When I was sixteen I won a great victory. I felt in that moment that I should live to be one hundred, now I know I shall not see thirty. None of us know our end really, or what hand will guide us there. A King may move a man, a father may claim a son. That man can also move himself. And only then does that man truly begin his own game. Remember that howsoever you are played, or by whom, your soul is in your keeping alone. Even though those who presume to play you be kings or men of power. When you stand before God, you cannot say "but I was told by others to do thus" or that "virtue was not convenient at the time." This will not suffice. Remember that. [Balian and King Baldwin IV]
while your point is true, i'd like to add another, back in the day there used to be leaders willing to die in battle just like the soldiers under them, and back in the day there were men who were brave enough and wise enough to take place of these leaders at the moment of crisis, nowadays the no. of men who are like this are dwindling. note my use of neutral language, i am all in favor of your opinion just wanted to add some of mine, hope you don't find this offensive
@@mksnavsystemI WOULD LIKE TO ADD ANOTHER POINT THAT'S BACK IN THOSE DAYS THEIR WERE ALSO LEADER WHO USED TO HIDE BEHIND THEIR TROOPS .A LEADER CAN ONLY BE CALLED A LEADER WHEN HE IS READY TO DIE FOE THEIR MEN . BACK IN THOSE DAYS MOST OF THE LEADERS USED TO HIDE.REMEMBER WHAT WE ARE WITNESSING ARE THE REAL LEADERS IN THE MOVIES NOT THOSE COWARDS WHO USED TO HIDE .
@@boubk7687 But your Prophet Muhammad did not fought in the front lines after he lost in Uhud and felt the fear of death: "It has been reported on the authority of Anas b. Malik that (when the enemy got the upper hand) on the day of the Battle of Uhud, the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) was left with only seven men from the ansar and two men from the Quraish. When the enemy advanced towards him and overwhelmed him, he said: Whoso turns them away from us will attain Paradise or will be my Companion in Paradise. A man from the Ansar came forward and fought (the enemy) until he was killed. The enemy advanced and overwhelmed him again and he repeated the words: Whoso turns them away, from us will attain Paradise or will be my Companion in Paradise. A man from the Arsar came forward and fought until he was killed. This state continued until the seven Ansar were killed (one after the other). Now, the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said to his two Companions: We have not done justice to our Companions." sunnah.com/muslim:1789
“Your soul is in your own keeping…When you stand before God you can not say I was told by others to do this or that virtue was not convenient… this will not suffice.” Is the most important message you should take away. If the gov is trying to force you to go to an unjust war will you go or choose to follow Gods will. I pray you all make the right decisions in life. I hope I see you in heaven. God bless
The statue of Baldwin King of Jérusalem is here in Brussels . I never paid attention before. Now I look at him on his horse and feel deep respect for this amazing King !
King Baldwin was a very impressive young man and ruler. Too bad Ridley Scott did not actually tell the real story that occurred then. It was better than what they made up. Someone should make a movie on King Baldwin. His full story should be told.
to my understanding the chronicles explaining this time in history was pretty accurate to the movie portrayal, except for the fact that sibylla did not have an affair with Balian's father was Barisan of Ibelin and not godfrey. the battles were historically accurate but the battle of of hattin which wasnt shown. and I believe I read somewhere that king baldwin did not wear a mask in real life but im uncertain about that. very interesting history
@@marco3273. That's not what I read. Ridley Scott changed a lot of what historically happened. Sibylla loved Guy and at one point Baldwin wanted to annul their marriage and both of them ran off. The movie gets that all wrong. Baldwin did wear a mask because his subjects became more distressed at seeing his leprosy as it progressed. Etc... There is a lot wrong with the movie. It's still a good movie but just historically inaccurate.
@@marco3273 I read some on Wikipedia. But I watched two documentaries on Baldwin. I don't recolllect them off the top of my head. I will look for them and tell you were you can find them. They went into detail about his life.

This man died of leprosy at 24 and had beaten the saracens several times since he took the throne at 15. Imagine what he could have achieved had he lived longer.
This edit really highlights the best aspects of the movie, shows how great it could have been. It wasn't very good but King Baldwin was easily the best part.
I just got what he said. If he didn’t get that great victory so young he may not be who he is. Because he’s going to die young. Most of us live 3 times as long and don’t do crap.
Imagine being 16 at some point in your life and the only memory is of a great battle leading men into combat then living/ surviving that bloody battle and to tell of it. 16 year olds today “I made a TikTok video with over a 10 k views! This is the greatest day ever!
