Why should we? A lot of us don't have a family, never been married (or happily married). Why should we strive to make a ton of cash if it's just us alone? I'm fine having a normal income and living peacefully. Not my fault the economy is the way it is, or dating, or sexist family courts, etc. As long as the world is the way it is, miss me with all that bullshit.

33 year old college dropout here. Started learning hvac 4 years ago, no trade school, just working my way up from entry level building maintenance jobs. On track to make about 115k this year in dedicated hvac sales/service, in a low cost of living area. I was unemployed 4 years ago when I found out my fiance was pregnant. Today we have two babies and she stays at home taking care of them. For me the motivation to take care of my family has allowed me to rapidly level up and prosper. I work with two guys in their early twenties also making 6 figures with no college debt.

No girlfirends, no wives, no kids, no respect. No reasons.

This video frustrated me. They went to a bunch of PHD boomers instead of getting perspective from the very working class men that they're talking about. They failed to mention that men are choosing to avoid debt. We are seeing more and more students get degrees and work a job that doesn't relate to their Field of study.

I'm 33 and lost my job a few weeks ago. I have zero debt, paid off car, and a down payment in savings for a house I cannot afford. I haven't even looked once at jobs and am going to spend my time learning a new skill now to switch careers, and then eventually start my own business. Really enjoying this time off though. I never vacation or take time off so this is heaven for me. I'm single too so this time is peaceful for me and allowing me to really think over my life moving forward.

Man, I've been looking for a job since MARCH. Whoever is doing HR for these companies are just throwing out perfectly qualified people and not filling positions. I applied for one USAJOBS position and it had 23,400 applicants. The jobless numbers are a lie.

My husband has his BS from IU in Business and 15 years of exceptional work history. He is looking but unable to find a job making over $20 an hour, so he is just a stay at home dad and does some side hustles. It pains me to watch him go through this, he is smart and a very hard worker. Times are tough!!!

I 'retired' at 28. I'm 44 now, no job, living with parents, 5-figure credit card debt. I live off money earned from donating plasma. Everyone I grew up with is in a more 'normal' situation: married, kids, house, job, etc., so I'm not sure exactly why I'm like this. I can tell you that I learned a while back that relationships were not gonna happen for me (nevermind why), so there is no wife, family, kids, grandkids in my future. I also don't have any irl friends to spend money doing things with. I think this takes away motivation for a lot of men, and so this whole thing could be strongly correlated with the rising rates of loneliness. Just my 2 cents as someone who they are actually referencing in this video.

I've spent over a year looking for a relevant position in my late 20s. My employment is not anywhere near in my control like the narratives would imply or infer.

The key is to disassociate your job from your life.

I retired at 45 in 2017. A lot of men are retiring early. Stock market went up so fast, why would I continue to work, it makes no sense. I go fishing, golf, take cooking classes, take naps, etc.

I’m 36, my brother is 33. He is “depressed” can’t hold a job for more than a week, and live off my parents retirement money. Ya there’s men not working and there’s no excuse. Boomers are literally funding it

I was forced out of my tech Job last May and haven't been able to find anything to replace it. The job hunt has been rejection after rejection. I have an interview for a local company this week, but the pay may be very low from what i was at previous, but it is an entry back into the work force. Not to mention the toll this has taken on my mental health which has been a tough time too. There is no real support group for us men anymore. You don't get anything for working. I have a degree, I have a lot of money, and I can't keep a girlfriend. I could barely afford a house if I wanted to waste my money on that. The only reason I show up at this point is out of habit.

I'm pretty sure the reason men are not working today is the same reason I didn't work in my twenties. I was in my twenties during the early 2000s. I'm 45 now. What they are doing I think is trying to figure out who they are because the education system is decades behind and the internet is showing them that it's all false what we're learning in school. I had an advantage because I was very sick as a young child. In my first 5 years of my life, the TV pretty much raised me. Just like the internet is raising a lot of kids today. So they're getting more of their information or craving more of their time to use the internet rather than work. How they survive I guess is live with their parents or steal like I did and I did both. My dad didn't stay around too much. He couldn't put up with my way of life, but I was extremely determined to figure out, Who am I? They feel like they've been lied to all their life. There's lots of other reasons, but I've already made this comment long enough. I could write a book about it. I actually did through Jordan Peterson's writing program which I recommend. I wrote 500 pages on my past. When I got to the future though, I wrote nothing.

