covers as far as history and science. It covers earth and space science, zoology, botany, etc. It also covers various aspects of American history. I really love it!
I use Memoria press as well. I have used it from k - 2nd. I do think thus far, Memoria Press is somewhat lacking in science. It does pick up exponentially in 3rd grade, at least in history. I add abeka history and we do apologia science one evening a week because my husband wants to be involved. I hope this helps.
Thank you so much for this post. It was so helpful! I'm not using the whole MP 2nd Grade Curriculum (so I won't have that Manual), but I was interested in the Enrichment to do with both my 2nd grader and Kindergartner. Do you think that would work? Also, MP doesn't list on their website all the books I need to buy along with the Enrichment Manual...and a customer service rep said I wouldn't need the Stories of Great Am for Little Am, Music Enrichment, or Patterns of Nature. But from your video, it looks like the Enrichment Guide references those, right? Also, do you think the Book of Crafts is worth the $17? Thanks.
That’s very strange they said that. I would definitely get Stories it Great Americans and Music Enrichment. We LOVE the music enrichment. You could get away with not getting Patterns of Nature though. They sell all the picture books together in a package, but I bought them off thrift books instead.
