I'm a born and raised memphian ... Proud... There's a lot of great people in the city.... Along with great struggles.... Most within thy selves.... Sitting around poking fun at my city is not helping or encouraging anyone ... Why is there so much hatred in people heart..... Just as your city this day may be beautiful and economically stable the next year it could be considered rundown and poverty stricken.... Count your blessings and give hope to the ones that may have lost it... Kicking a man while he's down simply makes you a freaking coward... Gosh... Reach out your hand to pick up someone instead of pointing the finger laughing .... As I read the comments it reminds me why us as a nation we'll never be one... Anyone else from Memphis and see this comment .... Like ...
Uniquely_ _ Awkward Simply_ _ Beautiful I’m from south Memphis and i hear about how bad Memphis is as a city I just take it as they just mad cuz we as a city get our culture copied by other cities but never duplicated #facts
Never fails no matter what poor area in whatever state you're in this is the same environment. Poverty creates crime and crime creates poverty. Education and postive parental involvement is key.
@@arminiuszmazowszanin2670 Yep. Wokeness is much more important than teaching men and women the importance of adulthood ... and taking responsibility for their lives. You know, striving enlightenment.
Now it's just a mask and maybe a shit a shirt I meant (damned those spell checker thingeez) with covid-19 goin' around I guess just wearing a mask will do on casual Fridays(which is every day now like it should be even without covid-19 🌈🎸🌕🌟🤘✌️❤️🖖🙏
datboiwes333 lol finally we’ll get a face reveal. what if it’s just some suburban white guy with a camera around his neck a hawaiian button up shirt and some khaki capri pants with sandals on. just going on hood to hood tours like he’s on a family vacation
@@marriedtothegame4637 ngl I hate Shelby county with a passion, I lived here for 14 years so far, now Bartlett area is pretty good. Especially Arlington
I like the atmosphere down south..alot of wooded area and open space...and the people tend to enjoy themselves hanging out around the neighbirhood...i like that...up north nobody does that anymore...
Your videos make me very emotional, and some of them even brings tears from my eyes, especially the ones where there is a lot of abandoned, and vandalized homes, and I wonder who, and how many families lived in each one of those houses.👨👩👧👦👦👶😔🏠
Leo, does this mean you generally feel unsafe, or does it mean that there are places in town where "one does not go"? ( The places we are only able to see because Charlie kindly goes and films them for us?)
itsyoboy , bitch shut the fuck up , Chicago has over 3 million people there.. Memphis always been worse then Chicago per capital... if Memphis was the size of Chicago we’ll have over 1000 homicides easy...
Memphis is a huge city 500K is not a small city. Even 250K is considered a large city. It's actually bigger than Detroit in size, but Detroit has slightly more people. Memphis will probably surpass Detroit soon if Detroit's population keeps shrinking.
Timeless Goddess For real. All of my best friends are from Memphis. you don’t have to get on your knees for someone to treat you right, just a smile or a wave does the trick
Living in a place like this kinda can actually make people feel down, depressed, or even want to die (consciously and subconsciously too)... There has been different science studies of this.
Exactly..I don't care much for visiting there and I live in a crummy little town but Memphis is even more dark than this place..These people have deep generational issues that are NEVER going to be resolved..It is what it is.Smfh
frank 4434 boi stop donate you probably ain’t donate nothing. Its based on your income if you homeless one time donation when available $5-$10 bucks if you middle class $10-15 if you eating do the math
CharlieBo313 I know I seen em I’m good as far as Memphis I appreciate ya I got you on payday I don’t see a lot of other cats like the dude posting under my comment vying to support you but I’m a do my part when I can as I can
Lived here for 22 years. Those "heathens" aren't going to rob you. They're kids. And there's no unwritten rule saying you have to be in before dark. That's just being scared of something you totally fabricated
@Vivian Mahoney 😂that doesn't even SOUND true. So these little "heathens" are just casually carrying acid around thinking "Ooo I can't wait to find a mailman to throw this on!" Yeah, no
PrettieWeirdo 25 That’s why southern black neighborhoods > northern ones. Down here, we got trees, grass, bushes, everything. The houses are spaced out and so are the corner stores. It’s urban, but not so urban at the same time.
