Great photos, thanks for sharing. I worked in that Fine Fare shop while at school on Friday night and Saturday's, but it was called Tesco's.

The first cinema you showed just across the train crossing, my mum was manageress and my dad was the projectionist in 1970. It was the Esoldo then. We lived in Jasmond Road Highbury. I was 15. Thanks so much for sharing 😊

Wow. Your mum was my grans boss, (she was a usherette, back when movies had a interlude). I know it's over 50years ago now, but do you remember anyone going by the surname Gibbs ? ( My mum was 2 years older than you, and hung around the Esoldo often when her mum was working).

I'm afraid I dont remember the name, sorry about that. My mum's name was Edna and my dad's was Geoff. The managers around that time were Mr Hearn and then Mr Brown. The head projectionist was Chris Hughes who showed my dad the ropes in the projection room. I can't count the times I skipped school to see a film during my last year at Eastney Modern. Oops. ! Thanks so much for your reply. Take care my friend. 😊

5:07 Was this the little sweet shop, opposite The Odeon ? Saturday morning pictures was brilliant. Hours of films, serials, and cartoons, all for 6d downstairs, 9d upstairs. 6d for half a hot dog, or 1s for a whole one. 6d for a Zoom Ice Lolly. I remember the Dwarf that worked in that sweet shop.

Mmm. I regret that I am old enough to remember much of this, but I had forgotten about the Green Shield Stamp shop. Now i remember being in there with my mum as a nipper.
