CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Carl (Cuba Gooding Jr.) must take 12 steps in heavy diving gear to prove that he is capable of performing his job despite losing one of his legs.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
This military drama is based on the true story of Carl Brashear, who was the first African-American to serve as a diver in the United States Navy. Brashear (played by Cuba Gooding Jr.) was born to a poor farming family in the deep South, and joined the Navy in hopes of bettering himself. When Brashear applies for diving school, he first encounters Master Chief Billy Sunday (Robert De Niro), a gruff and tyrannical diving instructor who holds absolute sway over his charges. Sunday does little at first to encourage Brashear's ambitions, and the would-be diver discovers racism in the military is an ugly fact of life when his white comrades refuse to share barracks with him. But Brashear's courage and determination make an impression on Sunday, and the two men become allies as Brashear must fight prejudice, military bureaucracy, and even a crippling injury in order to realize his dreams. Originally announced under the title Navy Diver, Men of Honor also features Hal Holbrook, David Keith, Michael Rapaport, Charlize Theron, and Powers Boothe; Bill Cosby served as an executive producer for the project.

My grandfather was a Navy diver during WW 1. He never spoke of it, not with scorn nor with brag. He was a man of honor who did a job until it was done. When he was discharged he went on to marry, make a living, and he died a gentleman at the age of 98. That was 21 years ago, and I still miss him every day. Rest In Peace, Woodfin Grady Kilgore.

@@shawnr888 Thank you. So few people honestly respect those who have served in the armed services, including our own government, who so frequently forget what they asked and received from these men and women who gave so much of themselves. Faint praise is damning indeed when these service personelle are in need and our government says 'prove it'. My grandfather earned his respect every day of his life. Thank you for noticing, and even more for saying so.

A Navy diver is not a fighting man. He’s a salvage expert! If it’s lost under water, he finds it. If it’s sunk, he brings it up. If it’s in the way, he moves it! If he’s lucky, he will die young 200 ft beneath the waves, for that is the closest he will ever get to being a hero! Hell, I don’t know why anybody would want to be Navy diver! Now you report to this line, Cookie!

She went down on a shallow reef, trapping me and six boys in the fire room. Only one way out. Flood the compartment and swim up. Five decks, cookie. Five fuckin' decks. Locked bulkheads, dead bodies everywhere. You got to have your balls screwed on tight for that swim. We still had intercom. Old MacArthur himself came over that squawk box, "Sunday, you cocky son of a bitch, I bet you can't hold your breath for four minutes and swim out ofthere." Know what I said back ? "No, Mac, I can't, but I'll bet you your cob pipe I can hold it for five, 'cause that's what it's gonna take, motherfucker. Favourite part

I remember, I have watched this movie back in 2000 on it's premiere night here in the philippines, and i remember that scene, when Cuba Gooding Jr was able to complete that 12 steps, everyone inside the theater was clapping, and some foreigners gave him a standing ovation, maybe them theirselves used to served to their country as well🥰👍❤️

Just watching this movie right now on t.v. I met Cuba Gooding junior in Vancouver, on the corner of Georgia and granville street, I asked him and his two friends if they wanted to buy weed, he smiled with the corner of his mouth like he does, and they gave me all their change....I didn't know who he was, but whenever theres a movie with him in it, I watch it. He was very sweet to me...Cuba- if yer out there- I love you!!

The 1st week of November marks my 33rd anniversary of my accident, the day that changed me life forever. With the knowledge of never again in my life would I walk, practice kung fu, run, or throw kicks at my best friends faces again (LOL) was a living nightmare. No one knows how hard it was to beat the odds. It took every ounce of my soul to take my very first steps since my accident. This morning i saw this clip, and yes i watched the movie, but this clip here was exactly what it was like making myself take the first 15 steps since the day of my accident. EXACTLY LIKE THIS....tears and all. BUT LIKE ROCKY BALBOA SAID TO THE ADRIAN "I DID IT!!!!!"

@Dustin Reid I said, the thing about peace is besides the point. Also not all of us get to be inspired with heroes, I’m not saying nobody has the “push” I’m sayin not nearly enough people have a will power like the man in this movie, and again I’m not saying people don’t have will power

Esse filme é inspiração para muitas pessoas. É um excelente filma, e lembro dos meus 18 anos onde servi na Brigada de Infantaria Paraquedista no Brasil. Estive no 26º BI PQDT 3º CIA.