I'm from the east coast but I did work in memphis for a few months on their public housing cleaborn homes and a couple other spots and I can tell you it's not a game out there. Real friendly southern hospitality but man it's some gangsters out there (men and women lol). They proud of being on first 48 haha.
@Andrey V I live in the suburbs now inside a beautiful apartment. That is just where I grew up as a child and teenager. I be damn if I let my kids live over there but Memphis is crazy everywhere you go.
I'm a white girl (no racism intended) and I used to live in these "hoods" I now live in Olive Branch MS which is within walking distance to Memphis. I love Memphis and always will. Idgaf what color you are!! Black white green or purple we as Memphians stood strong as one. Memphis will Always be home
I love Memphis. When I worked for Memphis International Airport I delivered lost or delayed luggage to every area of the city, hotels, residence's businesses you name it I was there then I would go out of town for more deliveries when I was through I couldn't wait to get back here! Been in this city for 25 years now wow can't believe time sure flies by when you're having fun ✌️❤️🌟🤘🌈🖖🙏🎸🌟🐸
Last summer I went to Memphis, to visit, first time there since I left when I was 4 years old. So I went to visit now that I’m 20 , and I was born there so I wanted to know the place where I’m from, not lasted more than one week and got beated and robbed by six black guys, they took 600+ dollars on cash and they took my 2008 bmw. I was at the Walt mart located in Austin pey some shit like that, never got my car back, really got a bad impresión about my city , it hurts that is so damaged by gangs and poverty, not even Balley st is safe anymore
Thats my local walmart and trust me I am not surprised. I have seen so much shit go down over there it is crazy. If youre slick enough tho you can get yourself a pretty good self checkout discount if you know what I mean ;)
@@deeplyk506 Nope, not really. West Memphis gets the crime spill over from Memphis. Thugs and wannabe gangstas come to West so they can be big fish in a smaller pond. However, West Memphis has it's own home-grown crime, too.
IF WE GOT THE WORLD GETTING BUCK AND GANGSTA WALKING. I KNOW WE CAN BRING CLASS BACK TO OUR HOODS. FROM HOODS TO NEIGHBORHOODS. MEMPHIS STANDS FOR=MAKING EASY MOVES PEOPLE HAVE INTELLIGENT STYLE.
With grants for trade schools, Clean facilities in the neighborhood, with incentives for enrollment. Free classes at the library, for real job readiness. Not that bull the city is peddling. Health and wellness classes WITH incentives for enrollment.
@ Mr.President sir But what if the people don’t bite? Then what? Is it possible that first and foremost there’s something else that’s much more foundational and fundamental necessary to even spark interest in such a program? George Clinton says “free your mind and your ass will follow.” Seems to me he’s saying it’s the mind that must first be turned to make the ass follow. Otherwise, we’ll follow our asses. I think before and while the trades are being passed and handed out integrity should be instilled. What good is there in putting a suit and tie on a pig? Now people aren’t pigs, but until you turn their nature, their inner life, their inner man, they’ll just return to their slop. So that, short of that point, it’s business as usual. Nobody’s hiding opportunity from these people, they’re being denied it. Problem is, the people seem unwilling to demand it. And if still denied after making demands, they should take it by storm. But that presupposes a foundation and the structure built upon it that’s designed and geared towards successfully having demands met. The problem begins and is solved from the cradle up. And the time to start is yesterday.
I dont know, i live in a coastal city in Brazil. Here is really nice and calm. We have some crimes, but is low. Here we also have public healthcare, public education and free public classes with sports (like surfing, tennis, soccer, swiming pools etc) and martial arts for the citizens. If i was Mayor of Memphis, first i would knew more about the city and what people want. Maybe more security, with drones, cameras all over the most violent points. Real good public education, and professional education (teach professions to the students) to help the community. Open the schools to community with courses too. With voluntaries make sports free for the citizens. Use the public spaces for It. Give more oportunities to Younger. Here the Mayor employ the poor family and the students to work for the town. To take care of public buildings. And most important, If i have powers for this, implement a liquid democracy in the city. Give the people the power to decide in the community laws and remove me whatever the reason the people want to.
