As an Asian boy, wearing man skirts is a very normal thing, and they are known by different names such as sarong, kain pelikat, lungi, or kilts in Scotland. From my personal perspective, I believe that individuals should be free to wear whatever they feel comfortable in.

Skirts are only clothes, its society that needs to change. Men think they will turn girly if they wear skirts, but thats far from the truth. Women did not become masculine from wearing pants.

This talk and reading the comments is very inspirational. I wore a kilt out in public yesterday for the first time and most people could care less. I got quite a few smiles and winks. It built my confidence and as I was thinking about it, I discovered that the stigma in our head is far more judgmental than the reaction from the general public.

I live in the middle of nowhere Nevada in a very small town. I plan on wearing skirts in public as soon as I find some with pockets. Cis gender man who doesnt like most fabrics between my legs. not much of a fan of clothes in general but since society says I need to be dressed at least some what I will start wearing them soon. anyone who challenges my manhood should just look at my beard before claiming I want to change genders. Whilst I have always understood different clothing styles being favoured by each gender, I've never really understood why some garment types were ostensibly gender specific. Be it skirts and dresses or even trousers in some cultures it just feels odd to me. Society in my opinion would be far improved if people were encouraged to do whatever works for them as opposed to being encouraged to follow social norms
@yesplease6399

but are these different styles favoured by one gender because thats all they have known and have been told the latter is not for them? or is it naturally this way?

I think it’s because skirts and dresses expose the body to the elements, making the person vulnerable to everything around them. I think society prefers a strong figure who isn’t vulnerable, and the male gender has qualities that satisfy this (naturally men are tougher mentally and their bodies are stronger, for one thing). Women naturally don’t have these strengths (they are naturally more gentle and physically weaker, among other qualities of being feminine), and so exposing themselves to the elements doesn’t pose a problem. When I see a guy in a skirt I think “what a weak man. Who is going to be the strong gender now?” That’s my thought, if you didn’t have any ideas to put forth.

I am a man and I started to wear skirts about a year ago and lately I have increased the use of skirts in my case I just thing that clothes are a universal language we express our selves in many ways wearing clothes is one of those ways besides that skirts are so comfortable and fun to wear I hope the use of skirts and dresses by men will become something normal in the near future 😊

So do you wear skirts at work and while even going out casually?? Last year I kinda started wearing skirts and I still do but privately. As here the people in India are not that open minded to take in all this. But I love wearing dresses. I even wear and I think that's the time when I fall in love with myself more, when I kinda feel more safe and comfortable, when I like myself more and that feeling is just spectacular 😍😍✨❤️‍🔥

As a man myself I started wearing skirts and dresses a few years ago, but whenever I went out I presented as a female then overtime, I got tired of the process of looking like a female and getting hit on by guys in some cases. I worked up the confidence and nerve to just go out in my skirts and dresses presented as a guy and boy did that help out big-time. The preparation was gone and it was just easier and more relaxing as I was no longer getting hit on or having to worry about my safety at night. It was the best decision that I made for myself and my skirts and dresses are not loud as they're plain and simple, so they don't standout while in public. I haven't had any real problems up to this point except that I was addicted to doing it for a while. LOL!

wearing skirts should be normalised. I used to wear trousers all the time and my skin became horrible. I now wear skirts at home (skirts are essentially a towel with a waistband). my skin has cleared up and I am sure that is down to the extra air blowing about. Although I do think that for practicality reasons skirts should come with pockets and some bulge hiding feature, like a built in sporran/kangaroo pouch.

As an indian, the clothing you refer to is called the mundu, veshti or dhoti but it is not exactly a skirt. It has a masculine connotation. Whereas a ghagra, a “female” skirt, if work by a man would then be out of the norm.

I have to say I’m so glad that skirts with pockets are a thing these days. I tend to lean toward tennis and golf skirts and skorts for the pockets, many of which have one or even two back pockets. Call me traditional, but I like my wallet in my back pocket. Still though, it takes a really big sense of confidence to leave the house in a skirt, even 30 years after I first wore them, and that sucks. I shouldn’t feel unsafe or worried about offending someone for going out in public dressed the way I feel like. But then, no one should. Kudos, awesome talk! And love the skirt! Animal prints are somehow both edgy and classic.