You can choose not to play the game but don’t be surprised when the government allows millions to come in who are willing to.

My wife once complained that I spent some money on something I enjoyed. I reminded her that every month we spend a bundle on our home. The home is all for her. If I wasn’t married, I wouldn’t be working either: I would be out backpacking. With women becoming boss babes, there are more single men. Men are much more content to live with nothing than women are. If men aren’t working hard to provide for a family, then what is the point?

As a mom of two kids who both have a chromosome triplication, I can attest for the absolute need for,these programs for the truly disabled, so I just wanted to stress that point. The needs in the severely disabled community are massive and heartbreaking. Sooooo, it’s imperative that the precious resources available go to where they are truly needed. It is also imperative that people don’t become so jaded by who and what they see at the grocery stores, etc. that they forget the absolute societal need for these programs for those that really need them.

Cost $250-300k to raise a kid in the US to age 18. Instead of having a kid when you're 20 you can put that same $15k/yr a kid would cost into a S&P 500 index fund for 18 years. When you're 38 you'd expect to have almost $700k. At age 45 it will have grown to $1.3 million. At 5% that would produce $5400/mo which is more than enough to live well in another country and have kids then. Cost much less to have kids in many other countries.

Today marks a year at my first job. I've never quit anything in my life. My parents haven't had a day off in months and that's where i get my hustle from. I'm 19 years old making $18.30 an hour, averaging 55hrs a week, with little to no OT. I live with my parents, & have zero financial obligations. My physical and mental health is deteriorating. It just isn't worth my time. I spend nothing because I see how many people lack financial literacy and discipline, making these hard times even harder. With that being said, i've only been able to save $15k in a year. I cannot fathom how people are surviving with children, car notes, mortgage and more...

This is how I look at it. Women for years didn't work and weren't in the labor force. Women wanted to take over. We men let them. Let us men step back and let women work and run things. Let them handle things while us men take a break.

I'm 26 and just left my job after 3 years. For me it was because I was working up to 122 hours in two weeks, and getting paid $16.70 as a heavy equipment operator for an agriculture business. I was working my ass off and not making enough to survive. Now I'm doing odd ball jobs until I land a job working on a ranch or working for myself. Something that pays more and gives me more freedom.

Worthwhile jobs with upward mobility and long term career potential, for native born American men especially, just simply isn't there really. More tradesmen are getting blanked work orders as well. People are broke. Not everyone can be in the trades either. Also it's not accurate that it's just "uneducated" men who have withdrawn. Quite the contrary, many men have advanced degrees and can't find any work in their fields either.

I did plumbing for 7 years, then i got injured outside of work( left hand smashed between steele and concrete) now im technicaly handicapt without disability, i do clean up work when the jobs come but i cant get anybody to hire me, so im learning quickbooks online with the goal makeing myself a bookkeeper, i will either make it or i wont!

Single men can live comfortably with just 1 job or a side gig. No need anything else.

As a female ex-military Navy,(10 yrs)been without a job and numerous low paying job blessed to have a great job now and I do work weekends to pay for my addiction (fostering animals). I like to work don’t always like what I do(retail on weekends) -and I agree watching ppl many many pay with EBT cards buying soda and chips. They should only be allowed to buy staple foods only period. This is the silent depression once that is all taken away what would happen?

Well, around here if you want a job, you've got one. College degree, high school diploma, drop out, there's jobs for all. With more education you have many more options and much higher wages of course. But nobody wants to come to the upper Midwest and I'll admit the region isn't for everyone. But if you can't find or make a job for yourself where you are, you move to where you can. That's always been what people with some ambition do.

Most of those men are probably being cared for by their parents, and when their parents die, they'll probably be eligible for benefits at that point.

Think about who takes the brunt of the problems if it goes well or not (men). A decent house is 350k, a regular car now is priced as a luxury car. If she doesn’t feel like being married she can march down to the court house with no consequence and say I’m not happy anymore and you were a bad parent or spouse for working so hard. Most men I know live very simplistic until marriage. I think men were so used to working so hard we put everything together for the family and it was simply taken advantage of. We’ve all seen men who have been railroaded in these family courts. I say men are just waking up to the reality of things.

