I remember there being more guns back in the late 70's and early 80's. I remember the train was held up by robbers on horses. Am I recalling that correctly? I recall there being more street shows. But the things I recall the most are still around. Fire in the Hole, Flooded mine, The Mine restaurant, Brown's candy, taffy, the scents and smells of the park, fresh cut wood, cinnamon, Candy, Funnel cakes, hot tar, and that fresh Ozark mountain air! Lastly, our experiences there wouldn't have been the same without all of the great park associates. Most everyone looks as if they are having fun even on the hottest days.

I visited all the time as a kid through the 90's it was our vacation every year. I loved riding the green Tram lol parking at the C turnaround. I miss Tom swayers landing with the ropes tree house and ball pit, there was also a mini coaster. I remember the waterboggan I didn't list it for several years and was sad to se see it go. I remember geyser gulch being the new kids thing. Buzz saw falls! loved that coaster had a lot of issues but was a cool ride. My sister and I loved riding thunderation backwards! you also used to be able to walk behind the waterfall behind the Lumbarcamp restaurant. and of course the lost river (sigh) although it seems like it getting a major upgrade the old one will always be nostalgic we used to make that our last ride of the day (our mom was smart that way) we would ride over and over until the park was closing many times not even having to get off the ride for another go. that whole riverfront area is changing i have a picture of me about 3-4 with my dad stand on the water pump infant of the river. Such great memories! I also love the new additions and can't wait to try Time Traveler!

Adjacent to Tom Sawyer's landing there was the hideaway. (Huck Finn's Hideaway if I recall.) Behind Grandfather's Mansion. You entered a spiral staircase in the trunk of a hollow tree. A small rope bridge would give access to a treehouse like structure. Inside was a small maze. And stairs leading to another level. The windows had bb guns turned air blasters. You were able to shoot at clothing hanging just outside. Then there was a mix of stairs and slides that brought you to the ground level.

I never really ate there but loved the snacks. I always had to stop and watch them make peanut brittle to get a free sample. After taking the train ride you stop by the taffy shop for free samples too. Drinking a sarsaparilla was a definite must do. In the winter their hot chocolate is amazing. They use to have a kids area with a big rope climbing areas and a craft spot where you could hammer round leather pieces, I think it was free, and make a necklace with your name or initials. You could always hear the mallets banging the metal stamps into the leather lol That was so much fun!

The last time was there, was a year ago I noticed that the workers in the park have pulled away from the 1880's theme. You dont see them carrying there rifles and hoslted pistols as much. I think takes away from the experience. The train ride show is something I looked forward to and it has getting really bad, it needs to go back to the old script. We'll be there the 25th xant wait!!!!! Be going since I was kid 80's thur 90's. I remember the green trams.

I remember the Silver Dollar City Hotel , the train ride, the Treehouse(where everything was at a weird position or angle), the glassblowers, the Blacksmith shop, Oktoberfest, the Baldknobbers, the flooded mine, the various craftsmen, and maybe a couple rides and also the Mine Restaurant. I would go there with my family every summer in the late 70's and early 80's~ We would walk from the Winged Eagle cabins by Table Rock Lake to get there. I remember making my own candles, buying a gun that shot a cork (or something like that) out, and it was attached to a string so you couldn't lose it. I remember funnel cakes! The American Plunge Log Ride and the little scenes happening before the splash- especially a man's arm with a hat twirling around in a circle as he drowned. I loved the Fire in the Hole! I remember taking pictures of us pretending to be stuck in a pillory, and a noose. Last, I remember the train ride where we got held up by gun toting criminals. The people who worked there were always in character and did an amazing job taking everyone back to another time!

i spent most of my younger years at Silver Dollar city and always loved it. I had a lot of friends who worked there and really miss seeing them there. i have not been there for over two years now. i know thing must change but it has definitely gotten away from the " Memories worth making" and the you have a great past ahead of you feel. I miss the festivals like the craft festival where there were TONS of craftsmen for you to see and learn from, not so much now. The Street performers kept it going as the battles between the Hatfield and McCoy's and made it fun. Shad Heller was the "Mayor" of the city, after his passing Gene Bortner took over as the Ambassador but he is gone now too.

