Yuzu has such a great sense! He's modest, polite, sincere and caring for others. Always evaluating self properly! I think that's why fans like me love him, not just his skating, but his inspiring characters and personality

Wei Wei yes, his personality is always wonderful! I believe Yuzu is not just skating to win competitions or be best, he has his charitable cause to bring attention to his hometown / Tohoku Japan earthquake disaster area and its people thru his fame and performance. Did you know he donated most if not all of the money he got from his photobooks publishing straight back to the disaster cause? He is still very young but is a great philanthropist

I am always impressed by how Yuzu answers questions wisely, politely, and genuinely during press conference even he's so exhausted after the competition. And it's really amazing to see how he has improved his English listening! In most circumstances he can understand the question in English and only need the translator when answering for smoother rundown of the press conference :D He's such an inspiration, not only because of his talent and hard work on ice but also in other areas !

I know it's hard being an interpreter and I appreciate all their work, but I feel the Chinese interpreter didn't really do Boyang Jin's answers justice.

The Chinese translator was awful... Boyang Jin gave wise answers but when it reached her turn to speak, most of the info get mistranslated...

I know I am a year late but re-watching this press conference and as a person who can speak both Japanese and Chinese (plus English), I got the say the translations were not good. I can't tell if the Japanese and Chinese translators are pro. But overall Yuzu, Shoma, and Boyang all gave out very thoughtful and wise responses.

That's really a shame that they didn't make more of an effort. I've seen many Yuzu interviews that were English translated and captioned and they are brilliant. The work some of these guys put in for us to really get to know him is incredible. A labor of love. Poor Boyang's translator was horrible. It makes it really hard for the journalists to be interested.

She faked and didn't translate the words of athletes though (most of it were OK, but her grammar was weird at times). I've seen much better translators in the past.

OH, c'mon, it's either faithful or beautiful. Yuzuru and Shoma (Shoma more, but Yuzu had it's moments too) didn't make it easy for her either, using grammar that convey also emotions you cannot put into grammar in english. She also didn't translate any 'sou desune's or 'ano's and I think it's a good choice xD (and no 'what was the question again?' from Shoma xP) She put forward what they wanted to say, and Yuzuru could have corrected her, had he decided she's not conveying his words well- he understands English a lot more than he speaks it^^

I agree. She forgot to translate Yuzu's words of appreciation to the audience and how happy he was to skate at the venu, though.

I showed this to my translator friend and she was disappointed with this women's translation. She was more like a google-translator like but worse, skipping some of the words (そうですねとかどうでもいい）. I'm saying for the sake of the Japanese. THERE ARE BETTER TRANSLATORS.

+yukine nire I think this had to happen, although I'm still amazed at her ability to note quick enough to catch most of what he wanted to say (I have problem with writing down MY thoughts and speaking them in my first language, not to say translate them xD). That being said it's good that Yuzuru remember to keep repeating his appreciation at every single interview he had, so there was no chance that it wouldn't eventually be translated at one point (guess that's his way of making translator's work slightly easier, too-being repetitive means she could polish the phrasing a little bit the next time he repeated his statements... considerate!)

Yay! This 3 guys are lovely. I'm sad and hoping that someone of kind heart do the translation of this interviews so we can understand them properly. Anyway thanks to the people who volunteer to do it there. If ISU elbow hurts that much I think the other solution it's suggest to the federations/union etc. always have a bilingual person to help to translate.

To the people making fun of the 1-second mispronunciation of Yuzuru's name at the beginning: why are you so offended; is it really such a big thing? There are many languages out there with different sounds, I'm sure there are names that you find hard to pronounce as well which may seem obvious to the native speakers. On another note, great, humble answers from all of them, and congratulations :D

I dunno maybe she could have tried to get the champion's name right. I'm not particularly bothered by it but when I watched it, it did strike me how careless she was. I know there are foreign names that are difficult to pronounce but in this case it's literally just 1 vowel away and there are only a total of 3 syllables in the name. 3 vowels and they're all "U". Pretty straightforward, it's nothing complicated. She was just careless and should probably pay better attention next time.

I don't think the Chinese interpreter translated what Yuzuru said regarding who pushed technical boundary of quad jumps? He refered Boyang is the one showed it is real to jump a quad Lutz in the real program. I agree. Most men's skaters including Yuzuru, Javier and Patrick tried just a quad toe toop or a quad salcow before Boyang. Then from the 2015-2016 season Boyang showed his quad Lutz in his programs and everyone thought it was insane yet any kind of quads are possible, like Yuzuru said. Then Nathen accelerated athletic aspect of men's figure skating. Yuruzu is the one that perfected the skill of all kind of jumps including quads. I just wonder who will be the first one to jump all possible quads including a quad axel. Nathen?

Nathan Chen is practicing Quad Loop last I read - which means he'll probably have 5 type of quads by 2018 Olympics. Quad Axel is a bit outside of his reach considering his shaky Triple Axel.

I think Yuzuru will be the first one to land a 4A. I don't think the 4A is going to happen for Nathan considering that his 3A is not very secure. I'm actually a little worried for Nathan doing the 4Lo because it's supposed to put burden to the hips and we all know he's had hip surgery before. I really hope he takes good care of his body.

W.Lily あなた羽生アンチだよね？いつも羽生選手の動画にまで来てわざわざ意地悪いコメントをしているみたいだけど、宇野選手へは随分と心が広いんだね。羽生選手には重箱の隅をつつくような事ばかり言って来るくせに、宇野選手は記者会見中に居眠りしても何も言わないんだ。ゲームのやり過ぎで寝不足なのかしら？みっともない。宇野ファンは宇野選手の失敗や非常識な事や失礼な事は許せるし、いちいち大した事でもないのに全て可愛いで済ませるけど、その心の広さを羽生選手にも見せて欲しいものですね。

It think it is quite understandable, if you take into consideration their age difference. Shoma has grown up watching and admiring Yuzuru.

Uno said that his only motivation is to exceed Yuzu, Last Olympics, he exceeded Yuzu, he got second place while Yuzu got fourth place. It is because Yuzu's decision to challenge 4A in Olympics, instead he could have chosen other program to ensure him a medal. In the end of the day, yes, Uno reached his goal.