My older brother is one of them. He is 56 now. He had a injury while working like 4 years ago. Right after the pandemic started. He had to have his toe amputated. It took like a year to get workmans comp for it. He also didn't work at all for many years before he had that job. He only had that job and worked for a month and the accident happened! He has managed to make money with the stock market day trading, and he lives very frugally. His GF works full time. His kids are all grown up so he doesn't worry about them. He makes it work, and lives a leisurely life. He has never been a worker. When he was younger he had a bunch of his own businesses like vending machine business, a DVD video duplication business etc. My other older brother was not employed for almost 4 years. He just did door dash and Uber Eats for almost 4 years, and worked as a DJ. He works full time now though.

Why? Because workers have lost a lot in wages and benefits over the years. There are no pensions, raises are hard to get, health benefits are expensive and cover less. In addition to the cost of daily life is going up. They don't see it as worth their effort anymore. Why is it mostly men backing out of the workforce? They will work under the table here and there to cover essentials. I know a lot of guys that live off girlfriends that work low wage jobs while getting assistance for their kids that the father is not listed on the birth certificates. They frequently make money selling drugs, doing mechanic work, landscaping. But it's all under the table. Also, a lot of companies have stopped training young workers. They wanted seasoned workers and never thought to invest in the future of their business such as plumbing, construction, electrical. They pushed that off onto community colleges and made the worker take on the risk of student loans. A lot of people don't want those loans because they see how predatory they are.

Intrinsic motivation to succeed is a lot more powerful than motivation from external sources. This needs societal changes in attitudes and not more government support/handouts.

There are quite a lot of gate keeping boomers that find younger men entering the trades as a threat to their bottom line as well. They will keep talent's wages as low as possible as long as possible to improve their profits. Thought I'd share, incase anyone listening gets hopefully optimistic they can make those figures in their first year. My suggestion is learning as much as possible in as many trades as possible. Then demanding what you want in self employment.

You can't make money in the long run working for a wage when money is inflating 10% a year. You're just slaving away while losing money. If the dating market were normal and we weren't in a hypergamous online hellscape then maybe men would do it anyways. What's the point of being a literal indentured servant if you can't even have a family? All this is nonsense. Overburden of local, state, and federal regulations and taxes is causing all this. Some years back I tried to pick up a small job operating a Bobcat and a backhoe; been on them all my life. The employer said great and asked if I was licensed? licensed? I operated these machines most of my life. He said it's a short stint in a " Trade School" give me a call when you get the certificate. I called the school and to get the certificate thinking it would be $500 but it was 30k for a 6 week program. What!!!!!!!? It was shorter to get my private pilots license back in the 80's at 40 hours. 30k for a $15 an hour job back 8 years ago made no sense. I'm sure it's way worse today.

I was just working at the FORD Bosk battery plant, im a union electrician, we were so short on labor they gave us a 160$ a day extra incentive Monday thru Friday and 200$ extra on Saturday and Sunday. Our scale was 41$ an hour with 8$ an hour towards insurance and 8$ an hour paid into retirement, 200k a year and we STILL couldnt fill the open job calls. This was over 15 months ago but there are still more brand new battery plants being built across the country that are now paying at Least a 100$ extra a day , 7 days a week. Go get it boys it is out there right now and id say within 2 years things are going to get really really slow when these battery plants are finished up. I hope not but i have been through 2 of these boom busts in 99, 2000 and 2007, 08 and it seems were at one of those peaks again

Personally I like working. It’s my job that took away my overtime so I work less now. I saved a lot of money with OT. My job is forcing me to go back to school because I’m hungry for more money. With OT I was happy and I did not need school and without OT now I need to get a education for some other blue collar trades that pay better without OT.

We work in the trades and have been looking for work and haven’t been able to find anything or any employer working to hire us. Blue collar/trade job workers are ending up in poverty, unhealthy, and homeless too. Some even have died. You are severely mistaken, JJ at best or lying at worst.