I am 52 years old and I vaguely remember going to Silver Dollar City and Mom and Dad parking and crossed the highway and going in a different entrance. I had family that lived in Kimberling City. I definitely remember the green trams in this 70s and 80s. The entrance was way different than it is now. And the parking lots ended right there at the front of Silver Dollar City when they moved the entrance to the side of the highway. There was not a stoplight at that t. And the workers would park across the Highway since the public Start parking in front of new ticket booth. Things weren't near as busy as they are now! It was nothing to cross the highway there without a stoplight.

I also remember the stage coach ride, it got held up too. I remember when they had log rolling and lumberjack games on the pond. The entrance to SDC was where the exit is now. They had cash registers lined up for you to pay to get in. I remember Tom Sawyers adventure river ride where the American plunge is now. They use to have a place where they hewed logs for building cabins. The diving bell ride was cool too, great place to get away from the heet. I can remember when the flooded mine had people dressed up and waiting to reach out for people in the boats. I also remember a time when an actor would walk around the group waiting to get into the sallon for the show, he sometimes performed card tricks to people waiting in line. I was born in 94 and went to Silver Dollar cit when I was about 11. The story behind the knife shot having to stop letting people test fire black powder guns came from concerns that someone would kill someone riding the wildfire, when it first came to be, that's what I heard years ago, it's probably true.

I remember the green trams. We started going in the late 70's, but I don't remember much until the early 80's. They used to have drinks for kids in refillable fruit shaped containers, a zip line for kids into sand and a treehouse playground that included balls to jump and slide into. I remember Dugan's Diving Bell and the playground for the kids while the parents waited in line. Thunderation used to ride one car forward and one car backwards until they figured out that shouldn't do that in the 90's. I remember the water toboggan and I loved the shootouts throughout the day in the square. I still love the park, but they do get further from the original theme every year. I've been waiting for them to update Fire in the Hole and now they are getting rid of it and capitalizing on the process. No one wants that ride to go away and it's something everyone in the family can ride together. I also hate all of the upgrades. It used to be a first come first serve park, but now you have to wait longer for almost everything because of the ways people with money can skip. Thanks for the video. 😊

Hi! My father was a citizen at the park in the 80's. He was Homer at the Flooded Mine. And he had Ozzie the Ozark Buzzard (puppet). He would perform in character while being a ride loader. Homer would often appear in the street shows at the square. And had a few bit parts in the show at the amphitheatre. I would often spend the day hanging out at the flooded mine. I would usually watch from where the ride operator is now seated. Back then the operator had a perch on a post to the side of the loading bay. There are many changes to the mine since then. Back then, something happened to the audio tracks. My father and another ride operator had to redo the voices for much of the ride. So for the longest time, many of the prisoners were voiced by my father. It sounds like some still are. The ride culminated in the illusion of the boats being filled with ore. They used a strobe light and foam rocks in a net that would fall toward the boat then quickly reset in the dark. The small room to the right as you walk into the show building was a smaller room then. It had a ghost being projected onto a bust rather than a talking portrait. As a teen I was briefly a citizen in 1999. I worked at a concession stand selling cookies near "dockside".

And they actually real tin types. I have a real one of my brother and i when I was about 14 and he was about four. Then they switch to paper I think. But then they got a new machine in basically just prints it on the piece of metal. It's not a real actual tin type

Over in Firemans Landing. They are in red boxes on posts. Themed to look like hose holders if I remember correct. Bring your own cords though. :)

SDC needs to get a few fuel rod stations

@@Disneysecretsaver I am going to politely disagree. I do not believe in the over priced fuel rod stations. Just plan ahead accordingly and you will be fine. Especially if SDC provides FREE charging stations. But I am thankful that you provided a difference of opinion. :)

@@diaryofaplantkiller I will start to agree with ya.... If they ever start charging to replace a empty with a full one. But, I have one and use them all over the USA. Mainly in airports... I love mine... Although I do have an external charger I sometimes bring... It's just larger than a simple fuel rod

Repent. The end is near. Jesus is the only way into Heaven. Repent & ask Him into your life. Cleanse you from ALL unrighteousness. Make Him your Lord & your Savior. One day, YOU will go to Heaven. Amen.

I remember Tom Sawyer Land and the petting zoo. The tree house and there was a huge playing area for kids where they could walk across really thick ropes to get from one house to the other. Can't remember the name but it was a Half Dollar Holler on steroids!! Super fun and good times!!
