This really should be a no brainer for Memphis and Tulane. The PAC6 isnt a P4, but its a group of schools who actually care about athletics. They invest in facilities and NIL. They have decent stadiums and fan support. Memphis and Tulane can join a group of schools that have the common interest of competing at the highest level.
@pavankat
@pavankat День назад
yeah but is the revenue actually higher?
@MattBuild4
@MattBuild4 День назад
@@pavankat it likely would be. Low end 50% of B12 is still $8M per team more than what the AAC gives teams currently, and its likely the AAC contract decreases in value.

Heck, I'd be for changing the name back to Memphis State so we fit in better. PAC-whatever is better than sticking in the AAC with North Texas, Rice, and the service academies.
@pavankat
@pavankat День назад
@@clottadams5028 yeah the new pac can take on schools from any conference and win. the order probably goes Big Ten, SEC, Big !2, ACC, Pac 12, AAC. And if the ACC gets raided again, Pac 12 goes up a level.

San Diego State and Fresno State turned down the Big-12 for a reason! They obviously know something we don’t know. The Big-12 isn’t very attractive anymore without Texas and Oklahoma. Utah moves over from the PAC-12 and is suddenly the favorite in football. Fresno State is already competing in the Big-12 for equestrian, but nothing else. With the addition of Memphis and Tulane and maybe a couple of Texas teams, would make the new PAC-12 a great conference. Then watch the television revenue come rolling in.

Pac12 needs to invite the best from Mountain West and AAC in order to be ahead of them.
@jimmythelefty

Did you not watch the video? That's what they just did. They already got the best MWC brands to join. It's now OSU, Wazzu, Boise State, San Diego State, Fresno State, and Colorado State. The addition of Memphis and Tulane makes the PAC head and shoulders above the AAC, both in quality and media value.
@lastpme
@lastpme День назад
If this is true, they are gone and will be a part move for the PAC 12. Had they killed the Big 12 in 2021 they would still be a conference, it looks like they learned their lesson by taking out the MWC and AAC by taking their best brands.

John Calzano had a great interview with a local Memphis ESPN sportscaster today. Looks like USF is interested in coming now, if Memphis/Tulane go. And the AAC commissioner was here in memphis for the first time since he took over at the end of May. His words were not promising. Word around Memphis is they are most likely leaving. The AAC without Memphis/Tulane/USF is a joke. Look at the schools they've added. They are already at 16, with 12 of them being awful. Now Air Force and Wyoming could be added to the AAC as well. This has Memphis and Tulane looking to seriously leave.

Yes. Look at who is in the AAC and these schools. The AAC has 16 schools and are looking to add two more for sure from the MWC. Two AAC schools will leave for the PAC, that will be much better quality schools and not as many.
@joeykelly5642
@joeykelly5642 День назад
Well, the alternative is staying in a depleted AAC and receiving less money from their future TV contract. Maybe if they’re lucky, the ACC collapses and they find a spot in whatever comes next, but that could take a decade or more!
@drgat6953
@drgat6953 День назад
@joeykelly5642 while the teams the AAC added can't replace Houston, Cincinnati, and USF there is nothing saying that the new PAC will get a lot more. It is also possible that Memphis, USF, UTSA, and Tulane could demand unequal revenue sharing now or in the future.
@sdtsimonjela
@sdtsimonjela День назад
@drgat6953 I agree with you. There is no TV deal and everyone is acting like there is an 18 to 20 million dollar per year deal on the table from Turner, the CW, or Amazon. I keep hearing this "best of the rest" title automatically being given to pac-12 light and I don't understand why. The only program with any kind of college football dominance is Boise. San Diego St has has a great recent run in MBB. Colorado St made the last 2 March Madness tournaments. Even if they get Memphis and Tulane it's not blocking out other G5 conferences. Liberty would have gotten the G5 bid if the playoffs started last year. LIBERTY!!!!!! Even in the year's where the AAC dominated that NY6 bid schools had to go undefeated or have one loss to get that recognition. On the Basketball front Memphis hasn't been able to win the American or have a deep March Madness run. I think it's better to take the field of all these other G5 schools everyone keeps disrespecting with that take. It's much easier for a Liberty, JMU, UTSA, or another school to steal that bid in football and the gap is even smaller in men's basketball. Where all you need is a good coach and some juco or diamond in the rough talent to have a great season. . .and potentially a deep March madness run!

This would be great for Memphis & Tulane. My belief is that at the next media deal Stanford, Cal & UCLA (yes I believe this) will consider going back to the PAC 12 because the cost and aggravation of the travel might be too much.

This conference will be better than the acc and big12 and it will beat majority of the sec schools and big 10 the sec will have 4 teams worth something and only two that are actually a threat. Noone is talking about a new tv player.. ( TBS, TNT) and affiliate networks... they are very interested in college football... They will have 5-7 billion dollars available for sports programming.. the floor is... could they pick up newly formed pac 12..? Absolutely could they throw out 45-50 million a year easy.. absolutely.. still have 6 billion left over .. they are looking to make a splash in 2026.. would definitely change the landscape... Something to consider..

Do they stop at 8? Adding those two only brings you to 8. They probably do another expansion that brings Texas into the fold VIA UTSA + another and then you've got a decent 10 team league.v

If they cant get more depth in basketball (Gonzaga, Whichita State), then the PC should pursue the Nevada deal with UNLV and Nevada. Nevada is a weak option, but you pickup some inter-WAC long time rivalries with schools and theyve been decent at basketball as of late. UNLV is what you really want and their priority is again more basketball, but more importantly you pickup a flagship stadium (arguably better than literally any other conference) for the conference title games in football, and as a bonus UNLV seems to actually be investing in football now too.
@xfacta334