I tried kilts as an entry point and got tired of people, strangers, mostly women, asking what I was wearing under my kilt, or other people, mostly men, turning on their best Scotty accent and asking what my clan was. None of it was offensive to me, but over time it's just tiresome. Then I tried a very straight flat skirt style, but I had to make those myself and that gets tedious, and people still called it a "kilt" for fear of offending me. Finally I decided to just get off-the-rack skirts marketed to women, and the finer fabrics, gathering, and other features like colours and prints made people unsure of what was happening and simultaneously aware that I was not trying to express that I was a female. That's the pivot point between male and female coding of skirts, and I see that our presenter is wearing a skirt with a pattern and colours not often sported by men on any attire. strange world.

A skirt is the lower part of a dress or gown, which covers the person from the waist down, or a separate outer garment that serves this purpose. The hem of skirts can vary depending on cultural conceptions of modesty and aesthetics, as well as a person's personal taste, which can be influenced by factors such as fashion and social context. Most skirts are stand-alone garments, but some skirt-like panels can be part of another garment, such as tights, shorts, and swimsuits. In the Western world, women typically wear skirts, with a few exceptions, such as the Izaar (worn by men in Islamic cultures), the Kilt (which is a traditional male garment in Scotland and Ireland, and sometimes in England, Wales and Northern Ireland) and the Fustanella (which is a traditional men's garment in Greece). Many fashion designers, such as Jean Paul Gaultier, Vivienne Westwood, Kenzo and Marc Jacobs, have shown men's skirts. Transgressing social codes, Gaultier frequently introduces the skirt into men's clothing collections, as a way of injecting novelty into men's outfits, the most famous being the sarong worn by David Beckham. Both men and women from many different cultures wear traditional skirts. In its simplest form, a skirt can be a draped garment made from a single piece of fabric (such as sarongs), but most skirts fit close to the body at the waist or hips and are fuller below, with the volume introduced by darts, brackets, pleats or panels. Modern skirts are usually made of light to medium weight fabrics, such as denim, jersey, worsted, or poplin. Skirts made of thin or clingy fabrics are often worn with slips so that the skirt material provides better coverage and for modesty.

It’s funny he mentions how ‘MEN’ are still in the position of power. In actuality men aren’t fully in that position anymore since women have gained a lot of traction getting the higher positions they have got today. SO, as men have learned to humble themselves to share equal levels with women then so should it reflect in the way we dress. Women are already there so the only ones aren’t are men. History is a good lesson teacher. Historically men of POWER, WEALTH and POSITION all have worn skirts and skirt like clothing. So the real question is; when are guys going to ditch the clone trooper suits?

"... You don't have pockets... You need to be careful on the bike.." Because he chose *that* type of skirt, which I find horrible on women too I am looking up skirts, they have pockets. Big ones too. The only kind of things he should have talked about was stuff like: "What about going to the bathroom?" I am considering wearing skirts for the summer to come, because of the heat and when I got to work with "short" trousers that did cover the knees, I got told that it would be better if I avoided doing that. And since the company I work at is all-in with inclusiveness, no discrimination policies.. I might put them to the test

Hi Steve, I do not consider myself a cross-dresser. But that is mainly because I do not buy into the premise: cross-dresser implies that certain clothes go to certain genders. The term implies a very binary way to view clothing, and confines people to wear only certain things. As I understand it, this is a term that was used some time ago when men would wear "women's" clothes, and maybe also the other way around even farther back when women wore "men's" clothes. In contemporary wester society, women have successfully broken down the barriers to appropriate "men's" clothing. But as I argue in the video, there has been less of a push from men to break down the barriers from the other side. My dream is to see a world where people can express themselves through their clothing, where others can allow this freedom to occur without judgement, and that this freedom can enhance peoples' happiness and ability to be fully themselves

So I'm a guy who wears skirts. I'm a widower, but I had a wife. I don't consider it cross dressing. They do make skirts designed for men. They have flys, and deep pockets, and are the same material as dress slacks. I also collect and wear kilts. Kilts are extremely masculine. They're also a way to honor my culture. I personally believe that cross dressing is an oxymoron. Clothes have no inherent gender, we assign genders to them. It's like saying a guitar is a men's guitar, it makes no sense.