Aaawwwwweeeeee he turnt on my old street I grew up on... William street...larose elementary was the school I went to...all my friends lived in Fowler homes... Memphis in the 80s was beautiful in those times...it's so sad to see how much it has changed for the worse...but I'm hoping Memphis come back Beautiful and colorful with positive decent conservative residents again...i miss south Memphis....❤️🧡💐
8:23 I hope that kid is still all right. I'm also torn between hoping he doesn't lose that innocence, and hoping he learns not to be too friendly toward strangers without any adults around.
I lived there for 6 years. My ex husband grew up there. His family and my Mama and Daddy still live there. My parents are on the corner of Third St. and Horn Lake.
Thank You for this Video. Memphis is a very beautiful city and with out a shortage of Churches Churches are every where why then are "WE" living in a hell hole?.
Patricia Ruth Lewis cuz the European brainwashed you & i’s ancestors and forced Christianity religion on us and got ya thinking it’s our salvation when it’s not it’s the problem cuz it keeps us believing in hope in the sky when the hope we really got is each other
@@wilsongerard1077 What is title of one of Mr. Marvin Gaye 's most popular and prolific songs? Whats Going On right? well, it would seem that we don't need to ask YOU Mr. Wilson Gerard What's Going On cause you already KNOW!
Patricia Ruth Lewis damn skippy we truly all we got never been to Memphis but I Love Memphis for the fact it’s full of blacks who come from greatness like us all across the globe once the right information is brought to the attention of “the people” it’s a wrap hopefully the near future holds that & much love to Marvin for sharing his talents
itzsykez if this is true what you saying it is heart breaking to think of how black men in Memphis according to what you say are dealt with by over seers just like slave masters used to deal with slaves
We have 4 sections north Memphis, south Memphis, east Memphis, west Memphis. Each one have several neighbors hood inside them. Every 5 to 8 blocks you in a different neighborhood
1. You know we don't claim West Memphis lol. That's across the river in a whole different state. 2. North, South, and East is oversimplifying it. For instance, Raleigh is north, but when you say "north Memphis" people think Smoky City, New Chicago, etc. And Whitehaven is south, but it's not "south Memphis." The Orange Mound isn't really south or east. I could go on. 3. 5-8 blocks? Lol what neighborhoods you talking about?
DON'T BE FOOLED FOLKS.....THERE ARE DEFINITELY OTHER AREAS TO MEMPHIS THAN JUST THE "HOOD". WHY SOMEONE WOULD TRY TO DOWN TALK MEMPHIS WHEN MOST CITIES HAVE "HOODS"...GIVE ME A DAMN BREAK.
Between Time 11:55 to 12:00 you will see OG Gram SAM sitting on his white Benz while Nle Choppa and Smoke Purp shoot a music video on OG’s block .......... This Camera man just caught a historical moment without even knowing it!!!!!!
This looks a lot like the Caribbean. I live in Barbados, but this reminds me of St. Vincent where I was born. Lots of green. I feel home sick looking at Memphis Tennessee, America. Waw.
Why would anyone want to make a video or watch one of the old, run down areas in a big city when there are so many other really nice areas in the same city? Maybe the one recording only has friends who live in or around these areas? I don't know, but you can drive around all day in Memphis and not see areas like what's shown in this video. Memphis is a big city, and has lots more to see than what's shown here for sure!
@@forkssports4612 I said it seem like his Memphis hoods videos are only in South Memphis. I was born, raised, and lived in Memphis for 42 of my 45 years so I am well aware of South Memphis is a part of Memphis
I lived the majority of my life in Frayser and I spent plenty of time in South Memphis and Orange Mound. I moved here to Dallas in 2015. People talk about how "bad" some of the neighbourhoods in Dallas are. I just shake my head and smile.
