Long time no see. Life caught up to me and I can't ever find time to edit these things anymore. I couldn't sleep tonight so gave this a crack.
Aftersun is one of my favourite movies of all time. I saw it twice on the big screen and broke down in tears both times. A beautiful and sad portrayal of the coming of age of a young girl, reminisced by her as a woman who turned the same age as her dad was when they both went on a vacation together.
This movie hit me so hard as someone with a complicated relationship with my parents. Just like The Lost Daughter, this film also showed the complexities and difficulties of parenting, especially if the parent is also struggling with their own mental health. Aftersun swept me away in its beauty, and I am better off because it exists.
I turn to Men I Trust often when I am sad, and these two went together well in my head.
As always, please take care of yourself. There's so much suffering in the world right now and I know how difficult it is to wrap our heads around it. But we all have to hope that there will be better times and till then, we have to resist and speak up for the oppressed and demand everyone to be given the same rights and dignity. We will be better off for it.
